The badge preview looks pretty slick, from what I've seen. Looks to be something reflecting the Hyderabad logo from the ISL?

Looks like plain stripes on the AKL shield and not lettering. Which is lame. I guess we will see in a couple days.

I think the word "City" is definitely in the name ala Melbourne and Manchester.

With black and/or knights also highly probable.

In the posted image 2024 can be made out on the shield and club colours are definitely blue and white halves ala Blackburn or Racing of Argentina.

I think they'll shy away from the use of "City" as that's too tightly connected with City Football Group, which is essentially what Foley is trying to do on his own.

What do you mean by using ‘City’ as obviously they won’t call it Auckland City

I still think the stripes are just stripes on a shield, but could they be lines on a grill?

Probably because no official announcement has been made.

Good signing though. Would've thought he might've been a decent target for an actual overseas (not to NZ lol) club come seasons end. Can see that being a good play to try get the Auckland Fijian community involved with the club from the outset.

For what it's worth, I have heard that NZ U20 international Aaryan Raj is likely to be picked up on a scholarship contract with the Auckland side. So keep an eye out for that when signings are being announced.

And finally, Doug Kors has been taking in some pre season stuff between some of the Northern League clubs. But that's probably not too much of a surprise given he'll be trying to build an understanding of the talent pool in that northern region.

And yes at least 3 of their rumoured early signings in Cameron Howieson (Auckland City FC) Francis De Vries (Eastern Suburbs AFC) and Luis Toomey (Eastern Suburbs AFC) are playing Northern League football. Could end up being a few more, if yes just kids on scholarship deals. Wouldn't surprise if Michael Woud is currently training at a NRFL club as well.

Talk about North Harbour Stadium being redesigned to a rectangular 8-10k seater stadium. They have 33 million in the budget but I wonder if the new Auckland club would come to the party and invest in it?

From what I read the womens team & Academy are targets for next season (2025/26).

So expect some work on the Academy to start sometime 2025, maybe even late this year if the hope to have an Academy team(s) in the 2025 NRFL winter leagues, like Weenix do.

Complicated I imagine by Albany/NHS being their training base for the moment, and being a long way from Mt Smart. No doubt a shark load to still work through as they setup the club.

North harbour is just a disastrous location. Annoying to get to for most of auckland (nobody wants to get the bus) Would be best for everyone if they just sell it and it gets turned into apartments

Yeah, on reflection this is absolutely correct - and that scares the shark out of me. Nobody wants this imagery

edit: has Foley actually commented on the negative connotations that the Knights nickname holds in New Zealand?

Plenty of people want to get the bus. The Northern Busway is packed and they're adding more stations. No-one wants to walk for 20 minutes to get to the stadium, that's a kicker. And apart from the stadium, the surrounding playing fields and facilities are nice.

Yes. Interview with AV in the Herald Nov 25. FOLEY said he "wasn't wedded" to any name at that stage, and was aware of previous Knights name and dire history & that this knowledge would " enter his calculations" in arriving at the new name.

This chico loves following NZ futbol. Where is Noah Karunaratne these days?

I don't choose one but I put an eleven of players from the National League that I could consider for the new Auckland team or that could participate in the A-League

Those who are left out and I would also add are Lobo (LI), Gillion (Ex), Karunaratne (Ex), Colloty (Dc) o Tracey (Po)

Bit depressing that only 2 of these 6 names aren't complete rubbish, and even then they aren't great.

As per that older interview where he said something about how the name was simultaneously classic but spoke to a 'global piece' or something you would think Black Knights FC or AFC Black Knights.

'AFC Black Knights' the most offensive really. 50% Bournemouth, 50% some American college military football team, and 0% akl.

Had a quick look online with the NZ Intellectual Property Office.

A lot of pending Black Knight Football Club trademarks waiting in the wings...

Whether this helps or if indeed it is just a placeholder, well I guess we'll find out in about 17 hours eh?

I would have preferred AFC Auckland, that way you can say AFC and everyone in the league knows which team you're talking about.

I'm 99% sure it'll be Auckland FC or FC Auckland

AFC Black Knights is probably the best of a pretty uninspiring list of names. No problem. Many of us are old enough to have supported the Kingz with a 'z' at the end of their name. Few things rival that for cringe, so we'll be fine.

Anyone know what time we can expect the announcement?

No z at the end would probably be the best outcome. I always cringe when I see that
