Would be an interesting signing for a few reasons, esp if it was a multi season deal.
Someone said Brook's girl friend is Macey Fraser? She ain't getting much playing time for the Utah Royals, but there ain't (yet) an ALW team in the 09.
It appears Auckland FC have settled on their replacement for departed Colombian winger Neyder Moreno.
The Herald understands the club are close to a deal with Australian age-group international Lachlan Brook, with only final details to be completed. Sources in Australia have indicated that discussions with the 24-year-old have been ongoing since late June.
Brook was most recently with Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Real Salt Lake, moving from Western Sydney Wanderers in July last year, off the back of a standout 2023/2024 A-League campaign where he notched nine goals in 23 league matches.
But the Utah-based club announced last week that a mutual termination of his contract had been agreed. Brook made a total of 12 MLS appearances for the club along with a couple of games in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Brook was a young prodigy, making his first-team debut for Adelaide United as a 16-year-old in 2017. He was later signed by English Premier League club Brentford – then in the Championship – though he was consigned to the reserves with the Bees.
But he did spend a season on loan with League Two outfit Crewe Alexandra, with three goals in 34 games – before the head-turning stint at the Wanderers. Wanderers' Lachlan Brook (right) tussles with the Phoenix's Ben Old during an A-League clash. Photo / Photosport
From the evidence of his previous A-League performances, Brook is a natural dribbler who likes to run at defenders to create chances and isolate them with one on one duels. He struggled to make an impact at Real Salt Lake, which is a unique place to live and work. But his body of experience in the A-League, and the fact he was a proven performer at two different clubs, would hold appeal for Auckland FC. He is also young but has years of senior football behind him.
Since Moreno’s departure was confirmed in late May, Auckland FC have been canvassing possibilities for a new wide player. Their options were limited to a New Zealander or an Australian, as the club hierarchy decided to use their fifth and final visa spot – created by Moreno’s exit – on a striker.
Brook is a different kind of player but there will be an expectation that he can thrive in the Auckland environment, under the experienced coaching team of Steve Corica and Danny Hay. He managed a total of 29 first-team appearances at Adelaide United and another 25 at Western Sydney Wanderers and has more than 100 senior matches on his resume across Australia, England and the United States. He has also played 17 matches for the Olyroos (Australian Under-23 team), after being capped at both U20 and U17 level.
Odd to hype an announcement if the Herald already announced it today. And dont NZME have some sort of official arrangement with AFC? They can't be happy with their media partner gazumping them like that, if it is the aussie kid being announced at 7am

afc get 2 bites this way, they probably leaked it
Especially for a player that isn’t Hiroki Sakai, it means your hardcore support has googled and YouTubed all about him and is ready to tell everyone else when the fanfare arrives tomorrow!

And leaks are a bit edgy and attractive.
I wonder if the 7am announcement is so that it can be done on breakfast TV, 7 is pretty early (especially in our night owl household)
I liked the vid from yesterday teasing the player. Any clip from breaking bad will do that to you.
But the above would have to be one of the most cringe announcements
Good signing however. Experienced but still young in age and one who knows the league. See he is more classified as a right winger and possesses a left foot. Would assume that he will however initially start on the left. Hopefully he will be able to create more end product than Francois and Gillion on that side. Both have ability but can’t seem to transfer that to goals or assists.
I guess it’s in line with the black knights and the black shirt of NZ.
May not be the best for a steamy hot summer day in Aussi, however ,
I think you'll find their home kit this season will be predominantly black - with just some thin blue stripes
Couldn’t be more wrong.
Obviously have different info from me - same source for me that told me back in late May that Tommy Smith wouldn't return to Auckland, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until they are proven wrong.
But what I've heard is that the home shirt will be mostly black, with thin (almost pinstripes) blue stripes, some of which are double stripes. Collar and sleeve cuffs are white.
Away shirt is white with greyish diagonal lines throughout, a gold collar and gold on the sleeves.
Third shirt is light green and darkish blue with a blue collar.

The leaked kit this morning is pinstripes but it is dark blue with white pinstripes.

