some fans are so salty about AFC winning not one but two trophies. AFC winning is actually good for NZ Football, we need to get rid of this petty one up rivalry. Also with Payne gone - nobody new is going to care too much for the Nix anymore.

What a load of BS its called rivalry. You dont think their fans have been gloating at our recent woes. Yet you expect us to be all happy smiley for them.
All it takes is the Nix to start winning and plenty will jump on board just as they will jump off AFC if they start losing.

Hopefully wherever he goes, he takes a few Kiwis with him as well. He's worked with a lot of talented New Zealand players over the last couple of years, and it would be great to see some of them get opportunities overseas too.

Given most of the reasons I don’t like AFC have been off the park: Corica, McFlynn and Becker’s overly clever marketing, if they signed Ange and it worked, I would have to up my level of respect.
Especially given Mitchell at the Jets and a few others would make it a brilliant A league season. I don’t think it’d be a foregone conclusion, with a lot of change to get an Ange squad and playing group.
As I think we’ve discussed, in this league, the coach is the most important piece of the puzzle towards creating a title winning dynasty.
On the other hand, Ange played great football but didn’t win as much at Victory iirc?
Still, it’d be a huge coup.

I'm just spit balling with Ange (and it isn't completely out of the possibility IMO), outside of Milligan who would be options for AFC given that there isn't a cap for the manager and with Corica as their first coach they signed the best option available IMO. It would be like if PNG (NRL) somehow ends up with Ivan Cleary as their first coach.
Be interesting to see who they are looking at.

The idea that Ange could coach Auckland is one of the silliest things I have read in awhile.
Europe is the football mecca. He still lives in the UK I think. He will get a job up there somewhere. Celtic could take him back. Alternatively Saudi or a national team gig. He had sucess with the Socceroos after all
Not even Foley wants to spend Ange type wages on a coach

Yes Ange probably demands somewhere between $50k to $100k a week.
No reason on earth Ange would do this unless he decided his managerial career was mostly finished.

I cant help but think this next season could be tough for AFC. The salary cap rules change everything. Their squad will have to have plenty of low cost younger players. Losing key players like Dan Hall. May etc will hurt. They wont have a stacked bench anymore.
Plus they have lost the best coach in AL history. I suspect the derbys will be quite a bit closer

Glad Hay went too. We need more Kiwi coaches getting experience overseas, especially in a league as strong as Japan.

same. losing some top players plus coahing team bound to have an impact. a cycnic would say Corica leaving before things get tough and there is some truth to that, next season going to be a lot tougher. on the other hand, like a footballer whos stocks are high and moves to something bigger, same with the coach. looking after number 1

Is it 20Legend who made the point that the new club exemptions exist largely as a counter point to the homegrown and long service allowances?
As well the club will still have the same owners, have access to the same conditioning and scouting assistance as part of the wider international football group, have a bunch of fans with high expectations and is one of the more attractive climates in Australia and NZ, with fewer earthquakes, no snakes, no crocs, hardly any jellyfish of note and no fire ants etc etc
It might get tougher. Or it might just be same same by different.

yep but those only kick in after several years, so with the current dispensations being removed AFC will be on a weaker footing than clubs that have players who have been around for 4 years or more.
Years of Continuous Service [1, 2]Percentage of Salary Exempt from Cap
4 Years | 12.5% exempt
5 Years | 25% exempt
6 to 9 Years | Increases by 5% each year
10+ Years | 50% exempt (Maximum allowance)
The Major Catch: The 2026/27 Hard Cap

The Major Catch: The 2026/27 Hard Cap
The A-League Men are executing a strict transition to a hard AU$3 million salary cap model. Under this updated structure, historical exemptions like the loyalty discount are being phased down. Moving forward, clubs are limited to just one marquee player entirely outside the cap pool.

Not sure what llm you used but I'm sure loyalty players only kick in in the fifth season.
This is when it was first introduced and only change since is move to % not a fixed amount:

A Loyalty Player allowance has been included to give clubs a sliding scale of Salary Cap relief for players who have played between 5-10 years at the club. The total amount that can be spent on Loyalty Players is $200,000 outside the Salary Cap.

I think the general point is that Corica’s achievements are helped by wealthy owners with experience and knowledge of running football clubs, not from league allowances.
But those same advantages will still be there for the next manager, irrespective of allowances or long service not applying.
It might mean balancing out higher paid players with more scholarship/lower paid players if it’s a hard cap, but the cash is there to spend.

Yes.
The "Auckland have had salary cap allowances" for the past two seasons is copium. You'll notice no clubs are moaning about it because there's actually some science behind how the allowance is chosen.
And people are conflating it with the salary clamp down this season. Auckland aren't losing players because they had a massive salary allowance that is ending, they're losing players because the entire league is getting clamped.
Which stands to reason that everyone will struggle.
(I'm not saying Auckland isn't going to find was it essentially a total rebuild tough, just that it's due to the overall salary cap reduction not some special Auckland sauce)

Very quiet. That specific detail doesn't seem to be present on the AL website when it would have last changed when the last CBA was signed, neither on the PFA website.
