How about a balloon with your special name on it, like Auckland do? Jaysus

The club has been around for a while, but if we’re complaining because we’re not going through club owners and leadership like [insert metaphor here] f- me. We could be WSW. Haven’t won a finals game in 10 years. Or Sydney or Adelaide- all in alsorans. You’re not alone in your football team not being number one. 12 clubs are guna experience that this year.

Those teams have actually you know… Won stuff.

I’m sure that 18 year old WSW fan is enjoying 10 years of fandom without a finals win because they’ve ‘won’ something. Gtf over yourselves.

Two All Whites lured home.

Lots of whining, but I bet you looking at Rogerson was un ambitious or something to the critics on here.

Few other lads out there we could be targeting.

They may however be enjoying watching 58 goals over the season verses 27.

Lotta frustrated Victory fans around me at AAMI Park, they were seething over some of the ref’s calls but also at their own players’ wastefulness.

Makes the next leg more exciting.

The Nix have now some serious competition in NZ. If we dont up our game we will go backwards. I get sick of hearing excuses every year why we never win anything. We have probably had the most stable financial situation of any club in the last 15 years......with zero on the field success. Off the field its all gone a bit stale. IMO we should be looking at a change of management. The club seriously needs some fresh ideas and drive.

So the Nix has been around for 20 years and have the same guy run things for yonks, haven't won anything and your ripping me one for wanting a change of vision. The clubs mentioned above have won stuff too. Heck Adelaide could have given Auckland a run if their squad wasn't decimated by the Aussie U20 campaign (an actual excuse).

Nix don't have a winning mentality in the organisation and if it doesn't change, they won't win anything soon. Things are also gonna get interesting when AFC sets up a youth academy too.

off topic, so delete if inappropriate but the addition of AFC and how they have gone makes me actually want another NZ NRL team, because the Warriors won't cope too.

They haven't gone under because they have had no competition in NZ for nearly 20 years. If you don't agree, everything about the Nix this season proves they can't handle another team in NZ.
martinb
Also if you’re such a keen fan, get involved. Suggest football at a cinema and try and get the club and the council and the owners signed up, getting the younger players in to watch away games so you’re not taking from 4 Kings.

If the atmosphere isn’t there, get a new tshirt design done. Or get some prizes from the club for people wearing Nix shirts on Friday before game day. Remember LG gave out some of his own tickets randomly at one point.

It’s NZ. It’s small. You want it to happen without two of the richest people in the country, initiate it suggest it follow it up.

Don’t blame Domey for running a club that hasn’t gone under.

You’re smug cos you’ve got a new home to rain smugness down from.

Imagine if you’re WSW and you spent all that money. Mata, Kraev…and for nothing. A decade of losses. Ditto Sydney. Disappointment is a fairly universal fan experience. Apart from the Auckland FC, clearly.

Yeh this year sucked. Last season though Domey wasn’t marking Doka or Avatarring the Victory defender who scored his first in a decade. Doubt he was kissing Rufer either.

Give it a chance till next season and if after 4-5 weeks we still suck then it’s serious pressure time.

But crap happens sometimes, it’s not letting it happen again. We’ve got an ownership reacting to unstable overspending or ‘Terry Money’ here and at other clubs. But we’ve certainly had some great entertainment in the past 5 years, just not this one.

In the meantime the guys playing are Phoenix players, let’s give them our support and see if we can lift them as fans.

Sorry wrong thread.

Wtf are you talking about? The Nix are going under because there are two NZ clubs?? Whoever you are to run the club please. Auckland took them to the cleaners in the end on the park, but off the park the derbies were box office.
No, no not Auckland let’s play Brisbane and Newcastle 3 times instead, said nobody.

Sure the Nix have to up their game to win and that path goes through the Bombays, but so what? That’s good for NZ football, and good for the punters. Starting from next year.

Also the Domey thread is somewhere else. See ya there….

I'm not saying they'll go under and they are more financially stable than other clubs. I'm just making a point from my opinion is that the Nix hasn't coped well with Auckland FC in the league and it'll be interesting going forward. They haven't had to deal with NZ competition too (e.g. Auckland fans supporting the nix as there is no Auckland team or only one academy with a professional pathway (two in the future).

If you are complaining about playing Brisbane/Newcastle three times and not getting interest, it seems like more excuses too as the Nix can't do anything about how the draw is done.

I’m ripping you because the idea that apparently is so different is a big screen in a cold, windy square downtown. That’s the difference.

Adelaide did challenge Auckland. They lost. After the Rogerson equaliser, their ‘winning mentality’ went belly up. And their fans are unhappy. But that’s okay because they’ve got an excuse! And a letter from their parents…

Keep the ideas coming though!

