Looks very light weight to me. Think Merrick will play a 4-2-3-1 or variation there of. Fenton, Hernandez, Ifill behind a striker - need two ball winners who can get them the ball to sit in front of the back fou - of the current squad I'm guessing Manny and Lia but if what Ernie said is true and he wants two starting mids - it'll see Manny at rb and Lia on the pine.

that's an interesting formation. What then of the full backs as wingers talk? Risky with only a back four surely?

Bayern play a similar set up with fullbacks overlapping - guess it's a case of one goes and one stays - means out numbeing the opposition fullback and getting better delivery.

HARRY Kewell is on the verge of signing for Melbourne Heart.

In a move that would add spice to the cross-town rivalry with Kewell's former club Victory, the celebrated Australian player would bring Heart enormous on-field benefits and publicity.

But confusion surrounds the deal as a press conference for tomorrow has been called off.

The annual mid-year raid on the Hyundai A-League by Asian clubs is gathering momentum with championship-winners Bernie Ibini and Oliver Bozanic and Socceroos utility Mark Milligan all receiving lucrative offers in the last few days.

Bojic released, Ryan, Sainsbury, Bozanic and Ibini all linked for overseas moves and Zwaanswijk retiring. CCM could be really gutted this transfer window.

Kewell is an over rated has been - hasn't done sod all in a while and considering his reputation was disappointing for the Tards. After Colosimo you'd have thought the Heart would,ve learnt.

Reports that the Jets are interested in him also. Maybe he is buying time for a bigger offer. The Heart deal was at minimum wage, with loads of incentives.

Melbourne Heart’s aggressive off-season recruiting drive has been stepped up and the club are now targeting Premier League striker Grant Holt as a marquee signing.

A player who played almost every game last season, scored 8 goals, who is the captain and who is playing in the Premier League... will now wan't to move to the Heart...?

THE cashed-up resources of the Chinese Super League have lured Mariners striker Bernie Ibini, who has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Shanghai SIPG that will earn him several times his $100k deal with the title winners.

Though the Mariners said last night that no deal had been finalised, Ibini expects to depart shortly for a medical - landing Central Coast a $600,000 windfall for a player entering the last year of his contract and able to exit for free a year hence.

Ray Gatt @Gatty54

I don't blame Berine Ibini for going. $400k wage, a rent free apartment, his own personal driver....great for a one year deal.

Seems players love these personal drivers, maybe the Nix should look into that.

Plenty of kids in Christchurch on the giro that drive around doing fuck all other than acting like cocks. Offer to pay for their gas and a free set of tyres per month and get them to Wellington...

With Fulham signing Maarten Stekelenburg, I wonder where that leaves Mark Schwarzer? He'd obviously make a decent reserve keeper and probably warrant starting for one of the newly promoted sides, or even in the championship, but might be time to come back to Australia.

Permalink Permalink

He is pretty old isn't he? I wonder if he'll just retire in a year or so and not bother with playing A-League?

Stekelemburg was absolutely awful for Roma in the last two years and I highly doubt he will ever rise to the lofty status of GK of the vice-world champions (which won him the Roma contract in the first place)

Schwarzer said he would never return to the a-League, after the treatment John Aloisi got. He will probably pick up a gig in the Championship.

I guess it is down to not having an Aussie passport. After his current deal, he should be eligible for one. Maybe they he could go to the J or K-League.

If McBreen did get loaned out for 6 months, he wouldn't be back until the Jan transfer window. I don't think he would have played as much, with Simon & Duke on the books anyway.

Big news emerging with Melbourne Victory negotiating to sign Greek legend Giorgos Karagounis. Story on The Australian website soon

And Petratos is back in Aussie, has been invited to train with the Roar.

Permalink Permalink

Was Petratos the young next big thing in Aussie football, lively wide player??

If its the player i'm thinking of he'd defo be worth a punt. Reminded me of Marco, just not as likeable being  Aussie and all.

Gameiro also said he might be keen to hang around in the A League.

Not a big fan of his, but others were impressed.

Flores can be a primadonna, and nobody likes something that looks suspiciously like a dive, but if Flores suddenly expressed an unquenchable desire to play for Phoenix I would welcome him :-)
