Hmmm 8 concerts in 18 years does not equate to 4 per year. If those idiots had done it right we could've had Springsteen here. We have missed out on many top acts that the Westpac Stadium Trust couldve and shouldve attracted here.

To me that stadium forecast from 1996/7 is fine really. I don't think their bad estimates could have been prevented. Shell Cup was drawing large crowds at the basin in the early/mid-nineties when i was going a lot as a youngster - i used to quite often climb and sit in the trees on the bank because the bank was so packed. At a guess I'd say I was in 8k-ish crowds at the basin quite often. In any case it only says one game every 2nd year so they must only be referring to a play-off?

The rugby crowds are pretty much spot on with what we saw in the period 2000 - 2005, before it started dropping. I went to plenty of those games too. Sell-outs were common for the crusaders/blues/brumbies games in particular.

And to be fair the general consensus back then was that we would get a few concerts each year. That was one of the main whinges from the thorndon nimbys before it was built - potentially lots of concerts going late into the night. In fact didn't those nimbys somehow impact the concerts we were able to get here? There were other reasons we didn't get them as well, but when the stadium was planned they did fully expect 4+ per year I believe. Plus as someone else posted, the crowds for the concerts when we did get them were always bigger than 25k.

A test cricket match in the RoF? Talk about a terrible idea.

I see some on here keep banging on about NIMBYs. Well and good but the nay-sayers are organised and making submissions to the council as well as doing some decent lobbying.

This. I've made one and everyone else should too. And if everyone here did we could probably out number the nimbys

Unbelievable that the stadium claims there are less stadium acts touring.  Since arriving in Wellington in 2008 I've seen U2, Coldplay and Springsteen in Auckland. Any of those 3 could've filled the stadium at least once.  The U2 tour was even called the 360 tour and the stadium would've been an ideal venue for it, somehow they missed out though.

3 years now since a concert at the stadium?  How can a stadium like Mt Smart get gigs that Westpac cannot?

LOL....pre match there was a film crew out near the players entrance....the two guys had official Hyundai press bibs on. One of the Red badge goons dashed over and demanded to see their ID(which they had), was probably going to evict them as pitch invaders. The camera man gave him a "you piece of shit" stare.

So they confiscated the YF Belgium flag?  Also a couple of games ago two guys hung a white and red English flag with WHFC writing??? over the railing...its the sort of flag you see in lots of stadiums around the world and will see dozens of them at the WC. Within 10 seconds 3 Redbadge goons were on them and it was taken down. Just another fun day at the ROF !!!!!!

THe pitch was crap....there were some bad crosses passes but quite a few times the ball bobbled all over the place.....Carlos's skied cross was a good example of the ball bouncing all over the place.

Isn't the flag police thing actually a FFA rule, not a stadium rule? I understand it's policed pretty strictly across the whole league as part of the attempt to cut all ties to the bad old days of ethnic violence in the NSL.

Update from those opposing the stadium idea.

The next week is our last opportunity to influence our councillors before they decide whether to put the stadium proposal into this year’s Annual Plan. Important dates are as follows:

Friday 14 March:Papers for the 18thMarch Council meeting will be posted on the Council website. These will include the Council CEO Tony Stallinger’s recommendation about the stadium.

Saturday 15 March, 11am-2pm:Concerned residents are welcome at the Petone Community House to discuss their response to the information we have from Friday. Please come along if you’d like to share ideas about your feedback to the council on the stadium.

Monday 17 March, 7pm at the Petone Rugby Clubrooms, Udy St:The Petone Community Board is holding a public meeting in which Community Facilities Trust chair Alister Skene will present the CFT’s stadium proposal and answer residents’ questions.

Tuesday 18 March, 5.30pm, in the Council Chambers:Hutt City Council  meeting, which will include a decision about whether the stadium proposal will go into this year’s Draft Annual Plan. If it does, consultation with residents will be through the Annual Plan summary, distributed in the Hutt News in mid-April with a questionnaire to answer. Please come along if you are free, as numbers show the Council that we care about this issue.

What can we do now?

·  Keep contacting Councillors to let them know your views on the proposal. Their phone numbers and emails are on the HCC website.

