I'd join the consensus that that was Pijnaker's fault, not Paulsen as many were saying elsewhere

Spot the goalkeeper!

Bringing Elliott in not Smith may have been a tactical call... who knows, but I do love all the Nostradamus' on here.

And if the NIX goalie had ballsed up like Paulsen did on the weekend, no one would be making excuses for him.

You'll be playing Santa next.

to be fair I had nothing to do with this - I think most of my meetings are going to be about complaints about the quality of food or the price of carparking if I have learnt anything from this site.

Unfortunate:

injury update from the club;

Louis Verstraete: The Belgian midfielder has a slight back issue, but it expected to return to play within the next 1 – 2 weeks.

Cam Howieson: Cam sustained a calf injury, which will keep him sidelined for 4 -5 weeks. He is working hard to come back stronger in the new year.

Dan Hall: Dan has suffered a broken bone in his ankle, which will not require surgery at this stage. He is expected to be out of action for 10 – 12 weeks.

Good thing they've just partnered up with Auckland Radiology Group.

On the Ticketmaster website there's barely any seats left on both grandstands. May not sell out but should be at least 15k by the looks of it.

This won't be the test you think it'll be. The winning streak ending doesn't mean much when they're still undefeated. I think we can talk about "true test" once they actually lose

True test is being bottom half of the table, well and truly outside the top 6, halfway through the season... They probably won't experience that this season though.

... what the fudgeing fudge was that?!

Nah, seriously: the Snakes deserved their win, but what you just saw was AFC's Plan A not working for the first real time this season, and not having a plan B. I was very disappointed that the only real chances in the second half were from Paulsen  knocking it long and Gillion etc. getting into a foot race. Did the AFC defence just screw it up, or had WU worked them out? They seemed to be playing a *very* physical game, and certain decisions from the ref that played into that were not received well.

Very poor form from the Snakes gloating after the fourth goal. It's not as if they were getting in The Port's face, they were in-your-facing random mums and kids in the other direction.

Paulsen was getting *very* pissed off by the end. Moreno was sadly anonymous, but then Rogerson came on and was double anonymous. Was it Elliot who gave away the penno? I was shocked that someone with professional experience could make such an elementary blunder.

Big ups to The Port for staying behind after the final whistle to cheer their team, who frankly looked shellshock. There must have been at least 10K there, but this was the first time that I'd seen people leaving before the final whistle.

Huge test coming up on NYD against the Vuck - for both the team and the fanbase.

We have endured years of disappointing defeats as Nix supporters.  We know how to handle disappointment, hope, grief and misery. We have been toughened and callussed by them.  Not a place for inexperienced beginners, with barely one (1) crushing loss at home under their belt....

They miss Hiroki at RB tbh. Great player, but he's blunted at CB. Takes a crucial element out of Auckland's ability to drive forward.

Might be worth the risk next week to start Smith at CB and Hiroki goes back to his usual position?

Other than that, just a very off day for Auckland where nothing clicked and Western were ruthlessly clinical. It's football, it happens. Will be interesting to see how they bounce back against CCM next week.

That langos is delicious! Was a food truck around various places including Wynyard Quarter for a while there. Haven’t had it in at least 7 years.

And doing the Homer in the bush maneuver as results change is fine with me, though I’m not going to! It’s just being an Auckland fan of any kind iirc…

Pretty funny how few people, including Corica, don't know that the ref is part of the field so it doesn't matter if a player runs into them.

The absolute gall of that Auckland crowd to start booing the minute things stop going their way for the first time. They reacted to that third goal like they were stuck in 12th without a win. Great to see the honeymoon period abruptly ended.
Annual finals disappointment enthusiast.

Dont know why people are blaming the ref. It was standard A League refereeing i.e inconsistent, letting most rough stuff go etc. The ref didnt cost AFC the game. They lost because they were shiite. Corica is going to have to quickly sort out his leaky defense because there appears to be no plan B. The attack is blunt

Where does the leaky defence thing come from? They have the second best GA in the league. In fact one of only 3 teams still in single figures. Are you calling it a leaky defence because of just 1 game?

Conceded 1, then 2 and now 4! Wouldnt say the wheels have fallen off but clearly the squad is being tested with injuries and the travel schedule. Now we see what the home crowd is like after the first loss.

Ref is getting grief for the 3rd goal, not the whole game, but ok, thats your narrative.
Most AFC fans realise we were poor, not up for it from the start, that happens sometimes

That might be you but have seen plenty of comment from many others on social media complaining about the ref.
So certainly certainly isnt just my narrative.
As i posted is something fans of other teams in NZ do on a regular basis.
Not sure there is a need to be so defensive on a Phoenix forum.
