You’re right that nothing instills belief like results, or at least 90 minutes of good performance even if it ends in heroic defeat. And maybe it’s tempting for supporters to overestimate the impact we can have on the team because the alternative is to admit we’re watching powerlessly from the sidelines.
But I still think we have a part to play by getting behind the lads even at their lowest point, so if there was ever a time when they needed the support this has to be it.
While i agree to a point Simon at some stage we the fans need something more than just meaningless rhetoric from the players and management. It wears thin hearing the same BS from them both. Dont FKN talk about it SHOW us by your actions you have the same passion as your fans.

You only have to listen to Bev for 5 mins and realise why the women are a success. She comes from a winning culture...she has won stuff at a high level. She understands success and how to get it. The comparison with the Nix mens set up is like night and day. The mens setup completely lacks a winners culture.

Lack of winning culture kinda sums it up. You never get the feeling we're confident or tough mentally. The only time I felt we had that was under Rudan, and when he brought in Steven Taylor at the back. Seemed to lift the whole squad a bit in terms of belief. We need more players like that.

Im a big fan of what Sam brings to the team - but he wasn't the sharpest in his last two games so I think off the bench in this one would be ok - let him come on and terrorise the defence for 30 odd minutes.

The rules are the same as with the Nixers: no players with existing A-League contracts, including scholarships (ruling out Luka Vicelich who’d otherwise have been one of the first names on the list had he not recently been upgraded to a scholar), and no players who’ve already debuted in the ALM... which is unfortunate for James Mitchell and Ryan Mackay who in the past fortnight became the first two players to debut in the A-League for AFC after joining the club at the Reserve Team level. All the other youngsters we’ve seen thus far were signed as A-League scholars (Finn McKenlay, Jonty Bidois, Adama Coulibaly & Oliver Middleton).
Yep, Championship bound Tottenham Hotspuds may be coming back since their last tour downunder 12 years ago. In 1976 I saw them at the Basin Reserve and met a few of the players.

This is huge for footy in NZ, I really hope that any grudge between the Nix and AFC could be put aside to organise something like this for both teams. Still it's funny to joke that they are only getting a Championship team not an EPL team over.

Well they are calling it the 'New Zealand' International Football Festival - so you would expect that at least one of these other games being announced will take place somewhere other than Auckland - Otherwise surely it would just be the Auckland International Football Festival
Te Kaha an obvious venue to host a game(s), being all shiny and new, plus has a roof and the matches will be mid winter. But hopefully the Nix are also part of the 'Football Festival'.

I'm sure they havent forgotten but at the end of the day Wrexham were also involved in that decision. Brought a one off game to NZ after Australia. Depending on how long it took to sort all of that out AFC were unlikely to be considered.
Wrexham did appreciate the facilities available to them during their trip in their preseason.
Will be interesting what kind of squad they bring if they do get relegated as I'm sure there will be a lot of players in the limbo stage of being sold and some already being sold I could see them bringing over a very depleted young squad.

Also expect any player who was at the World Cup not to come, as they will need some sort of break from football.

"They are up there with the best with their history" is an extraordinary comment in that stuff story. They haven't won the league since 1961 (only twice in total). 14 clubs have won it more times. They haven't even won the FA Cup since 1991. Granted they did win the 2nd tier European trophy recently, but "up there with the best" is quite a statement. Inb4, fully aware my own team haven't won in a long time either etc.
Anyway cool to get a high profile team over here again. I can't imagine many notable players will be here with it being so soon after the World Cup, and the best ones will likely be in the process of leaving if they are relegated.

And in defense of Tottenham, they’ve been in the big 5 since the start of the PL. They’ve had players like Gazza, Lineker, Berbatov , Bale and Kane. And Son. They were in a Champions League final.
And most people think it’d be fun to see them relegated. And I think that part of that is an anger at the football oligarchy overall including the bizzaro worlds of Man U and Chelsea. Though the way they’ve dealt to Levy and then face planted is kinda funny. Feel sorry for young guys like Vicario and Van der Ven caught up in it. They were certainly charismatic at first under Ange.

Never thought I’d find myself putting in a good word for our Northern Nemesis, but after two AWs games surrounded by them I have to give them credit for putting club rivalry aside and the national team first - even when I admitted to having snuck into town from Wellington there was just a little bit of good-natured banter then we got back to supporting the same team.
A much better vibe than the Soccer Ashes where it did feel like having wandered into the Port, and evidence to the optimist in me that maybe we can occasionally work with them.