No black whatsoever.
No that's their 'Vintage Polo' leisure wear shirt - not an on-field shirt
Left foot, right foot, header, assist … new Auckland FC signing Lachlan Brook appears to have all bases covered in his armoury of skills.
The A-Leagues have put together an eight-minute highlights reel of some of the Australian age group international’s best moments from previous spells in the competition.
Brook (24) has played more than 100 professional games in Australia, England and the United States, and has played men’s A-League for Adelaide United and Western Sydney Wanderers.
He’s Auckland FC’s latest signing, having joined from Major League Soccer side Real Salt Lake.
You can only tell so much from a highlights video, but looks to have the skill set to play more centrally and be more at home at number 10 then the wing.
Auckland FC's latest signing first played in the A-League as a teenager for his hometown club and, nearly a decade on, Lachlan Brook believes a focus on youth is good for the competition.
it would be so great to watch Sail flapping around for AFC. The question is why? for both parties it seems pretty pointless. Assuming Woud is the first choice, why would Sail want to be the #2, and then why would AFC want the leagues worst keeper anywhere near their squad??
Also after reading the article more fully, it is clear that AFC are desperate with 3 keeper with injury issues.
Don't think this move is good for either of Woud or Sail.
I think it's good for a goal keeper to have a solid #2 behing them, but also the understanding they are #1 - their role being the least forgiving etc. You could argue both will play on edge, keeping them sharp, but given their respective histroy of clangers, I just don't see it going that way.
Woud waited patiently and deserves his chance.
Sail should stay at Perth and prove he's number 1 there... but maybe he thinks the ship is going to sink again out there (pun intended).
While years ago, I just can’t get Woud’s performances and heart attack moments at the last Olympics out of my head.
Happy he has some real competition.
From Sails viewpoint, I guess he knows if he stays in the A league. in any case he will need to beat Woud to get ahead of him for the World Cup squad.
If he can make the starting team and the defence does not take a noticeable decline from last season with Alex, then he will have a solid case to be number 3 for the All Whites.
Firstly Sail would have to come in as the number 2 as Auckland FC made a big deal publicly saying that Woud would be given the starting spot to begin with this season.
And secondly, because Sail still has a year on his contract at Glory, they will have to terminate it for him to be able to move because despite getting rid of the Caceres clause last year they never changed the rules to allow transfers between clubs (as far as I'm aware) - or maybe just like last season they can update the rules again at Auckland's wishes!

Clubs can loan players to other ALM clubs nowadays. Initially there was an age limit for them but a 34yr old Oli Bozanic was loaned out a couple seasons ago, so I think it is safe to assume that isn't the case anymore.
Glory will probably just get mutual with him tho. I wouldn't be shocked if they pay him some cash to make up the difference between what AFC are offering and what he is currently getting.
Live in your home city, no snakes, crocs and few jellyfish, less than 35 degrees, see your family, work for the number one club… Fairly decent reasons for Oli.

May not be factual but rumour is the new import striker is Sam Cosgrove.
While he had a decent stint at Aberdeen which led to a 2 million pound transfer to Birmingham City, in recent years his goal scoring output has been underwhelming at league one level.
Still he fits the profile of a big unit, off contract, still only 28 and probably at a level where he may do ok in the A league.
Likely an upgrade on Mata but not one which screams goals.
This announcement of Sail going to Auckland pretty much got the reaction I was expecting.
No hate, no jealousy, no calling him a snake or whatever. Just a nod of acknowledgement and perhaps a wee bit of a smirk from those of a yellow and black persuasion.
I should say though that I have nothing against Sail either. In fact I thought he was very good in biding his time with us and served us well when he finally got the #1 jersey. Was a little bit sad when he left, but that's football ain't it?
In saying that though, there is absolutely no denying the fact that since his move away from Wellington he's been bloody honking. So much so that it seems to have severely diminished his AW's ambitions for that third keeper spot leading into a World Cup year. Not aided of course by having a team equivalent of Swiss cheese in front of him in Perth, but it is a little heartening to see some apprehension in the Auckland ranks with this one.

The crocs don't come down as far south as Perth. Plenty of Great Whites though, and they can come in pretty close to the beaches there. They have an ocean water swimming race out to nearby Rottnest Island (19km from Freemantle), which I've always thought you must have absolute balls of steel to do.
