Anyone worked out what Paulsen was complaining about for the 2nd goal?

At a guess, I thinkin ghe thought the front man was offside. But also probab;ly moe unhappy about how badly he read the attack and how badly he missed the ball.

He thought he was fouled by Ibusuki when punching the ball clear after a cross about 30s-1m before the goal. Can see him remonstrating that he thought his hand/arm was impeded. To be honest, I didn't think it was a foul; least right to feel aggrieved of the three goals.

Was wondering the same thing, watched it back a couple of times but still no idea. He seems to be pointing at his thigh at one point while complaining to the ref.

I would get it if he was complaining at his defence, but complaining about something to the ref has me stumped - didnt look like Western did anything wrong

"Might be worth the risk next week to start Smith at CB and Hiroki goes back to his usual position?"

The T-AFC crew *were* wondering exactly what Tommy Smith does to earn a paycheque at this club. Certain signings seem to be "Kiwi patriotism-signalling" rather than on merit tbh

He's doing the job Corica has asked of him , the closer, he comes on late in the second half to seal up a tight win. Clearly a tactic that Corica wants to employ. Personally I think he could do the starting CB role and let Sakai go back to RB where he has been so dangerous.

There were 4 goals, and nothing to feel aggrieved about on any of them.

I agree that it looks like the defence was not the same without Dan Hall.  Sakai moving to the CB meant his visible impact at RB (especially in the game against us) was diminished. Elliott is OK at RB but Sakai is better.  And I am not sure if Sakai (great player that he is otherwise) is as good at CB as Dan Hall is.

So now that Payne has rejected AFC's overtures and subsequently  cashed in, any guesses as to who they'll sign in January to replace Dan Hall?

Two shark first halves in sucession. Corica's got an attitude problem to sort out in his squad. Not to mention Gillion needs some serious shooting tuition.

Isnt just shooting though is it his overall distribution has been pretty average from what i have seen.(stand to be corrected) He seems to be another in a long list of A League flyers who look great running at and beating people but when it comes to doing something with the ball it just dosnt happen.

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt with finding & connecting with team mates. But not with knowing when & where to hit on goal. He's a great dribbler, with great pace. Kinda like a kid who can copy Hendrix's guitar licks but can't nail the song.

But as well his midfield colleagues seem to get to a position outside the box, 2 or 3 players in the box and have a pop from distance. It’s low percentage football in a tight game. Both Gallegos and May got on target shots off, but they shouldn’t trouble a competent A league keeper.

It’s not just Gillion.

I reckon May will score plenty if he stays injury-free. Gallegos not so much.

He’s playing a false nine or something? If he’s further forward when he hits that it’s a much better chance.

It's gossip from Facebook, so take it with a heavy dose of salt, but some feedback I read about Joey Champness not playing for AFC.

Could be a useful pickup for the Nix, if was fit? Though might just fail any 'no dickhead' policy??

Jets, Turkish club and Auckland - that would make 3 clubs where he'd left under acrimonious circumstances??

1. Does anyone know what's happening with Joe Champness? He was announced, he's on the AFC website but he's not on the matchday posters? Does he train with the group?

2. FWIW My son asked the head coach at the AFC football camp last week about Champness and was told “we don’t talk about Joe Champness” got the feeling there has been a falling out.

3. He packed a sad a few weeks ago about not being in squad after coming back from an injury. Apparently was killing it at training. Then just started no showing at trainings. Then they found out he was in Australia. Not sure why he is over there. Pretty sure contract will be terminated.

Definitely don't need Champness, His attitude is too questionable to take the risk.

Gillian has been figured out. Almost Appiah Ver 2.0 but has better dribbling skills. But he too often makes the wrong choices, Shoots when he should pass, passes when he should shoot.

Not unlike a first season Ben Old. Gillion is 8 games into his pro career, he's coachable.

I like RR's idea of the Nix making a play for Sotiro, if he's match fit. Would definitely offer something if Rojas is injured, and back to playing on the counter is the primary tactical approach.

In Champness' shoes, I'd have been pissed off seeing Rogerson, Moreno and Gillion not playing overly well while I'm unable to make a squad.

Packing a sad isn't the right approach, esepcially so quickly, but I see why he'd be disillusioned.

Was an attitude problem and falling out in the lead up to the first derby apparently.

Was at training up to that point then just started no showing. Rightfully let go if that's the case. Seems to have started some business or whatnot if the ads I've seen on Instagram are anything to go by.

Trouble does appear to follow him. Will take a brave (or desperate) A-League club to give him another contract.

Auckland probably had one too many wide players on their books in any case, so not a bad time for his departure.

Don't think football is at the forefront of his latest endeavours to be honest.

I've always thought he was a talented player, but he could just never hone and funnel that talent into anything substantial on the pitch which is a shame.

Lad always seemed to attract drama no matter where he'd land as well, so probably not a good omen for him to get picked up by another club...

**Edit**
For those who may have, or may be suggesting a Nix swoop - Absolutely no faarken chance!

......all the best for the future in both his football and personal endeavours", is a pointed little dig.

Bit of a shame, as he brings a bit of a point of difference, with his dribbling skills to NZ's small football talent pool. But yeah ain't no i in team.

The Roar? He had a useful season for them back in 2020/21, and his younger brother was playing in the QLD NPL.

Probably just enough talent, to make a dollar with music, no need to flog your body at training, no coach selection whims, and plenty of hangers on telling you how fantastic you are.

Coupled with a nice fat $1.33 Million payout from his former Turkish club (with FIFA's help), yes his motivation to grind away at football training in an attempt to crack match day squads might be low.

From Wikipedia

In September 2016, Killen admitted to sexually assaulting a young woman in England. After first denying the charge, Killen changed his plea to guilty before he was due to go on trial.[57][58] Killen received a 12-month jail term but it was suspended for 18 months, he was also ordered to undergo 20 hours of rehabilitation and to perform 200 hours of community service.[59]

It's an opinion obviously but I don't think Katie is ready - also I don't know what license she has - you have to have Pro Diploma, might get away with a dispensation if you have an A.

Looking into licenses and the criteria for the league should have been one of the main parts of the research for this article I would have thought.
