Women's Central League

It was a lovely calm evening at Te Whaea. An intriguing
top of the table clash in the Womens Central League
awaited between Marist and Wharfies. Three officials at
the top of their game mentally prepared for an epic encounter.
A purposeful Mohammed Safiq arrived in plenty of time.
Being a cheeky fella and having performed on the new
turf 400 times before, Mohammed took every advantage
of his extensive local knowledge and the high status of
the taxi industry by parking at the emergency entrance at
the top level of the turf. Only a locked gate stopped him
from parking right next to the surface.
The game commenced. A gripping match lived up to the
pre-match hype with counter-attack after counter-attack.
At around the 30 minute mark, the still air and crystal
clear night was broken by orange lights flooding the environment.
What the hell was going on?
An astute man, Mohammed scanned the environment.
His mind temporarily distracted away from his flawless
positioning. Whatever could have broken this mans concentration
levels?
He looked towards his beloved mint 2002 gleaming white
fireball. The car that had served him so well over the
years. It was clear, now more than ever, that Mohammed
had to return the favour.
A hulk of a vehicle with flashing orange lights was precariously
close to his own vehicle, a lion stalking its prey.
Mohammed could see an equally big hulk of a man tampering
with his baby, appearing to break its money-noobject,
state-of-the-art security system. A confident Mohammed
thought that surely this would prove no match
for a human.
Seven seconds later, the man was inside the car poking
and prodding away. Would this be classed as soiling the
taxi, Mohammed wondered aloud?
What would Mohammed do now? He was so near, but
yet so far away. He was a mere 50 metres from his car,
patrolling his line and the technical area. No man - or
woman - would pass...yet...he needed to stop this evasion
on his belongings.
Would Mohammed leave his post to protect and secure
his car or would he continue to protect the integrity of
the referee community by standing his ground. Of course
he would!
But clearly, Mohammed was getting nervous. The end of
the first half couldnt come quickly enough. The man was
starting to finish his work. Would he make it in time?
An urgent signal to referee Lane that there was no additional
time to be played surprised Lane but nevertheless,
he shaped to blow his whistle the customary three times.
Somewhere between the first and second blow, Mohammed
was off like a wounded cat. None of this protocol by
running to his referee, Mohammed sprinted at a fair clip
towards the changing rooms and after a few moments appeared
with a silver key ring. Another sprint saw him diagonally
across the turf, albeit with a slight diminishing of
his original pace.
Would he make his prized vehicle before the hulk of a man
had completed the hooking up exercise?
Alas...no.
The orange lights disappeared in the distance. His beloved
taxi and income following behind.
A dejected and somewhat grumpy Mohammed returned to
his position. The large crowd watching offered their caring
and kind words of comfort...yeah, right..but Mohammed
didnt seem in the mood for this cheerful banter.
The game continued. AR Safiq held his dignity and position
to the end.
A taxi ride home completed the evening.

I can just picture the sprint and the helpful comments from the spectators after.

he might as well have handed his flag to a kid on the sideline, or a blind spectator

EXECUTIVE PLATE SEMI FINALS:
Upper Hutt            3    Wellington united     0

Sarah Duffin scored TWO!!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

2 to the regular goalie isn't bad. Maria is under threat of being put in goal during next weekends game if she misses any more.

Just a "regular goalie" she'll be disappointed to read that....

Better than an irregular goalie?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Can anyone in the know confirm that there will now be a playoff between BNU and Lower Hutt for promo/relegation? First there was, then there wasn't (was going to be a 9 team league next season with BNU getting auto promotion), now it's back on. 1st leg tomorrow, 2nd leg next Saturday. Seems a bit late in the season for all this. What was the decision making process on this one? Were other clubs consulted? Was anyone consulted?

This is the first ive heard? As far as im aware they were awarded promotion after the weekend they beat Uni 6-0 (being so far ahead that they couldnt be caught). Gutted if theres a play off, although Id back our ladies to take it, theyre a good squad. Undefeated as well.

