Auckland FC have removed the post from the socials + website. Ahaha.

The Port wrote a letter to AFC.

I’m enjoying them continually shooting themselves in the foot by showing their true colours.

IMG_7435.jpeg 61.27 KB

No room for mothers and daughters in Bay 22.
Plenty of room for all genders in Bay 25 with T-AFC :D

Seriously though, this is the "lad's club" vibe I've always got off The Port
Jesus wept. This makes it look even worse. If they'd just *edited it* to "parents and kids" with apologies for the sexism, that would have been fine.

The term "parents" is not very inclusive to caregivers and other diverse family units. What would T-AFC think?

I don't think you can criticise them too hard for just taking it down and being more cautious.

It was a poorly thought through letter by someone at The Port.

I imagine the staff at Auckland FC are rather busy this week, dealing with all manner of issues, logistical problems and media commitments approaching their first ever game. Quick learnings as you go, starting a club from scratch.

Yes you could excuse them amongst that chaos, saying we will just park that for the moment and deal with it properly later.

As martinb has said, Brown was approached by Durante, presumably on behalf of the club, about whether he could invest/sponsor the nix somehow, back when Durante was still with us (and back when Allbirds were a bigger deal, they've fallen a long way since then). He told Durante it wasn't the right time. Perhaps Welnix were after sponsorship money instead of selling a share of the club. I don't know if owning a stake in the Phoenix at that point would have been an attractive proposition, as a loss-making enterprise & before the academy was bearing as much fruit as it is today.

Bill foley net worth $1.6 billion.
Rob Morrison net worth $40.3 million.

Bill's net worth is 39.7x that of Rob's.
Where do you get $40 million from? This is $600 million by itself: https://infratil.com/news/sph-notice-robert-william-bentley-morrison/sph-notice-robert-william-bentley-morrison/

Which is a mixture of shares owned directly by Rob and a few trusts that he's the trustee of.

Googled net worth. Maybe I misread the data, apologies.
this article states it as $450 million, which is still 3.5x smaller than Bill.
https://wellington.live/robert-morrison/
its not about who's got more money, it's just that WelNix aren't the paupers people think they are. There was an assumption that Brown could have invested in the nix if he wanted to as WelNix are so hard up, but Brown himself said that they weren't interested in new investment. It would be great to get some new capital in, but it seems like we have the luxury of owners who arent desperate for it.

The amount of pain the owners would have been through with clearing up Terrys mess, metrics and covid, you would forgive them once they turned the corner not to let others in

Does anyone have a transcript or screenshot of the full letter from the Port to AFC?

I missed it before it was taken down and am just curious as to what it said as a whole

Someone aligned with The Port informs me that it wasn't pulled down due to the sexism, but because it was a private letter to be read out by Corica in the dressing room. Which... well, they don't get the problem.

Honestly comes across like they did intend for it to be posted, they just realised it's problematic and they're too proud to admit any wrong doing...... doesn't really matter no ones gonna really care by tomorrow

Don’t think Dura was official. Just two mates hanging out and Dura said what we were thinking!

I’m going to call distraction on the Port letter. Remember we had no women’s team and used to chant ‘she fell over’ at opposition for years. It’s a learning curve, but they’re just trying to fire up their team. It’s a mistake, but not a crime imo.

Fired up for the football. Will be interesting to see how the Kiwi Auckland FC players go and how much game time they actually get. Corica not known for his knowledge and interest in NZ until recently.

Farkn Rogerson goal a ripper and hopefully there’s plenty of highlights like that this season, including getting that stadium at Springs most of the way built.

And little bit annoyed with the RNZ guy who covered the football right at the end of a sports roundup this morning. Didn’t mention the Nix.

Mentioned the Malaysia game had happened. Then mentioned Auckland FC and focused on crowds and how the Warriors sold out the stadium, and he was hoping AFC could too. Basically implying anything less would be a failure and that he’d be happy to say that next week.

No mention of the derby coming up, which is likely to be the biggest game of football in NZ since the Bahrain game.

No introduction to the players to watch such as Sakai or Rogerson or Paulsen.

Really pleased Sakai has been named captain.
An anecdote from Marseille. When Covid was ravaging through Marseille about sixty restaurants banded together and decided to provide free hot meals for all the nurses and doctors who were working incredibly long hours fighting to keep people alive.
Obviously providing free meals is a costly undertaking and they relied on donations. Someone anonymously was frequently giving significant amounts. Later on it turned out this person was Sakai.
Top bloke! Really pleased he has decided to finish his great career playing in Aotearoa.

