Disgraceful way to treat travelling fans can imagine the Aussie fans being well pissed if they do the same to them. Kidding themselves if they think thats going to do anything to the atmosphere.

maybe an email to Eden park event organisers who probably had something to do with set allocation for grups.

Most areas available have limited seating left.

Always said they should have played the first derby in Auckland at Eden Park. Mt Smart too small.

But in the bigger picture, great news for the health of NZ football that a 25,000 seater stadium is going to sell out for an A League match between 2 Kiwi teams.
Won't go unnoticed by Australian football and the local rugby heavy media

They might just want to gauge fan interest before going to a 50k seat stadium. Would be a bad look if Eden park was only partially sold out than Mt Smart being mostly sold out. Even if attendance is the same the empty seats would really stand out and give us a bad look.

Think people are getting ahead of themselves. Whole sections haven't even been opened up.

And it looks like of those that are open for sale, it looks like lots of seats have been held back. I say that because there are a bunch of whole rows that are available while the next row back/forward are unavailable. That's quite a different pattern than what you see at Sky.

Some interesting comments in the article, about Reid's development journey as a young player in Denmark.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/football/auckland-fc/winston-reid-all-whites-legend-plans-to-help-auckland-fc-develop-hometown-heroes/HNNFARAPYBCGLADSSS43YXNLIE/

“It’s about getting prepared physically and mentally,” says Reid. “Footballing wise, what kids need, they need to be pressured every single day. When I was growing up I wasn’t amazing. I was okay, but I wasn’t by any means the best – but [at 16] I went into a programme training up to three times a day.”

There was a 6am session before school, then an evening session and sometimes a lunchtime element.

“It sounds hard but you get used to it,” says Reid. “Prior to that, I was training two or three times a week. Now it was 10 or 12. But it’s not like they are flogging you for three hours, it’s specific work, an hour here, an hour there but all those hours add up at the end of the year and physically the older you get the more you are able to handle.”

A major turning point came halfway through that year, when a group of young African players arrived in Denmark to train at the same academy, creating intense competition.

“They were the same age but physically, they were way more ready than we were,” says Reid of the group, who were mostly Nigerian. “They were stronger, fitter, faster. So that meant every single day, you were never able to relax, the development that we got at that age was vital. There are different pathways you can go on but that helped me immensely. Without that experience I wouldn’t have gone on to where I played.”

Believe mt smart only holds 23,000 not 25k.

They used to fiddle the numbers to abide by NRL regulations for finals, but the place sits 23k

Interesting. I saw one of The Port saying where they will stand as a fan group is actually 'temporary seating'. So yeah maybe is that temporary seating area that takes it to 25K??

More from the Herald article on Winnie Reid.

Reid had followed the news about a potential new Auckland A League franchise, then got more insight from Brown, when he visited the All Birds’ entrepreneur in the USA. Now it is a reality, with the inaugural match on October 19 against Brisbane, after a 10-month hustle to build a club from the ground up, assemble a squad, hire key staff and find commercial partners. That rush means the first season won’t be straightforward – on or off the pitch – but Reid expects the long term payoffs to be immense, something that could help change the sport. It’s a huge fillip for players – who can live and breathe professional football in their city – but it doesn’t end there.

“How amazing it is for a parent,” says Reid. “If you are driving your kids to football three or four times a week, you have a pathway on your doorstep, where there is a carrot at the end of it. Trust me, I know, we have kids as well, there are loads of hours that go into it. That will be the great bit, especially for Kiwis, there is something at the end of the tunnel they can work towards. You need that for providing hope and opportunities and it is all down to providing structure and the young kids have people they can look up to. Not only in New Zealand but in the [Pacific] region.”

Think there is a lot of temporary seating there already but that’s part of the 23k. On the stand at the end is basically scaffolding- on the ACC they call it cave’s creek- their words not mine.

The whole stadium needs a facelift but that’s unlikely to happen with Rain Brown

Damn! Just read that Sergio Ramos has signed with an Égyptien club. He would have been a cool marque for AFC. Saw him play last season and he is still in tremendous shape. Would have been a beast in the A League.

TIL about the Cave Creek disaster.

Honestly, that's about right. I felt fairly horrible on them and worse to get to your seat you have to walk under the scaff, which leaks spilled beer from above.

The guy from Athletico Nacional!

They've tried to keep it under wraps as much as possible, but yes I've been told it's Neyder Moreno. Different source from the usual, but still comes a well respected footballing figure in this country so I'll go with it.

Haven't seen the usual rumour mill flying around on this one, so I'm cautious about it. Guess we'll find out about it soon enough. 🤷‍♂️

**Edit, appears that Neyder Moreno will not be announced this evening**

A guy from The Port says it is the same guy. Unless he's just reading your posts YH.

Interesting for me as I've spent a bit of time in Medellin and went to 2 big Athletico Nacional games there. Saying the atmosphere is something else is an understatement.

Suspect he will wonder what all the fuss is about with the Nix v AFC derbies. Will seems a bit tame for him, no fans openly snorting coke on the terraces, away section not ringed by riot police.

I mean I don't think I've lead anyone too far astray thus far, so it's a distinct possibility that they have been reading along happily in the background. 🫣

Half a Pint
Auckland FC to play a behind closed doors friendly against the Malaysian National team on Friday.

Mentioned in this article here: https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/350443124/phoenix-returnee-marco-rojas-doubt-round-one-auckland-fc-waiting-final-signing

Crikey they will be well prepared for the AWs, arriving in Auckland that early.

I see their National League went on a break after 29th September. Plus the AWs match is the only game they have this window. Might as well go down to Welly and play the Nix midweek as well.

Still works both ways. Paulsen, Pijnaker, Smith, Howieson & Rogerson all getting an early look at Malaysia. Bazeley likely snuck into NHS as well for a gander.

Yes misread the initial post as played (as in last Friday), when it is to play (this Friday).

While you there AV, are you aware if NZF have investigated the AWs eligibity status of striker Lee Ho-jae?  Currently with Pohang Steelers in Sth Korea.

Piney on the football fever pod saying Auckland's final visa signing is a South American, and a few moments later saying it is a Colombian attacking midfielder.

I don't have a name, but surely someone is able to do some digging?

I've done my heavy lifting for now. 😅
Neyder Moreno is a free agent Colombian attacking midfielder.

Andrew Voerman's article confirms it is him. This tweet suggest that it is a 1 season deal.
