The perfect signing would be Te Atawhai Hudson-Whiongi. Since riera left when badly need a defensive mid. Te Atawhai would be cheap and would not take up an oversea spot. He did well in the OFC nations cup and the OFC champions league.

Even with Riera gone DM is still probably the position where our squad is least in need of cover. A-Rod and Lia are obviously the main options, with Roly, Ridenton, and Rufer (if he's re-signed, which I think he will be) all options as well. Compare to CB, where we have Dura and Fox and no one else.
Not saying that TAHW isn't decent but I don't think we badly need a defensive mid. Centre back, fullback, and striker are all positions where we need more cover at the moment.

Recommended transfers:
ST: hal robson-kanu. He played at the euros and scored 2 goals and was one of wales outstanding performed but was released by Reading last season, he would tear the A league up.
RB: Adrian Mariappa. BPL quality and was released last season by Crystal Palace would be another quality free signing.
CB: Martín Caceres. Last played for Juventus but the was released yet again another quality free signing.

McGlinchey played left wing for the whole of last season, Lia is getting old and it would be great to get a young guy in because the phoenix have a lot of older players. Rodriguez isn't even the beast of players and is not a CDM.
