Is that it? Hardly an announcement.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

This whole thing is a bit shit.

It won't let me submit my team selection and keeps deleting players from my selection.

I'm over this. Screw you all!

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Here's my team, I think.

THE BEST TEAM EVER (MAYBE)

Geez Michael Cockerill loves the kiwis

Goalkeeper: Glen Moss (New Zealand).
Defenders: Jerome Polenz (Germany), Patrick Gerhardt (Liberia), Patrick Zwaanswijk (Netherlands), Adama Traore (Cote d'Ivoire).
Midfielders: Mike McGlinchey (New Zealand), Shinji Ono (Japan), Thomas Broich (Germany).
Forwards: Alessandro del Piero (Italy), Besart Berisha (Albania), Youssouf Hersi (Netherlands).
Reserves: Mark Paston (New Zealand), Marco Rojas (New Zealand), Marcelo Carrusca (Argentina), Emile Heskey (England), Iaccopo la Rocca (Italy).

I'm a Mossy fan, but why wouldn't you pick Covic or Galekovic ahead of him.  And Paston as reserve????  Marco too?

No Australian's either. Maybe he misunderstood the concept?

Think he stated in the preamble to naming his lineup that he was choosing from the 46 imports in the league at the moment; hence two New Zealand keepers and no Australians.

Wont the Aussies be away at the Asian Cup or something during that time? So will need to be all Kiwis/Imports?

Would prefer Brockie over McBreen - but of course im going to say that. Hes better in that hes younger me thinks though

There are no Socceroo matches in July, only in June.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Pretty good team but Broich is better than most.

Not on this years form. Would be interesting to see how good he would be with a different bunch of players around him, I suspect him and Rojas would be great together.

He has class, which is what most players don't have.

Agree. Have you watched Tom Meets Zizou? It is fantastic, he is a great guy and the film really showcases that.

RW Marco Rojas: A great season under Ange Postecoglou. Fantastic in one-on-one situations, and has the vision to get in behind the defensive line. Has excelled under Ange's coaching, creates and scores goals. Just outstanding and always a threat.

Sadly he just isn't. Last night is a case in point.

Ross' team isn't bad but any team without Wee Mac playing is wrong.

Anyone know when phase 3 is announced?

fantastic in 1-1 situations where the keeper has been taken out of play by the pass should probably read...

Ange's tactics have given him and Thompson so many 1-1s that's why it seems to be his best. Been better running at defences, playing 1-2s.

Here's a question seeing how Marco is jetting overseas, but Wee Mac has tonnes of silverware- who is the better player between them? may make a thread for something to do...

Ha! Ha! Mike Cockerill is an Australian of NZ descent ! Was football reporter for the Christchurch Star newspaper back in the 1980's...
And then went to Sydney where he was football reporter for the Sydney Morning Herald for decades until recently.
Met him when he was back visiting family here in Christchurch, at a national league game a few years ago.
Hence his really good knowledge of football in NZ (and some natural bias in our favour still!!!)

I think the "All Stars" will be the "Also Rans" - no Bockie, Rojas, Sainsbury at least by the looks. Still whose going fo them anyway it's the other lot everyone wants to see.

Add in Ibini & Ryan possibly going overseas, Zwaanswijk retiring, Neill is unsigned.

You've seen that a few of the 'expert selection panel' have posted their picks for the team?

only one of them (Andy Harper) has picked Brockie at all, and even then only as a sub. Hell, only two of them picked Rojas, which is interesting.

[edited to fix a link]

19 May 13:19

That'll be because all the others know that neither Brockie nor Rojas will be anywhere near Australia on the day of the match.

that's a fair point; Han Berger said that he wasn't taking into account availability, but none of the others mentioned it so you're probably right.

Channel 7 has won the broadcasting rights for the All Stars game & Liverpool v Victory game. Gonna be some very grumpy Aussies now.

wow, can't believe the FFA would go near them on principal!

Why is that ?

They bought the TV rights for the NSL and showed them at obscure hours, so no one would watch it. They did this in order to gain favour with the AFL.

This was proven in a court case, in which an email from the one of the Chanel 7 executives was revealed:

"We have secured the soccer rights and suffocated the sport, much to the chagrin of its supporters (by giving AFL games preference)"

I feel like no one else is as aware of the fact the team is called the "FOXTEL A-League All-Stars".

Buts its not even on foxtel??

I really have no idea how this works???
