It was a friendly and it was free to get in, but I want my money back. Dunno what the players made of it, but it was a complete non event for the spectator. Football used to be about attacking and passing forward, Ive never seen such aimless dross in my life as was dished up tonight. After Rossi's departure it got even worse, the Phoenix stopped trying and Wests put on their second team, who didnt want to attack either. I was in the pub well before the end.

What else did you expect to happen? It's preseason for a reason...

so don't you try and score in pre-season then?

Not necessarily no.  It depends on what they were trying to achieve.

You're right. Maybe the Goal was-... get a defender sent off, then see if we can keep a clean sheet.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

I know this is all about the Nix pre-season, but there's been a distinct lack of kudos for Edge's young Wests teams for their performance last night. I haven't seen a team sheet but I believe their average age is under 20, made up of mostly or entirely Kiwis, playing against full time professionals.

So kudos to the players, coaches, and club and academy structure that supports this project. Good on them.

Pretty average I thought. Gave the ball away far too often. Didn't look very comfortable on the ball.

Looked solidly ISPS Handa Premiership quality.

Lol. New boss in town. He'd better pull finger fast.

Well exactly, what were they trying to achieve? Not to make me come back again or buy a season ticket, thats for sure.

I read somewhere the list of players unavailable due to injury is crazy for this time of the season. Some from last season (McGarry, Riddenton - are these major injuries?), plus others. Anyone got a link to that article or the full current injury list?

Not in a friendly against a club side they'll be looking at getting rid of some cob webs for a start, some people in that team have just been together for a coke of days.

It's basically a training session for the Nix. What they could have been trying to achieve could have been keeping the team shape, or holding possession, or trying new combinations of players, or whatever else the coach wants to focus on. Or, as Ryan said, they might just be trying to blow out the cobwebs and get back up to full match fitness without going too hard too early and getting injured

There has been plenty of talk about how good they are in Chatham Cup, Youth development and Central league threads so to many of us it wasn't a surprise.

How long is the highlights package... or was there not enough "quality" footage for it?

Only confirmed game is the Kapiti one at the moment but you would expect one or two games against Central league teams before then

Guessing they'll be using it as an opportunity to work on their lineup and game plan for international windows.
