Yep 3 games to go the most they can get to is 11 pts.
Not sure if Mainand have automatic pro/rel or they make a decision as to which teams go where during the off-season. Uni 2nds (currently 1st in CCL) getting promoted would make the CPL have 4 first teams and 6 reserve teams.
Below is from the CPL regulations on Relegation. I do wonder whether Uni 2nds would be able to abide by the current Under 20 rules (Only 3 overage players allowed in SL Reserve teams) that apply for CPL as well?

Otherwise, there is also a decent chance that no CPL team gets promoted in the playoffs and then you have FC2011 (most likely), also needing to come down to CPL.

Aware its not confirmed if they finish above Burwood yet but is there any word/info on whether Waimak will contest promotion to the Southern League?
I would be very surprised if they weren't going for promotion. I believe Waimak have been focused on promotion for a few years now and out of all the CPL first teams, they are by far the best set up to handle the step up.

Will be interesting to see if the current Nelson Premiership leaders Blenheim Rangers will go for promotion too and then also will Mosgiel look for promotion after winning the Southern Premiership for the second year running or opt out as they did last year?

Waimak are 100% going for promotion, unsure as to whether Burwood are too, as I believe they're the only team that can mathematically catch them. (Pretty sure the earlier fixture in the season is to be replayed, meaning they have to play eachother twice)

I have heard Mosgiel are not going for promotion as they are losing a good core of this years team for next year.

Just on a side note, noticed that Gerard Brown is assisting Robbie at Bays CPL as well

Is that the old Parklands coach?

Thought that game was just announced to be finished 10 min early? One of the Burwood players broke his leg if I remember correctly. It's on MF website as being completed.

I think Mainland later decided that it would be replayed, but haven't updated it online.

Waimak then appealed this decision unsuccessfully.

You are correct in saying a Burwood player broke his leg.

Updated table:
Note: Mainland have confirmed that the Round 9 fixture between Burwood and Waimak - which ended early due to a serious injury to a Burwood player will be replayed on 7 September, table below reflects this.

Sorry but does no one seem to read the rules in this league? Cash Tech have been done for 2 games against Burwood and Parklands for fielding too many overage/first team players.

Nomads last season, United and now Tech this season

Ferrymead Bays have also been found to have breached eligibility rules in their Round 16 game against Selwyn so will post an updated table shortly.

Updated Table reflexing the above two posts so it will be either Waimak or Burwood claiming the CPL Title for the first time.

Believe that there are teams in all three qualifying leagues - Nelson Premier League, Canterbury Premier League and Southern Premiership that have indicated that they are interested in qualifying for the Southern League next season. So subject to clubs meeting the necessary licencing requirements looks like there will be Play-off's series to find out who will replaced relegated FC Twenty 11.
Makes things interesting!

It will most likely be Waimak from the Canterbury region, with Burwood needing a win and a draw in their two games against them to get promoted, with Waimak needing 2 draws or a win.

Anyone know much about the other two teams from Nelson and Dunedin?

Up north, Rangers won the league with Nelson Suburbs Reserves coming second and FC Nelson in third. Nelson Suburbs are ineligible for the Playoff Series, so its either Rangers or FC Nelson.

Down south, Mosgiel won the league, convincingly, with it being quite close for seconds place. Wanaka are currently second with 31 points, Northern on 29, last years runners-up Roslyn Wakari on 28 (the most unlikely team to come second) and in fourth Otago Uni on 27 with a game in hand. If Mosgiel are not nominating themselves, Wanaka are in the best position to come second, with a win against former Southern League side Green Island in Wanaka, making it not possible for Otago University to over-take them in their catch-up game, from being in the Chatham Cup, against Queenstown.

And here, its between Burwood and Waimak. Burwood would want to win the first game to be in the best position, with a draw or a win to seal it. Would also be interesting for three Ōtākaro members in the Southern League.

And good to know that there are teams wanting to be promoted, as FC Twenty 11 in for a third stint, wouldn't be pretty.

What happens from here? Is it a three team round robin between Ranger, Waimak and Mosgiel, and when should we expect a draw?

Waimak will play FC Nelson over two legs and the winner of that will play Wanaka over two legs

So it is FC Nelson over Rangers and Wanaka over Mosgiel?

Looking at last years draw, all 4 matches were played 1 after the other, starting on the 9 September with the final match being on 30 September. My guess for the start of the Canterbury playoff will be either the 7th or 14th of September.
