I wonder how that's being funded. Wouldn't it be great if we could get a half decent team to come down and play a couple of games against the Nix pre season - maybe in Wgton and then Auckland.

Even a decent Championship side with name recognition like Aston Villa or Sheffield United would probably draw decent crowds.

Wouldn't have star players, but shouldn't cost as much as an EPL side.

Villa would have to freedom-camper it, given the state of their finances.

Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

Rudan has enough clout to get Sydney United etc to visit. They, or South Melbourne, would be a quality opponent for our pre-season (timing of their season might be an issue). Much cheaper than EPL or La Ligua and not bad quality.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

getting good lower aussie league teams might be cheaper but surely the club can see the value in getting even a good championship side here?

NSW NPL season runs to 12 August, with finals series after that.

VIC NPL league runs through to 2 September.

DK spoke about us needed a much more intensive pre-season if we want to be competitive at the start of the season. Costs would be an issue but we really should head over to Sydney/Melbourne for a weeks camp and look to play two A-League teams and a NPL during midweek. We will always have to goto them, very unlikely an Aussie side would travel over here.

Auckland city would give them a good game

Auckland will rise once more

No idea what he's going to be like but thank god we have a coach and Greenie on-board.

Welcome.

Who have we got locally that could provide a decent pre-season workout? Auckland City? Team Wellington? Others?

Clearly you're not up with the state of the Championship. Villa have several star players with plenty of top league experience. Their squad's worth like £70m.

Or why not a league All Stars team? All the beast players form the league into one team would be a decent idea.

They were a just couple of names that sprang to mind that would have good name recognition in this part of the world. Okay, Villa, who are having money issues might be a bit expensive to bring down, but Sheffield United are one of the great old clubs of English football, have a huge fan base, get big crowds to their games, and have recently battled back into the Championship after a lengthy spell in League One. And they wouldn't be full of expensive players like a Villa, which might make them more affordable as a touring option.

Hah, yes, I saw them in Dunedin. My wife was working at A&E in Dunedin and stitched up a Sheffield player. Was given a club pin by on of the staff for helping.

Just found some of the stats from that tour. And good crowds to go with it.

Leeds would be a better target to bring, plus our (Leeds) newest manager is going to need a decent preseason to make it through the first few games without getting the sack!

To bo fair, both were highly ranked players once upon a time. Might wanna see Jedniak, John Terry (although he's leaving), Micah Richards though? Sure these players aren't the level of Messi or Ronaldo, but they were top level players who in most cases will have been remembered fondly by fans.

Definitely some good players, like Grealish who’s linked with a £40m move to Spurs, but wouldn’t say they have any household names in the squad (Terry would be great but he’s already gone). Would be awesome to see them down here as a football fan but their finances are in an absolute sharkhole and they might be liquidated yet :(

Maybe Rudan might go after John Terry although I hear he might be going to Derby County. Players wives are safe. I'm looking forward to seeing Rudan putting a few people in place. He comes across as someone whom won't take any crap.

So, surprise, surprise. Bosnich things signing Rudan is a great move for the coach and the club. Guess that kind of endorsement is an extra tick in the PLUS box.

Interesting to see what Bosnich the pundit has to say when the season starts, especially if we start winning games and tearing up the league.

What about: "These Kiwi boys are too good to lose. Give the Nix their extension, now... " ;)

Great appointment to the Phoenix.

The club reminds me of how the Kingz were 15 years ago, bleeding money and terrible on the field. The call went up "why aren't we developing our own young players, to hell with these Aussie players!". And you know what happened? It got (even) worse. The Kingz hired a no-name coach, fielded young local players who amounted to a bucket full of shark and the club became the Knights.

Getting Rudan might be the last throw of the dice, but what a throw it is - great aggressive move to get in a guy with contacts and know-how.

No wonder Greenacre made an easy choice to be assistant coach at the Nix when the head Gaffer at NZF is screaming

I think he possibly has dispensation since FFA haven't organised pro licence courses for some years and is booked in for when it is next scheduled.

Yip, this is correct. The Nix got dispensation since the course hasnt been run for ages and Greenie is booked on the next one.
