Tinkler talks to Jets fans

In this interview, Tinkler mentioned that he thought another A league club (not the Jets) would attract an EPL club that takes a controlling interest in the upcoming off-season (at approx 9:25).

Kotahitanga. We are one.

Heard a rumour that Red Bull were looking at the A League as well, maybe for a South Sydney/Wollongong side in the next round of expansion. Could be complete BS though (I think I read it in comments under an article somewhere)

Who do you guys think should win player of the year? For me I feel that Aaron Mooy has been the best player hands down. I doubt it would go to a player from a team so far down the table though. Marc Janko/Burns maybe the favourites?

Other names? Finkler, Bonevacia, Dimitrijevic, Galekovic?

Mooy will win the Alex Tobin, he is on 31 points and Burns is on 27 (Alex Tobin points are used as the bonus points in Fox Sports' fantasy competition)

Mooy 24 games, Burns 22 games. Mooy has the advantage that he doesn't have anyone competing for the points, whilst Burns has Roly (he is on 22 points)

Mooy has been outstanding this season, consistent through the whole season unlike burns who has been on fire at times then quietly simmering. But that's just my opinion

Good point, that is actually a pretty decent flaw in the system.

Was being talked up by Cronulla Shark CEO and Tim Cahill when he was still at NY Red Bulls. But he's not there any more.

Dunno about that, Johnny Warren is voted on 3 times during the season. He has been on fire the last part of the season but Janko would have taken a lot of the middle sections votes. Could be a very close race this season.

Maybe Mooy isn't leading after all, "Ben Khalfallah, who leads the Newscorp Player of the Year voting". Alex Tobin was voted on by Newscorp journos, so I'm guessing that has been renamed.

Sounds like its a few days after the Spurs game, so it would be awesome but sadly can't see it happening.

seems like if you relax the loan rules then you may as well not have a salary cap

i suppose the min cap will go up and if they relax loan rules again it will further benefit the top 3 or so wealthiest teams. Would like to see the ffa continue to match the cap with payments to the clubs.

Would be absolutely ridiculous if they don't, in light of CCM not paying for their own players to attend their awards night and Roar in the financial crapper. If the point of the salary cap is to maintain equality and competitiveness across the league then why would you raise it above a level which is currently affordable for some clubs and then not help them pay it? I guess making stupid decisions on such matters is par for the course for sports administrators though, so wouldn't be surprised if they're not going to increase their contribution to the cap.

yeah, i think the ffa are wanting to keep certain players in the league, maybe making it more marketable, and can best do that by making these adjustments. Mv and sfc both have decent youngsters possibly worth more and foreigners / injury replacement players undervalued for the league and would like more cap to keep them. Clubs have lost players because of the cap, berisha, and has been ok in spreading the talent.  Reverting back to the old loan rules could really distort the league even more than raising the cap.k

Wonder if WSW can break even next year if crouds keep at the current level, rumours were that they were struggling to stay above the minimum salary cap this year. Don't tell Welnix that this is the way to create a sustainable team please.

I take it that 3 clubs are where they are financially because of their croud numbers?

Victory have huge crouds, so that makes them viable. WSW has good crouds but I assume the CWC monies will have caused them to break even. Adelaide have good crouds and haven't spent all that much on their side & might have a decent deal with Hindmarsh?

I'm surprised Adelaide broke even they were rumored to be in financial strife earlier in the year.

Had too much time on my hands so wrote why I believe the A-League is the future for New Zealand's club football. I am sure many will disagree but feel free to have a peek if you're at a loose end... :)

I agree. In an ideal world we would have additional franchises in Christchurch in Auckland. There just isn't a way to make the ABSP into a meaningful competition.
