I disagree. I think it's going to be fun.

I often go to Napier to watch the U19s. Now I can watch the Phoenix as well. Win.

Sounds like we'll arrange a Fever Bus up/back Sunday/Monday. And a Fever Hotel has already been reserved. Easy.

Granted it might be tough for a few U19 teams who'll find it more difficult than usual to get accom for a whole team.

Wait and see

You do wonder just how serious the FFA are about us as not for the first time we have been royally screwed when it comes to draw, and yet the club seem satisfied.Go figure. Does seem like they dont really give a shit about us,is going to be very interesting to see what season pass prices look like and if they try and double dip again with club membership.

Can fully understand why you're mad at this statement. But to be fair, Dome is in a tough position here. If he goes off on one publicly  it will be picked up in the media. Negatively attention isn't any good. He pretty much has to play a straight bat.  Having said that he probably should have said something like 'it's not perfect and we didn't all the preferences we were after"
Privately I'm sure he has gone to FFA/Fox and told them the Phoenix's issues.

No he should have sorted it before they settled on a crap draw.
Two of those Sat games won't even be in Welli - so fan feedback fail.

How much say do you think the phoenix have? In the end FFA and Fox pull the strings and make the final decisions.

FFA must be in gaga land if they think our game on a sunday nite is going to attract a TV audience over there, probably be as big as possible crowd which will be small.

Then again will give Welnix an excuse to take even more games away from us.

Just console yourself that they did it for Wellington.

Not sure why Dome cant say what he thinks,so bloody what if it attracts media attention. We have been screwed by the draw masters so why shouldnt our boss say so.Or are they actually happy with it.

I for one am not looking forward to the season starting you get one game then fuck all.Sadly at that time of year i have stuff all chance of making home away games.Frankly had hoped to make a couple of away games this season but will use the money instead on doing something else just cant be arsed travelling to Oz this season. After the struggles of last season its going to take a big effort to get motivated for this season very disappointed at the shafting we have got.

It's not arse-kissing, it's understanding that Dome needs to keep what is best for the club when he does things. Do you honestly think the FFA would be okay with Dome ranting to the media about how shit the draw is? They won't. I'm very confident that he will let the FFA know that the Phoenix are hugely disappointed in the draw in private, which is where these discussions need to take place.

In saying that, I'm a bit confused over his statement. Would have been much better to say something like 2B suggested.

I've just realised that if the WC play-off game in November is not in Wellington then Wgtn footy fans will be expected to travel away three times in four weeks.

Oct 27 - Nix in Napier

Nov 9 - Nix in some other bumfuck town yet to be decided

Nov 19 - WC play-off venue tbd

Jesus not only wept he was fucking broke at the end of all that.

If ever there was a time that Yellow Fever needs to publicly tell the club that they are absolutely shafting the fans, this is it.  YF represents the fans and I think this is one of those times.  I'm not in Wellington but I feel very sorry for you guys, we all know that Sunday 7pm is worse than the graveyard slot - may as well play at 3pm Tuesday.

Can anyone explain to me what David Dome does?  Because he seems to be pretty ineffective

I don't think the draw is the club's fault. They will be as gutted as anyone because they will already know it's going to have a negative impact on crowds. It is a concern that they apparently had very little influence over the outcome though.

It's the 3 'home away from home' games that they should cop some flak over. It's outrageous that they are doing this in the context of an already fucked up draw. I seriously hope that now the draw's out they reconsider keeping at least one of those games Wellington. In fact I'm going to send another angry tweet about it right now!

as a whole the WElnix team has been ineffective in winning anything for the wellington fan base, GM complains that fans don't turn up, he's increditbly vocal about taking the team on tour to drum up support and then the FFA screw the team out of any chance of getting decent numbers through the gate with 3 7pm sunday games, a hoard of home games around xmas - have we heard anything like a complaint or any noise from GM or the Welnix team - nope, so we can only assume that they are "happy" with the arrangement. Pity the fans aren't.

Napier is a port.

As in the song:

"We love the 'roro, Ngaruroro,

Flowing from Kaweka down to Highway Two,

Passing through Fernhill, Hastings and Clive,

160 k's, but it gets there somehow, OI.

Hawkes Bay's a region and Napier is a port,

but 'Roro is the river, that we all support."

what were the comments? as the people like myself whining won't be the ones not attending games. We will be the only ones there at the 7pm Sunday. The concern is crap crowd, crap atmosphere, and zero $ through the turnstiles for the club to be profitable. Also for me the fact that the 3k season ticket holders will battle to find accom in Napier. Are we meant to be doing cartwheels over this? Pull your head in.

The club would say this themselves if it wasn't going to turn the punters away even more

Wow that was quite aggressive. He did get his numbers wrong too yeah? Only 2 sunday games at 7pm? Didn't mention the 7 round break from the ROF at the start which is my concern. I would've thought a strong start to the season at home would be the best way to pull crowds.

Personally I am not that bothered about the 7pm Sunday games - I actually think that is a great time to host football in Wellington (spend the morning/early afternoon with the missus, spend the afternoon in the pub) but I fully appreciate that it is very difficult for families and that will have a (massively) adverse affect on our crowds.  I guess it is not really the clubs fault, although I would like to know what they have actually said to the FFA before and after the draw was confirmed. It is no good us just assuming that we forceably stated what we wanted, and then (privately) made it clear we were very unhappy with how it panned out - we need to know how these conversations went down.

The 3 games outside of Wellington are what really fuck me off.  I would really love the club to come out and explain why they think this a great idea, especially with the timings of these games.

Bollocks, just realised I am away for the first game of the season as well.  I will probably get to the other "home" games, but with leaving here in Feb next year I will likely get to see us play 6 times in Wellington.

Meh, might just get a Wellington Lions season ticket and throw my energy into that.

I think the process goes...

1) Club develops preferences (days, locations etc)

2) FFA develop draft

3) Clubs comments

4) FFA revise draft

5) FOX and FFA finalise.

not 100% on that.
