Signed a 2 week contract whilst Caira was away on Olyroos duty. Basically was a paid trial

More goals in 4 FFA Cup games than he has in 60 odd A League games. Prolific in the Cup!

Don't the victory have less than eleven players contracted?

FFA Cup Rnd of 16 kicks off tonight, sadly it doesn't appear to be on Sky TV this time around.

Sydney United v Heidelberg United

Adelaide v Victory

Moreton Bay v Gold Coast City

South Melbourne v Sorrento FC

Moreton Bay beat Gold Coast 3-0 on the weekend, denying the GC the title. So swap the GC for them in my tips (pay $3 at the TAB as well)

Okay, i'll play devils advocate here...

So why is Regan at fault here? He was entitled to challenge for the ball, got the ball first, turned his shoulder to avoid an out of control Austin who crashed into him.

This. Austin honking touch and kamikaze running is at fault.

Nope.

It looks to me as if he makes little effort of actually playing the ball and "drops" the shoulder. Austin was also fairly in control of the ball, or at least he made up ground fast and almost got to it first.

Ref obviously believed it was a 50/50 and let it go.

In the SMFC v Sorrento game, a Sorrento player picked up a second yellow card for diving. Turns out he snapped his achilles, that is why he went down. That is really unlucky.

That sucks!

Yellow card

He gets off it not being red by virtue that he gets the ball 1st and the other player had all the speed.

Key criteria is the player braces for the hit well before impact (kinda like rugby players do when putting in a hit) so it’s a knowing hit on the player and less so a play on the ball which is secondary. The fact he gets the ball is potentially more luck than skill. Contact is a heavy body hit and the raising of the shoulder/arm.

Some people will argue that it’s just being strong in the tackle. Go play league then.

Guess it says something about modern footballers that the Victory players charged to ref before anyone even checked on Austin. Vinnie was the first to check on him & got a face full of Berisha in return.

Is benefit giving to the attacking player normally? Say if Austin had looked up and also braced for impact.

Sydney FC vs Melbourne City on Sky Sports Pop Up (55) tonight at 9:30pm, the non TV game is Heidelberg vs Adelaide United.

Adelaide progress with a 3-0 win, Sydney with a 2-0 win.

If WSW win next week, the FFA might need to get out the hot & cold balls to avoid a Sydney Derby. The dates for the Semi Finals are either side of the first Sydney Derby of the A-League season. Kinda hard to sell tickets to the same game twice in a week.
