Has to be a Kiwi or an Ausy, preferably a CB or a Striker or a Goal scoring CB...

.... Is Tommy Smith still bench warming for Ipswitch Town?

The question is who is still available at the moment and who could make a positive contribution to the team? I would prefer a striker. I don't think Brockie up front is going to cut the mustard this season.

Even though he's gone, he still contributes to the salary cap no?

There aren't any established Australasian strikers out there that are out of contract, unless Killen still wants to play professional football. It would have to be a young Aussie in Europe on loan, or someone out of the ASB or state leagues. Someone like Matt Thurtell would be interesting; very strong record in the Queensland league and still young (22).

Depends what the terms of the  termination agreement is. Any payout would be included.

Maybe Marco is being pushed out of club in Germany and we have dropped Caira to make Rojas domestic marquee...? Here's hoping.

Roar have had him on trial the last couple months and haven't signed him.

Hasn't Thurtell had a trial here?

I think it's fair to say that they've got more depth in the out and out striker department than we do, plus keeping someone on trial for that long suggests that they think he might be close to making the jump.

Is Thurtell an upgrade on Brockie? While Brockie is not an out an out striker, he has played 120 odd games with a goal every 3.5 games plus 40 odd internationals.

Roar have been standard bearers for a while so I think if he is not good enough for them, let's keep our standards high too.

Try find another Corey Gameiro. Scout around for Aussies overseas in a similar situation to what Corey was in and take a chance.

Odd to let Reece go when he has had a full pre-season with us.

Wonder if it's the panic button being hit.

It's been predicted a few times on here and is not surprising - he came here because he wanted game time. I'm guessing he would have asked to be released as much as we would want to free up the squad space.

You want to sign players that will make a difference right?

Yup. We panicked so hard we released man number 23 in the squad to use his massive cap hold to find a player that will make a difference.

He is so shit. He missed one at Westpac that even Helen Keller would've put away.

I understand that Reece was the one who asked for it.

Doesn't surprise me. He came here for game time and won't get it now, so makes sense he would look elsewhere.

Wish we'd just chuck Ifill up front if the Kenny out rumours are to be true. Can't go any worse than the other not a strikers.

The reality is, IF, Ifill gets back on the field, he is going to have to sort of reinvent himself.  He had largely lost what pace he had before the achillies injury and that rupture isn't going to make him any quicker.

I would think his days as a wide attacker are over he may need to look at playing in a "number 10"  role.

A lot of his game was turning opponents inside out. Coming back from an injury like that, he may not be able to turn so well.

I think we were starting to see that before his injury.  I thought his ball distribution was pretty blimmin ace.

Ifill never really relied on a whole lot of pace with us, I felt - maybe he did during his Millwall days.

Still a long way to go for him though, needs to get his fitness back. Hope he does it.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but did anyone see that Chris Killen is now a Free Agent?

Would could it hurt to throw him up front on a short term contract? Albeit just turned 33 last month. Not quite stylistically the player Ernie would ideally want but is an ACTUAL striker. Surely can't be any less mobile than Brockie and might actually be there for a few tap in's up front to help Burns from the bench.

Think he is focussing more on the other side of his career. Also he has not played in how long and would not be match fit. It also does not send a great message to Boyd whom the Phoenix have put a lot of work in. "Yes you are the future but we have this former AW whom has not played in a year and is 33 that we think will do better"

Boyd isn't a central striker for me. His goal scoring record has hardly been impressive at any level. In the past when I have brought up Fallon/Killen the general consensus has been that they aren't good enough. Of course, we currently have no visa spots left and there aren't many quality Australian/New Zealand strikers going around. If we want to sign another striker you are probably looking at Killen