I mean the potential future rivalry is over though? Wellington had a tough season so any future games or desire to challenge the Auckland team is voided? Auckland won’t even play them now?

The rivalry going ahead will be great for NZ football everywhere.

It’s not exactly news Auckland owned Wellington and everyone this season. If you’ve got a spare Texas billionaire who’s looking to add to his multi-club empire and has a few billionaire mates, I’m sure people will listen in Wellington.

Otherwise the Nix are more financially stable because of the ownership group’s commitment and generosity and the way the club has been run. Though Uffie shoulda done better, all things considered.

And as for fans in Auckland they had a couple of teams. It’s not the Phoenix’s fault they were the only ones to keep the professional game alive.

Tbf in terms of this season what you have posted is spot on and I couldn’t agree with you more.

Adelaide were meant to be Auckland’s closest challenger for the premiers plate for well over half the season and then their collective arse fell out after they couldn’t beat Auckland at home.

Auckland v City would be a fascinating final. Auckland hold the advantage in regular season but City have shown how good they are and in a one off could easily spoil the party.

It would be so good for New Zealand football to host an A League grand final.

Three for me, and two for them.

I feel the pain mate.

Certainly you’re not alone with being unhappy.

My feeling is the club has chosen their coach for next season and said they’ll back him.

He’s said there’ll be changes. I’m prepared to wait and see what he cooks up. I can remember last season and how we were clinical, had a fun Salas cameo and how Doka slew us.

For me the time to ask questions next season will be 6 weeks in, if it’s clear we couldn’t replace Sutts and Wootton and we’re still relying on the kids to produce rabbits out of hats.

I mean let’s be fair, no one knew how good Kosta would be in this spell. But his quality comes from talent plus experience and professionalism. A bit more of that…

A few good games and especially a good run at the derbies and we’ll be feeling much better as fans.

If it doesn’t work, get a new coach and go again. Last year Rufer, Pennington and Al-Taay seemed to have limitless energy in midfield, similar to Verstraete and pals this time around. We need to up our squad fitness and get in a few reinforcements with a bit of experience, like the latter two.

I think an onfield rebuild is the main thing. A big screen on the waterfront isn’t going to score us any goals.

Anyway, waay off topic though I did mention the derby!

Outstanding play by May last night, not just as striker, but dropping back in to mid and winning a ton of possession from tough situations.
Auckland are bullies, and this year, the refs are allowing it. Not my type of play but constant physical pressure and heavy contact is very effective. It wears opponents down.
Imagine how good they'd be if Corica fielded his best side, ie Moreno for François, and Brimmer for Randall.
Randall, unlike François, has looked decent. But Brimmer is too good to leave out. Francois is the 5th choice L wing IMO.

Lastly, I sure hope the Nix management is focussed on the Nix, and not AFC. What works for a club in a major city, having a dream debut season, and whose owner owns a downtown bar won't work for small city teams.

Not off topic as it seems we can agree that the Nix hasn't reacted well to having Auckland in the league and next season will be fascinating to see how the Nix reacts (and how Auckland goes), if the same happens a new vision/management/coaching is definitely needed.

The reaction also hasn't helped fans north of the Bombays stay loyal to the nix too.
It will be definitely good for NZ football if Auckland manage to host the GF.

I did enjoy the post match interviews.

FDV thoughtful, humble and commenting that Auckland need to now reset, the job being only half done. Apparently he studied pyschology at his American uni?? Sense some mental toughness in that skinny looking frame.

In contrast Arzani whilst no doubt a huge football talent, proving that he is still a cod. VUC were robbed blah blah. Should have had at least one pen, Auckland are one dimensional, and FDV's cross for Rogerson's goal was a 'nothing ball'. Ungracious as.

Archie Thompson disagreeing saying de Vries's cross was dangerous, in the spot where the keeper can't come out, and you get uncertainty in the defence.

Deep down Aranzi knows he was weak in not closing down FDV, and leaving space for him to loft the ball in.

Corica should stick Arzani's comments in the dressing room of 'one dimenional' AFC. Nothing better than a losing VUC team & their fans whinge.

Their coach looks like he is similar as well.

Hope the next game is less stressful, with an early goal to AFC.

A penalty awarded finally after 28 games would be nice.

Auckland will rise once more

Yes Diles is very much a VUC gaffer.

Also heard Tara Rushton say that FDV must be attracting interest elsewhere. He is 30, but could some European clubs be looking at him?

Which in the bigger picture makes you wonder how Auckland will cope next seasdon if a few of those experienced Kiwi/Aus players they do have like FDV, Hall & Pijanker did move on. Paulsen definitely is. There isn't a bottomless pit of Unattached/cheap Kiwi late 20s players out there. And their Academy pathway is only just starting.

