1-1 at half time, nothing really to write home about. Clut bundled home from close range and Powell made sure a dribbling shot from O'Donovan crossed the line.

Gave up with 10 mins left, CCM winning 2-1 after Pain curled in a shot. He was probably the best player on the pitch, linked up very well with Powell on a number of occasions

On the other hand, footage of Cahill getting nutmegged, Cahill slipping and a shot going out for a throw in, Cahill getting beaten by the Nix....

Expansion coming soon apparently. Seems like the FFA are still Wed to the idea of expansion teams creating new derbies. It's almost like they've forgotten that Heart were a bit of a joke before City group turned up

Football clubs need identities. In places where there's already a team they need to tap into a group of potential fans who don't feel connected to the pre-existing team. Western Sydney had a large enough base of such fans to make the Wanderers viable. Does Perth? Does Adelaide? Does South Sydney? I doubt it....

Fox Sports will pay $50 million a year for the rights to show the A-League, which they have done so since its inception in 2005.

On top of the $50 million, FFA are holding out hope that a free-to-air channel will pay between $10-15 million to broadcast the Saturday night prime-time matches, which is currently when marquee matches are broadcast such as the Sydney and Melbourne derbies.

Guess the Cahill metrics wasn't enough to save the FFA's blushes over the new TV deal.

It's not what they wanted but it's hardly egg on the face. It's double the old deal but just for the A-League with Socceroo rights still to negotiate as well as the new games if expansion happens. The old deal also included Asian cup rights, etc which aren't included this year.

They still are, take away the victory fans padding their attendance during derbies, and their attendances are worse than ours.

Allegedly

They have upped it because they lost the EPL rights to Optus.

I actually really like the new a lfague logo.

The ball looks cool and I like the team coloured versions.

Why not do this at the start of the 2017/2018 season.  Mid season seems stupid and quite frankly annoying when your new shirt is now obsolete.

Permalink Permalink

It's not coming in until next year. The lead in times for shirt manufacture are long so there is a high chance it would get leaked before hand. Hence why the announcement now.

You know they'll be getting in. FFA are just idiots and will add a 5th team before an old NSL/Canberra team... Pricks.

And they can piss off not rescheduling this match.

SOCCER’S record TV deal isn’t actually worth $346 million at all, with consultancy fees, contra and other performance-related bonuses eating away at the base value of the contract.

Herald Sun investigation has found that the true cash value of the deal currently stands at less than $300m.

It is understood that $5m of the deal hinges on A-League expansion, with that money only forthcoming if new teams are added in Melbourne, Sydney and/or Brisbane.

So add three teams. 13 teams, 24 games per season minimum with playoffs another 3.
