the season doesn't start for over 3 months.

People generally buy season tickets closer to the start of the season. So it makes sense to save a lot of the marketing push for that period.

The communications for renewals have been good (even if ticketek are useless).

All true. I just don't think we ever push the pricing enough - the main point being a season pass will get you into all games for under $20 or thereabouts- a relative bargain. Most people I tell of the price are surprised.

Without a reasonable effort, it's quite tricky to get to all the prices and to a newbies, that table with all the options could be somewhat confusing.

As an aside, due to the number of games out of Welly + a couple I know I'll miss, it's probably a Nix Six for me this year.

The club should offer access to British & Irish Lions tickets, that'd give m/ships a good boost.

Not sure if serious.

Same old ticketec, always...............

Well, tried to renew my Foundation Membership (online for a laugh) only to be told that tickets not available to General Public yet. Oh well, I'll phone the hotline which is the way to do things. At least it will cost me NIX due to the Huawei P9 I bought at the weekend.

I've got a big fat rates bill sitting just above the membership in the must pay list.

When do we have to resub by to guarantee we hold our seats?

On site it says July 31st, but given previous experience, you are highly likely to keep your seat so long as you purchase before start of season (Say 2-3 weeks out)

Considering the required metrics, are the club really doing enough to push memberships? I have seen very little publicity.

Doesn't help that the online renewal system doesn't work for some people. I tried to renew straight away but the login they sent me didn't work, neither did last season's and an email sent to them about the login issue came back undelivered several days later. Now with other things to pay for first I haven't had the energy to chase it up further yet. Might be easiest to just do it in person at the Family day assuming they do that again.

Out of curiosity,  what is included in the official membership number? Would Northern and NSW memberships count towards the total members (as in, the figure that FFA/the website would use)?

yes, every one of the options is included in the total members count. It's funny that the FFA make a big deal about membership numbers for their metrics but don't actually seem to care if the numbers are inflated by expanding the definition of what a member is. As far as I am aware all the other clubs do similar things with their membership numbers too

But what is a member? A member is someone who hold a membership. That does not just mean a season ticket holder. This is more important for the Nix than any other team, because I would hazard a guess to say we have the highest ratio of non-ticketed members, to total members. And I, personally, would be outraged if I found out I didn't count towards the total membership count (I'm an out-of-Towner holding a single-ticket club membership). A Northern or NSW member is a member who holds a ticket to all the Northern/NSW games.

Also, the main reason, I reckon, that out-of-Towners buy club memberships is to count towards the 'metrics' That's what I did, anyway (I don't care about no silly hat, and the single ticket doesn't change much, I got to 2-3 games a season anyway).

If the other clubs want to do a similar thing, good on 'em. But the difference is, almost all Manchester City or Smurf members live in their respective cities, and hold memberships that reflect that. But Phoenix fans are everywhere in NZ (although very concentrated in Welly). Thus, the club must have membership options to accommodate all fans.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend any out of town members. I just think it's a BS metric because it doesn't really tell you anything about the club's commercial value or anything. In Australia it might be different because a lot of sports clubs (NRL and AFL at least) have memberships which give you access to clubrooms and are more like Cossie clubs here, but in NZ we don't really do that. Whether the Nix have 3000 members or 5000 members doesn't actually translate to any greater commercial exposure for the league or anything like that, if those extra 2000 were already engaged and going to go to a game or two anyway, as far as I can tell.

The Metric includes a quantifiable number of fans financially invested in the club.  When you go to sponsors etc. if you have a large number of people so dedicated they give your club money that's a good number to show and use.

If we had 20,000 out of town memberships that would show the Nix stretch beyond wellington which would look good for getting money from Carlsberg.

the BS members are the ones supposedly given away by clubs to kids that count as a comparison to other clubs members.  There is duging the numbers but allowing out of towners to have club memberships is only good, also the NRL does it too.