As we know overseas clubs definitely start looking at various players in successful ALM teams.

I was going to go to the live site but by the time I got around to it all the tickets were gone! then I heard from T-AFC guys who went there that no-one was checking tickets anyway :(

Pity, you could’ve had your moment on the big screen at AAMI Park!

Big reaction from the Victory supporters when they cut to the celebratory scenes there after the goal, which shows to AFC’s credit that even if it’s a gimmick it’s an effective one.

I read somewhere that Alex was giving it big time to victory fans at the end.

Last time in Aussi hopefully for some time. Great if he did 😂

Hope Red Badge and the Police are more prepared than they were for the WSW game recently. I imagine there will be a fair number of travelling VUC fans this weekend.

Basically a 'home' Grand Final for them if they can get the upset win at Mt Smart.

De Vries is too old for a fee-paying move. He may start getting big wage offers from Asia as he nears the end of his contract (which expires at end of next season).

Rogerson the only player off contract at season's end for AFC other than Paulsen who they'll not want to lose. Interesting that there was no question or comment in the article about Logan in Stuff the other day regarding the prospect of him staying at AFC next season... must be keeping his options open with an eye on perhaps shooting back overseas.

Pijnaker is the only Kiwi that I could see fee offers being made to AFC to sign him. The most annoying thing to me as an All Whites fan and Nix fan who instinctively despises AFC is that they don't even have really exciting Kiwi youngsters shining for them (other than Paulsen). Nothing close to the levels of Cacace, Singh, Old, Surman. Would be easier to not resent their success if they had a kid like that breaking through who was clearly destined for much better things.

I think the CV and age profile of players won’t make them that desirable to European clubs.

I do however think that J league clubs could be very interested. Someone like Louis could absolutely boss midfields and Nando likewise on defence.

I left straight after so can’t confirm or refute, but he was getting booed for time wasting a lot towards the end so I can see how he might’ve gotten a bit feisty.

AFC have literally just entered the league. They're not going to have "exciting" young players immediately when they've only just established a Reserves team. It to the Nix several years to get that and then to start churning them out more regularly like the names you've mentioned. What a ridiculous statement.

At the start of the season Gillion (age 22) was that exciting youngster. Going from the Northern League to the AWs in 6 months. Sure he ain't near the national team now, but I'm not ruling him out from getting there again.

Randall (22) is also at the moment getting good mins. I think Jonty Bidois (20) can hopefully cut it at ALM level.

Without Auckland, these guys could all still be kicking around the domestic scene.

Plus for me it has been really exciting to see these world travelers come home and do the job in the A league. Rogerson certainly has great numbers and a big game mentality, which you’d have no way of knowing when he was at Noah, but big goals in Adelaide and Melbourne! Not many more impressive things you can do in the A league.

Add to that Mata, Nando, Tommy, Elliot, Frank de Vries, Howieson….it’s been interesting to see where they’re all at.

And I’d say that with hand ball goals etc, and not scoring early, it wasn’t clear until after the initial derbies, Moreno’s arrival and Mata starting just how dominant this team were.

As there’s been delight in saying, there was no point of correction where they had a significant dip in form, certainly compared to the Nix or Adelaide who were expected to take it to them.

Dome out because he didn’t try to take business away from Wellington’s desperate hospitality sector? O f-n k.

I heard recently that Auckland don't intend to set up an academy - they'd prefer to keep them at the local clubs up until they put them in their reserves team, this way they can keep their options open rather than 'betting on one horse' they can see who develops best as they get older before bringing them into the club

So according to the stuff article today, Scott Morris the former under 23 NZ goalkeeper, recently at Stoke is the replacement goalkeeper for Alex.

24 yr old Morris, good enough to push Woud, but you'd think likely this season's Auckland no 2, will get first chance post Paulsen to be the new no 1.

Saw a rumour Tzanev may have joined Auckland, but that would have tough on Woud, bringing in an older experienced guy, without an least giving Michael W first crack.

See that Mata is out of today's game. That reduce's the threat from FDV's crosses and long throws.

Terry McFlynn was quoted as saying they pretty much promised Michael Woud the number 1 spot next season:

"The way Michael has conducted himself and the way he’s handled himself, with Alex Paulsen coming in on loan has been exemplary across the whole group,” said McFLynn. “He’s been fantastic. His attitude’s been amazing. We told Michael it was going to be a one-year loan deal for Alex. We told Alex it was a one-year loan deal and he was going back after that. So culturally, we can’t go back on that now and we need to give Michael the opportunity, which he deserves. And with Alex, it’s been an absolute pleasure working with him day in and day out and helping him on his journey.”