SUNDAY 19 SEPTEMBER:CENTRAL LEAGUE PLAY OFF:
Lower Hutt City      3    Brooklyn Northern     0
This is a bit of a shock, considering BNU were unbeaten and previously brushed aside a WCL side in the knock out trophy (Upper Hutt?). Its going to take something magic now...

yeah they have beaten 3 WCL teams this year. only losing to marist. I still think they can claw 3-0.

Eh? BNU beat Wellington Utd twice, first in the NZF KO Cup (2-0) and then (only just) in the Kelly Cup (1-0 AET), and they beat LH in the SF (2-0). But lost to Marist in Rd 1 of the KO Cup and the final of the Kelly Cup... So yes only lost to Marist, but didnt quite beat 3 WCL teams...

But should be a good game this weekend though!

yep. they were all unavailable due to work/personal commitments, alot of which were planned around their football. its a shame because if they knew earlier that they wouldve needed a play off to make central league im sure it wouldve been different. poor form from the powers that be who gave the late call that play off matches were needed.

between working, studying, planned travel, family, whatever else... some people have commitments. they were told before the season was over that they had won promotion, so come season end commitments were made outside of football. but hey, its how it is.

told by who? (and there were emails about this game over a month ago). Maybe LH were missing half their team. Maybe your players chose not to play because it was a dead rubber.

f**k i dont know, capital football? whoever calls the shots on central league football? at the start of 2010, 2011 was going to be an 11 team competition. and what goods an email going to do when students/parents have organised travel for the school holidays months in advance? this affected a few.
it was unfortunate timing, it was a largely second strength squad, end of story. they'l just need to do it right next year.

settle down lads its only womens football .  From what i heard half the girls from BNU wern't going to play central next year if they made it because of the commitment. probly a good thing because even if they had players missing they wouldn't have won with the amount of passion which they displayed today they didnt really look interested.

Feverish, perhaps posters should be told that you wear 4 hats in admin of womens football. You are Chairman of Warfies who have a WCL team, you personally coach/manage that team, you co-own the sponsor of WCL (Yellow Fever) and most importantly in the context of this debate, you are the club rep on the WCL Committee. This committee has a big say on everything to do with WCL and the decision to go  ahead with a play off (instead of a 9 team league) was based on a decision made by this committee. Disclosure and credibilty failure Feverish. My disclosure - I'm on the Wellington United committee and we have a WCL team. We are in favour of a 9 team league and we felt the final decision to have a playoff was wrong. We are still waiting for our Club rep on the WCL Committee to canvass our opinion and hold nil hope that he will ever do so.

rightstr, the women's season review was held on Thursday night at CF and this was discussed at length, (though only 4 of the 6 wgtn teams were there). WU was there and part of the conversation.

I'm glad to hear that meeting discussed things and from what i hear was very cordial. But you missed my point, which was about Feverish posting without disclosing his own role in the decision making process that took place before this week's meeting, and how he carries out his role as Club rep.

Feverish can run but can't hide. You set a great example for others to follow. Time to reveal your cards on the table or relinquish most of your roles? Conflicts of interest??

what do you want to know Ken? that I kind of like that new Justin Beiber song. I actually PMed that dude at the time explaining my interests.
The playoff was due to the vagaries of the Regs - nothing to do with me. Any possible league expansion is a separte issue

LMAO   I don't know what exposure you have in helping run any component of Womens football in this city (hopefully you do contribute) , but it needs all the good volunteers it can get.  Womens football can't afford ANY volunteers to reliquish roles...good grief...    There are so few needing to do so much, everywhere you turn there will be a conflict of interest at one stage or another....live with it.

I have recently been involved in compiling an Honours Board for a Central League Club and one of the columns is dedicated to Club Centurions who have played more than 100 CL games.
We have always had good records of mens football, but now that I have completed this, I am trying to find out if anyone has kept Central League appearance records for women.

The Central League (Womens) competition started in the mid 90's. Back then Lorraine Story was the Central League CEO and controlled womens football. I have not been able to track her down.
Can anyone help with the name of people who may have kept these league records
Jeremy Ruane has a great website for womens football, www.ultimatenzsoccer.com covering most aspects of womens football but not to this extent.