Wouldnt think you have any need to apologize Conan, the whole membership thing is a crock of shark anyway. All good that out of towners want to be club member. But come on what use is it at all if we have say 25000 members yet still cant get 10000 to a game at the stadium.

Sadly for me the club hasnt shown me stuff all for my loyalty over the years only the prospect of an ever increasing number of games out of town.Sadly can see my proud attendance record taking a hit this season.

The reason member counts are promoted is both to try and ramp up commercial value, but also to try and show off the amount of supporters the club has. The problem is, it doesn't help the latter case that NZers don't do memberships. I know several Nix fans in Jafaville who are totally apathetic about memberships, and this is not an isolated case.

I do think the weather is a key reason why season memberships have never taken off here, but have in Australia.

It's easy to commit to a season worth of games when you know 90% of them will be sunny. Buy a membership in NZ and you risk most games being sharke weather. (And yeah yeah 'real' fans turn up no matter the weather blah blah insert elitist bs here)

Well, that wasn't the original meaning behind that comment. It was a joke, given as a false reason as to why I don't live in Wellington.

I should really check my posts for unfortunate double meanings.

Holy shark pet memberships are beyond awful.

But the intent of my post is clear, that the members who don't attend games due to geographical location have value to the club via the membership fee and the games they watch via broadcaster and to sponsors so I'm going to keep seeing them as valuable members to the club.

I don't disagree that geographically dispersed members are valuable to the club.

The point I was trying to make was that the FFA were banging on about how our membership numbers were much lower than other clubs and how we need to improve but that membership numbers by themselves aren't a useful gauge of anything. Case in point is the introduction of new membership categories like the NSW or northern options - if we get an extra 500 members for example we can say that we've had a 10% increase in members, but if every one of those new members was already engaged with the club and attending games then nothing has fundamentally changed at a commercial level. You've just changed the label for a group of fans who already existed. Likewise, comparing membership numbers across the league doesn't tell you anything if membership categories vary wildly.

What I'm saying is that it makes it a skooch more quantifiable.

So for an example if we get 5K members across Aus thanks to these new memberships, then that can help prove value to the club being in the league in Australia.

Shark crowd attendance numbers aren't 100% accurate as I have seen people scan multiple tickets going into Nix games to help our Metrics, creative accounting can make things financially look different to what actually happens as well, so if you break any metric down and investigate too hard then no numbers are 100% useful on their own.  But they need something.

Hell the FFA may be happy if we sell 10k cat memberships (don't worry Gareth, they would be outside of Wellington)

Fair enough I guess.

I'm just bitter that the FFA ignored the most significant metric, which was financially stable owners who wanted to commit long term. That says more about the health of an A League franchise than the number of members does

AFL memberships are a crock of sharke!

http://www.aflonline.com.au/afl-news/current-afl-m...

If you look at average attendances the figures dont really match up in many cases:

http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/attendances

The main reason the majority of people buy AFL memberships is to have a chance at Grand Final tickets should their club feature in one. Check Collingwoods 2015 vs 2016 membership numbers for proof...

I normally get a club membership. With YF concession season tickets at $45 though it worked out cheaper for me to just get that this season.

Back on topic - looks like I'm calling Brenda on Monday.

Gripes

 - Got my "Upgrade Your Flexi-Six Pass" email from David (Flexi 6 bought in 2013/14, season ticket holder last season)

- email specifies "don't use email to login" yet link to ticket page specifically requires this - cue multiple failed login attempts.

- Tried to add my son's name to 2nd ticket (as I did last year), no go.

- Am going for the direct debit installment option this season, but payment not going through. Contacted bank, who tell me the website is trying to taking the full amount (when transaction is going through: 5 attempts; 2 declines, 3 x nothing happened). Lucky I deliberately only had the correct 1st installment amount in my online shopping account, or my other bills might not have got paid.

All in all, this process is making the negotiations I had with the wife to get the ticket in the first place "for my son", look like a cakewalk :)
