Isn't that favouring Victory on-field? Hopefully they can pull a huge upset.

Hume City gets all the profits from the game and must be getting a good hosting deal. A big croud could help fund them for a couple seasons.

[Edit: reports saying Hume will get $100k to play there, more if the croud goes over 20k]

One of the biggest names in world football will be playing for a suburban Melbourne football club in an FFA Cup semi-final pending the approval of documents from the Department of Immigration to free-up a visa-player spot.

National Premier League Victoria club Hume City, who will host A-League champions Melbourne Victory in a cup semi-final on October 28, are deep in negotiations to sign one of Ronaldinho, Arda Turan, David Trezeguet or Giorgios Karagounis as a guest player.

Ugh. Are they really that desperate for people to pay attention to this sham of a competition?

I dislike the way they rig the draw. There's no merit to a small amateur or semi-professional team making the semi-final if one of them has to make it. Make the draw either completely random or seeded, there is no point in having random small teams making the latter stages just to get pummeled by Melbourne City or whoever. If they're trying to imitate the FA Cup where every other year there seem to be upsets even late on, it needs to be natural, not artificial, for it to deserve any merit or have the "magic of the FA Cup".

I still have zero interest in this competition with its current format.

I'd kind of understand playing our home game in Australia if it were against an Local side, but considering we are against an A league side, we should be able to play our home game at home.

agreed. This would be a good chance to spread the brand in NZ and play a competitive match in a provincial centre

Also why do we always get the A-League sides? If we made a good go at it I'm sure we'd all get behind it.

I reckon it would be kinda cool actually having an Aussie club side outside of the A League come over for a game at Westpac.

it would be. But it'd also be impractical. Cost, players not having passports etc. I understand them not coming to NZ.

It is rigged that there will be 3 all A-League matches, so we only had a 40% chance of facing a NPL side. There is nothing stopping us facing one.

All they have to do is go to Christmas Island and get a free deportation back to NZ. Seems like the new craze over there.
