Its starting to feel like the last dance at the disco for our own transfer dealings, but has any of the other teams got their full roster sorted yet?

Newcastle were sorted a week or two ago

Not really transfer speculation, but not sure where to put this. Serginho (Sergio) Van Dyk of Adelaide has decided that he is Indonesian, and the Indonesian FA are putting in the paperwork to FIFA in order for him to be available for selection for the ASEAN Championships in December. His mother is Indonesian. I read the article in Thai on the bus home, and will put in full in my Asian Football thread over the next week.

EDIT - Completed translation in other thread

In fact he had to travel there this week and miss a pre season game to get his papers in, so it is a serious undertaking by him

Shane Smeltz detransfers back officially, should be here for Aug 13

TWO-time A-League Golden Boot Shane Smeltz has confirmed he will make his return for Gold Coast United in Sunday's pre-season friendly against North Queensland Fury at Carrara Stadium after the disintegration of his short-lived move to Chinese outfit Shandong Luneng.

The New Zealand international refused to reveal the reasons for his controversial walkout on Shandong after just five days in the People's Republic, and insisted he is simply now looking forward to resuming his United career.

''I am happy to be back involved and just looking ahead to doing what I do best, which is score goals,'' he said.

''The episode won't affect me mentally at all. I am back in training and looking forward to playing against the Fury on Sunday.''

United CEO Clive Mensink insisted: ''There is no dispute with Shandong.

''We have retained Shane's international transfer certificate and we don't believe there are any ongoing issues. We have the support of the FFA in this.''

Mensink said neither the club, nor Shane, could say more because of ongoing 'commercial issues', which could not be divulged.

Smeltz, who has not played since last month's World Cup, at which he scored one and made one for the All Whites, added: ''My fitness is okay. I feel fresh and I take a lot of confidence from how I went in South Africa.''

Changes him from an overseas player, to an asian player, so helps his career prospects alot. I guess he will be looking for a rich arab club to buy him now. Gives Adelaide another overseas slot to use aswell.

[Edit: or not, seems Adelaide already have an asian player]

yeah 12 months, tore lateral ligaments and his knee capsule, badly. needs a knee reconstruction. I don't think we're going to see the same Archie when he comes back.

I'd laugh.
Then take the piss out of Kruse for being a little bitches bitch.
Then realise that he was actually farking good last season, so would somewhat retract the afformentioned laugh. Somewhat.
Victory likely to sign 24 year old Welsh winger Geoff Kellaway

http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/173021,victorys-welsh-wizard-winger.aspx
No way.

THE Geoff Kellway? Who hails from Aberystwyth Town?

The Aberystwyth Town whose biggest rivals, Carmarthen Town F.C. once gave rise to the night that is called The Welome back Guppy, which is the phrase that Carmarthen Town AFC fans called to welcome Cult Hero Craig Hughes back to Richmond Park where there was a massive crowd of over 900 spectators. During the game there were events in the Clay Shaw Butler Stand at the end of the game a Football Thugz or in term Hooligans chased Aberystwyth Town FC around the ground and into the car park.

Epic club. Must have been an epic night. Title contending signing if I ever saw one.

Epic.

Latest is that he is hoping to be back before Xmas, maybe even November, but then he has always been an optimist in his thinking

Anyone heard about fury making late signings? Because i believe yesterday they only had 19 registered players so wondering what will happen or if they signed someone up last night?

Don't think they made it. So some sort of fine for them. But they are run by the FFA so it makes it sort of interesting...

..if the FFA own the Fury then I'd be surprised if it's more than just a "please explain"
Permalink Permalink
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
which then will set up a precedent that teams can have less than 20 if they really have no choice.

Its gonna be very interesting to see how things go. Fine themselves effectively?
Or  let teams in years coming use this as the benchmark

He could turn out alright. I like having current internationals in the league, even if it's Uganda, Indonesia or Malta.

If Gold Coast United do manage to sign Gomes I'll be over the moon.  I've been a fan of that man for years and would love to see him play live, even for the wrong team.

Nuno Gomes, yes please. Don't think it'll happen though.

I'd love for him to come to Welly, but really don't want him playing for an A-League rival.

So, that's Pires, Crespo, Gomes... yet they have all the import spots locked up and had signed MacAllister but it fell through.  Pardon me if I'm cynical.

When does NZFC start though? Because there is that one month stand down thing. And any decent NZ gk would be on the books of an NZFC club you'd think?

You'd think Ernie Merrick might be tempted to replace one 'itch' with another. Petkovic is an accident waiting to happen.

So it's an itch worth scratching?

Coey Turipa isn't. Most likely the starting keeper for the U-20 side.
