Yeh the 'lil old Wellington Phoenix' thing was a wrong note.

The ego was fine while he was our coach! Super defensive interview. Not the straight up and down talk of before.

Agree with this. It sounded like he was reflecting on a 1000 to 1 season after it had finished, not with two rounds to go and a home finals game up for grabs. Every press conference he has done I've loved, they've always been long and fiery and passionate. Not this one. He seems checked out despite what he says

Agree 100% with this. As good as Rudan has been, he and the Nix haven't achieved anything of substance yet this year. Yes, there's been progress, but the context is this, Mark: you wanted to banish mediocrity from the Nix organisation - well, your comments here simply endorse it.

Agree too with others that club needs to act decisively this week. If there's any indication that senior players are no longer 'buying in', he needs to go, quickly. Whatever happens this season is less important than the long term.

Not a lot of sideline action for sure.

Phoenix till I get a better offer is always guna stick in the craw of Phoenix till I die.

We need a coach of Mark's quality who is the latter. Be honest f- loved the Nix team this year. Mostly down to Rudan.

But he hasn't even finished the job on one year. Conspiracy theorists would suggest that the friends who were telling him we weren't guna be part of the competition were actively working to make it so, in order to get him to a new club.

I guess most of the reactions are anger and grief from the fans and frustration at 1step forward and a 1 step and a half back.

I'm sad over this whole event. I like the guy, I like what he has done - on and off the field. There was a toxic culture of acceptance that has haunted the Nix since Ricki's last season. It's a shame because I see a project half completed and next season would have seen even more progress. The number of youngsters breaking into the team etc has been awesome. I want to be angry at the guy but I can't. Off the field, the players and club have been much more professional, much more positive, much more proactive, much more engaging.

What the club need to do now, if he really is going, is to appoint someone with the same working ethos. The desire to be number one and not settle for 6th. We'll need to replace the players that might leave, although I do have faith in Oli Sail to step up. He's done extremely well with his few chances.

This fudgeing licence bullshark and independant A League - yes/no/yes/no crap have really done my head in. The other A League clubs and the Nix should have planned and had the "new" league sorted since before last Christmas. If they want to expand the league then allow more teams in. You don't cut teams to expand. Yes Sky should be paying more. Now that they have lost Rugby, you can afford to front up with a lot more than they have been when it comes to football.

I was really enjoying this season until this Western Melbourne bullshark turned up. It has completely derailed our season. I hope they fold. Come back Victory, WSW, Sydney - all is forgiven. Western United are going to be the team to dislike with a passion.

Mark Rudan, Thanks for all that you have reorganised on and off the field. I just wish that the family had enjoyed Wellington as much as you did. You are either an Academy Award winning actor or you really were genuine. I think it is the latter. I will miss you.

I'm angry, sad, feeling helpless. It's like being 2 inches from achieving greatness and having someone snatch it from under your nose. That's my 2 cents worth on this subject.

Nope, completely different situation. Our owners are Wellingtonians who ae committed to the team and have invested in our success. Those investments have been longer term in academies etc and as you can see are actually paying fruit.

They're obviously struggling to invest big in the first team but even then remember at the start of the season we were taking to players like Eto'o and Martins and were in the hunt for a big name marquee.

Really? I didn't know that.

Still, it's arguably a better situation than ours. We could win the damn thing and still be thrown out at the end of next year the way things stand now. Obviously, we're all hoping (and owners working hard) for a different reality to emerge. But, it's a very fair reason to not sink further significant investment into club until that is resolved.

Rudan's family reasoning is fair enough, if a little surprising for a man in his chosen profession. The lack of investment one is just bullshark though IMHO, and shows a complete lack of understanding for his employer's position.

Irony, CCM get the shaft after Finishing bottom and we get the shaft because of Some leower league rednecks whom have no chance of ever getting into the A League have a beef with a New Zealand franchise being in there. It isn't just about the pitiful Sky money.

They probably wouldn't cut two teams at once you'd think. It's not an automatic relegation it's just there are provisions for relegation and one of them is three wooden spoons in a row. Ultimately if it gets to that the ffa makes the call.

It's a good piece by Voerman. I imagine Rudan will just lie about it all though when pushed on it or blame the owners. My respect for him is gone.  One thing I cannot do is blame them on this one. FFA and Rudan squarely to blame for this BS situation.

Regardless, tomorrow's presser will be really interesting.

It's potentially worse than that too. He probably hasn't been actively trying to recruit players for the Nix for next year and beyond. The signing announcements since close of Jan transfer window have all noticably been led by club, not the head coach.

If that WU announcement really is about Rudan, then his role for remainder of season at Nix has to be untenable, surely? Fine (#notfine) if it was after the Nix' season was closed, but that really would be poor form to announce it now. Rudan can say he's leaving tomorrow, again all good (#notallgood), but to officially sign on somewhere else, particularly an ALeague rival would be so sharkty that I don't have words for it.

Wouldnt it be nice if for once the Phoenix treated their fans with some respect and front footed an announcement.Instead as they normally do and let rumors fly for weeks with Dome and Morrison throwing smoke screens up.Grow some balls guys and tell the fans the truth.

You bag the fans for not turning up for games but the way you treat them at times leaves a lot to be desired.Yet still there is a hard core who will be there till the end.

If tomorrows announcement at Wankers United is Rudan or any of our players they should be sacked immediately and if thats not possible then they certainly shouldnt play for us again.

Hope Rudans new teams fan take note of how he feed us plenty of BS and they can expect the same..

Kurto, Williams & Burgess were all brought by Rudan to the club.

Kurto has been great, but Sail has a lot of promise (he was very impressive in that game at Newcastle), plus either which of 2 of NZ's better keepers in Marinovic & Gleeson are reasonable signing possibilities.

It's doubtful either Burgess or Williams would have come to the club without Rudan. However if he takes Krishna to WU or whoever, Nix fans/owners have a right to be angry.

Welnix really need to push hard with NLWG that any NZ based coach contenders, are only required to have identical quals to any Aussie. Even if the Nix exist beyond next season, any Australian gaffers will always be a high 'fly by night' risk. Esp the married ones.

I actually wonder what FIFA would make out of all of this. There's got to be some sort of ruling somewhere. I would laugh if West Melbourne or whatever we shall call them, are found to be breaking FIFA regulations. Player/manager poaching etc.

It's an enormous disadvantage to us. A local coach who might happily stay with the club has to get an expensive and time consuming qual that isn't even offered in Australasia.