Dont think any team can claim a particular chant they are all modified from something. Not uncommon for the same words to be used and just the players name inserted

Ha ha ha, Jesus wept. They really are trying to destroy our little group, aren't they. They've keep sending infiltrators in to "report" on us and not let us have a little bit of private conversation.

I wasn't aware that there was any copyright on chants, and most of the others are lifted from Portland Timbers and Dulwich Hamlet. So fudgein' sue me. It's a week out and most of the others are completely new to fandom. I'm trying to start something from scratch (because the people who started T-AFC went on holiday for the first two home games, lol)

Looks like it's time for...

POWER RANKINGS: AUCKLAND FC SUPPORTERS GROUP EDITION.

High power ranking: T-AFC.

Perhaps I would know more about this group if I had infiltrated them like a spying stevedore. A great work around if the uber-capitalist ownership group gives you the icks but you and your comrades want to support your local team anyway. The fact that others are already trying to tear this group apart (or make them conform) says (to me at least) they have much power.

Mid power ranking: Terrazza d'Azzurro

The shear amount of Z's in their name lifts this "Group" up the power rankings. These scamps have claimed responsibility for things they haven't done (AFC shirt clad pitch invader). No one knows if they are actually serious or not but have come up with some merch that is annoyingly ok.

Low Power ranking: The Port

Shaping up to be the main supporters group for Auckland FC – you're welcome as long as you are a father or a son (no girls. ew!). Every time they say they're "independent" I believe it a little less. Their merch is just their logo on a tee shirt (who would do that). They have The Fever living rent free in their heads (and maybe T-AFC is in there too). I still don't get the name.

No Power ranking: The Paddock AFC09

Not even one game into the season, a splinter cell within the Port has seemingly appeared. Their idea is to embrace all things Auckland by appropriating farmer culture. Leave the mullets and redbands to the fine people of Gore.

I was tempted to make a "Let A Hundred Flowers Bloom" joke, but then you guys would think I was unironically a Maoist

BTW reading Noah4TheNix's post above, the timestamp indicates that the (draft) chant sheet hit Reddit within one hour of it being introduced to the T-AFC group. I suppose I've got to wear this one. I was the one who suggested to the T-AFC founders that it couldn't hurt to make our name known to see if we could get some attention. Probably you shouldn't take advice from the person who continually underestimates how much she annoys people, lol.

Brilliant. Do hope Terrazza d'Azzurro really are a thing, though you suspect it's one person's spoof of a group.

Do find it amusing after all the hours that were obviously spent on T-AFC's exhaustive impassioned manifesto, that the founders prior the first Auckland FC game, have embarked on something as bourgeoisie a holiday.

I'm sure Lenin & Castro would say the first rule of the revolution is turning up.

It would have to be a postcard. Internet is unobtainable in Cuba. Well, to tourists & plebs.

Not quite true, based on my 4 week trip there in 2018. You can buy internet credit at kiosks, and then input the 12 digit card number you are given to access an hour's WIFI at some local park. It is the worst thing (and maybe the best thing) about being in Cuba, the labor intensive frustrating way to get internet access.

Then as I found in Havana some of the local Airbnbs (casa particulars) have illegally somehow got modems into the country, and so can offer their tourist guests continous WIFI. Just don't tell the party officials

There is an innovative black market for everything on the island. Like from memory gambling is illegal, but there is an undergound lottery that uses the last 8 numbers of the actual Florida daily lottery or something crazy. Fascinating joint. And yeah the 1959 revoluation there was a very good thing initially, the place being a corrupt murderous Mafia fiefdom prior. But the Commies have stayed in power there now way past their use by date. I digress.

Corica estimates Auckland FC's footprint now stretches to 60 employees - about 15 backroom football staff supporting the 26 players, and roughly 20 in club operations - on par with his former employer Sydney FC.

"The Black Knights are out to make a splash in their inaugural campaign beginning on Saturday when Brisbane Roar visit Mt Smart Stadium, with 20,000 fans expected...

"Becker says the club has signed up more than 3,000 members, tracking towards their target of 5,000 by Christmas.

"Average attendance of 12,000 has been set as a pass mark, with hopes of 15,000 bolstered by their opening match and two home derbies - the "Kiwi Clasico'' - against Wellington Phoenix."

I recall that the first Knights game brought 9k to North Harbour.

Admittedly crowds became sparse thereafter.

So 20k for their first match at Mt Smart, shows the potential improvement. Am sure they will be hoping for a full house however.
