Auckland Pride - Make Auckland Great Again

Ok start for the new club. Could have been worse with a dumb ass name and a gimmicky shirt like Real Miami. Solid traditional colours and name. If Foley wants to get his Black Knights in there  somewhere then it’s his business. The club is officially Auckland FC. Must say it’s exciting to have a second NZ ALeague side. Ten years ago if someone told me the Nix would be top of the table with a team of kiwi kids from their academy and there would be two NZ A league clubs I would never believed them. Maybe in another ten years we will have Canterbury FC in there as well.

Who are the young u20 NZ based kiwis they are going to pick up? Anyone in NZ age group sides to target? Aucklanders at Nix academy? The Croatian lad who scored on the weekend?

I was thinking about this the other day. The possibility exists if we are to be a feeder club, that Bournemouth sign a gun 18 or 19 year old South American, loan him to us for a year to get used to English, western culture, etc. that may be their plan for one of the posts

Weather not the same and more Spanish speakers in Bournemouth then all of NZ I'd say. They'd be better off sending that lad to Scotland.  That'll acclimatise him to the UK quicker then GodZone.

Foley has already said somewhere that kids like that signed for Bournemouth would likely be sent to Hibs on loan if they weren't getting game time at AFC - they did it already but the Bournemouth player got injured and returned without playing. Auckland more likely to get kids being signed by Hibs on loan

Great interview with Dale on Radio NZ about the arrrrival of AFC. Link on the news page.
Nice finishing comment about the choice of colours being black and blue because that's how they'll look after we've finished with them!

Bet they wished they had a major sponsor to announce as well......

Becker (CEO) and Corica were on the AM Show this morning, Becker said he was 'a bit dusty from last night', but did mention they were now about to go and look for sponsors, which does indicate they don't have a major one lined up, although you'd have to imagine some discussions have been going on.

Although as a sponsor it would be difficult to put your name to something without a name, colours etc, but in saying that though, you'd assume those discussions most likely would have disclosed names, signings, colours etc, all with an NDA.

Wonder if AFC had their sh*t together and have their kits for sale tomorrow? It might be a Nix game but it's the first big chance to sell themselves to the locals.

Maybe that's Foley's long term plan, turn AFC into ACFC by taking them over (ACFC has a better badge too IMHO).

This has been said, but the Nix don't have a home kit - they've got two kits and they play 50% of their time in each.

If you don't think a predominantly black kit is Phoenix colours, this was our first home kit:

Because I have nothing better to do, I took the logo and simplified the many thin lines to make it better pop, quickly. I did zero research if it looks eventually like and existing other club one. But I can see the black night shield and helmet grill. AFC is much bolder and the gold looks good on the black and in smaller size.

To me it now reads like it is the head of a gundam/robot mech. I dont know why. I dont think that's a bad thing either. I'd drop the 2024 as I don't think it's working and the AFC is bold enough it doesn't need the extra bit at the bottom for balance.

Agree. The ‘2024’ is the week point in the design. I did not want to go to far away from their original. AFC could be animated, like  👀 looking out of the helmet.

1] Nice top, right shade of Blue.
2] I wonder what their "Away" top will look like?
3] Auckland FC is a decent enough name. Better than Black Knights.
4] That badge is straight off any EA Sports FIFA game, when you create your own club. It is a generic design. Quite horrible imho.
5] How long will Auckland fans take to change their "Fan Name"? Because I can't see themselves being referred as "Dark Knights". Either Liquorice straps or Condoms.
6] Right now various groups are trying to set up FB pages for them. That's good to see, they'll whittle down to popularity.
7] I'm curious to know what they might call their hard core zone. The Black Fever? Or something original? I hope the latter. The Castle? Where all the Dark Knights live?
8] They are up and running and I wish them well, having seen the last 2 attempts fail. However, Nix through and through and I hope we smash them on the field. I will watch their games as I watch as many A League games as I can. I hate watching Premier League, I'd rather watch football played with passion and fans are passionate about.

Man, the AFC facebook groups are getting *nasty*. Like, absolutely vicious towards the Nix. Like thinking it looks bad for US that we got 18K in their city. And to top it off they're also yelling about us "not allowing people to sit in their allocated seats". They have no fudgein' clue about active support, they will no doubt sit there and chant "BLACK KNIGHTS *clap* *clap* *clap*" and bring back all the anti-Nix shark we remember from the ACFC Knitting Circle.

No, I think their crest has a lot more going on than those templates. Visor, harbour bridge etc probably hoping to add a couple of gold stars for A League Premierships

I was getting at this is where they probably made their design. A basic shape and then you can add in. Their badge was probably designed on and Xbox Series X.

Are they wanting to bring effigies of Harold from Neighbours to burn at a game like the early Fever forums wanted to do? Admittedly I wasn't around for the very early Fever forums and it looks like you were, I'm sure there was a lot of cringe if you were to look back at it today.

I think if someone makes a forum for them that would be a good idea... I think Foley should fund something like that? Facebook is only really used these days by absolute pieces of work, a forum would have a more moderate tone if it became popular

I hope the rumoured Left-wing/anti-fascist AFC fan group get off the ground as an alternative to these slobs. There is a *particular* type of Aucklander (overrepresented in local government, lol) who combines big-city arrogance with small-town bullying, conformism and hatred of the different.
