Quite possibly.

It sounds like this was, again, a loan deal (for one year) and not a contract.

It’s understood that the Victory also want to sign 21-year-old midfielder Matthew Grimaldi, now a free agent after his club for the past two seasons, Western United, was excluded from the 2025-26 A-League season due to the ongoing uncertainty about the financially embattled club’s long-term future.

Grimaldi’s former United teammate, defender Tomoki Imai, is set to return home to Japan to continue his career in the J1 League.

Another ex-United player that’s now a free agent, 21-year-old winger Abel Walatee, is understood to be close to signing with Sydney FC, while Brisbane Roar could soon be the new home for former United midfielder Jordan Lauton.

The A-League transfer window closes on Monday, but former United players will be able to sign with clubs after the window’s closure due to their contracts being terminated with just cause.

Adelaide has teased one (probably Juan Muniz)
Sydney have teased one (probably Abel Walatee)
Roar have teased one (probably Jordan Lauton)
We have teased one (probably Daniel Edwards).

Wonder who James Dodd has heard?

With this new signing they probably don't need Mario B - but that would be cool for the league.
