There's been so much footy on since March and more to come, and yet this feels like such a long off-season...

Preferably in the pre-season. Auckland doesn't deserve competitive football....yet.

I think we should have one game at the Basin Reserve each year, in the middle of summer. Imagine the atmosphere.

At Baypark? Ring of Dirt V2.

Would be nice, but not the best stadium for it. Great in terms of parking, and imbibe is a pretty good pub that'd do well for pre-match fizzies. Certainly a bigger population - 5th biggest conurbation in the country, close to Rotorua, Hamilton and Auckland, + summer influx, and no problem of "scheduling a match in a university town during uni holidays". But yeah, race track and potential chicken wire.

I still say Christchurch and Napier.

Golf trip when?. Havent playedin 3 years. Fixtures due any day now just finalising times.

Some hints::

1. Members will be happy

2. First game of the season we will play a certain style "on the break"

3. First home game against the team we didnt lose to last year

Didn't you win a golf thing in the apprentice?
Topical.. See what I did there?

A bye first round would majorly suck but I guess then we get it out of the way early :p

Yeah, but won't there be three byes? As bye is effectively a team in the draw. Man that sucks, bring on West Sydney next year.

Since we have the most players at the World Cup, I guess it kinda makes sense for us to have it first, more time to recover etc

He's pissed because Duncan Oughton (right) isn't going to the world cup and Jeremy Christie (left) is.
He should let it go.

Nooooooo. The Basin is sh*t for football. Don't forget the playing area is a lot bigger than the RoF. You're miles from the action. If it rains most of the crowd gets soaked. The only atmosphere at the cricket is on the bank and even that's massively over-rated.

Basin doesn't meet the requirements to be a A-league venue (i.e. no lights). So unlikely.

hmmm you guys might be right, in my visualisation the benefit of the basin is that you are very close to the action, but I haven't actually been to a football match there since Chatham Cup final Miramar vs Wellington United back in the day.

Even at ROF I feel like I'm being held back from the action around the halfway line (that's where I like to go) although you are much closer to the field of play if you go to one of the corners, ie Yellow Fever zone.

I'm really looking forward to catching a game at Melbourne Heart's new 'rectangular stadium.' It is purpose built for football so the crowd gooes all the way down to the touchline. There is even talk of creating standing room terraces behind either goal. Sweet.

Perth Glory v NQ Fury on Friday Night
Newcastle v Adelaide on Friday Night

Sydney FC v Melbourne Victory on Saturday
Queensland v Gold Coast

Melbourne Heart v Central Coast Mariner

Looks like Nux have the bye. Wish we had an away game week 1.

Any Pre-season game in Wellington on the weekend of July 31st Tony...

Think fixtures come out Monday.

No argument from me, but I wondered what the capacity of the place was - surely on that single metric it isn't big enough is it?

Let alone how rubbish cricket venues are for football generally, with all spectators being a long way from the pitch - Westpac Stadium included.

Think I saw about 15k crammed in there once for an ODI, but it was a pretty tight squeeze.

15k? Wow. I would have guessed a third of that. It's bigger than it looks - but I've only been around it never inside!

It's now past 9am in Australia.... shouldn't the fixures be out?

It's not unusal to have around 10k for the bigger tests (Aus, England) even these days. You can fit quite a few people on the bank if you really wanted to.

But as a football venue it's pretty bad.