·  Respond to the CFT’s request for feedback in the Hutt News insert (attached here for those who like us did not get it). Although they do not make the decisions from now on, it’s important they hear from those who are against the stadium, so they can’t say there has been no negative feedback.

·  You may also wish to let Community Board members know your views so they have something to take to the Council.

·  Let your neighbours, friends and family know what is happening and how important it is to have their say. Whatever people’s views are, an issue for everyone is the short time period to have a decent debate.

If the stadium is included in the Annual Plan, the public consultation will be from 15 April to 16 May. We’ll contact you again with any more details.

FYI:
The two guys were part of group, of about fifteen , from a Spurs supporters group. From Auckland I think. They were asked to take the flag down by security. They were reluctant to do so and the security had to get someone 'from the office' to come and explain why to them.
At the time they had originally hung it they'd had it pointed out to them, by fans nearby, that it would be taken down.

Surely if they are going to ban national flags they should be sticking to their own rule and banning people wearing national team jersey's from entering too.

I read the rule to say the flag has to be 'offensive'? Surely a Belgian flag doesn't fall into that category?

Nah there is definitely a national flag rule, and it's been around for ages. But it's there to address is fan-based racism, not fans supporting a foreign player on their team.

I get fired up because it's a stupid rule and none of the security or match day staff can explain it, or tell me why a Belgian flag is banned except that "it's against the rules".

On top of that, we have other national flags in our arsenal and they never even notice them because they are just black/yellow. So clearly nobody actually cares or there would be complaints about our other national flags.

Added to that the fact that one of the Phoenix owners was super-keen for us to get these fucking flags and it all adds up to a situation that makes me angry.

In fact, I'm going to email them right now. Grrrr.

Watching the sydney derby I was having a laugh - CCM security making one guy put his shirt on because that's the rules, and yet RBB do it in numbers and security don't do sh*te.

So they're basically saying, act like a big huge pack of rabid dogs and we'll do nothing, but just be one small friendly dog and we'll neuter the cr*p out of you.

Really did look bad. Are the grounds staff doing anything other than just cutting it and doing the markings? The area in front f the Tunnel still looks like shit a month after the sevens and we have only had two games and the Canes one.  I have not seen it look worse. Do they have the shits at the talk of us moving?

Thanks for that info
But a white flag with a red cross and big letters across it is NOT the flag of any nation. Its the St George flag and is not a national flag as England is not a nation and anyway that flag was so altered that it did not really resemble the normal St George flag. The Red badge guys could have easily left it alone...is it the end of civilisation if some one strings up a an inoffensive piece of material.

I really struggle to accept what goes on in the stadium. I know some of it is FFA stuff but you get the feeling that the whole point of the running of the stadium is to squeeze any enjoyment out of the fans experiance.

I carry a small bag to the game( about the size of a small Ipad) I have taken this bag into the cricket at the Basin, To the Nix game at Eden park, to AMI Stadium in Chch...last winter I took that bag into football games in London and  on the Continent. The ONLY time I have ever been stopped and had that bag searched is EVERY ferkin time I go to Westpac.

The whole vibe at Westpac is negative.

Needs less rules and more fun.

Less of telling us what you can't do, and more of telling us what we can do.

I did catch myself for the first time standing at westpac stadium thinking how much better a new stadium might be, up until then I've always just accepted the stadium as what it is.

Red Badge are useless. I was walking up from the car park once sipping a can of red bull, was told by the first RB goon i saw that i had to throw it away in the bin he was standing next to. I told him im waiting for a friend, and will no doubt have it finished by the time i get to the gate where i will then be told to bin the can, which i will. He said 'no its against the rules, you cant drink out here' (on the concourse) and i had to bin it. I said 'nah il throw it out over there'... this is when he tried grabbing it off me. I told him to get fucked, he radioed is other goons ... i did not get to see cricket that day. I made complaints to the stadium, red badge, and NZ cricket - never heard a reply from any of the 3.

I don't know why Red Badge keeps hiring obese people, since when did being fat mean that someone is intimidating? We aren't cats or those lizards.

I saw them grab a kid in a headlock and drag him by his head off the concourse once I think just for talking back. Could cause serious damage doing that sort of thing.
