Memorial Park would be a disaster. Traffic was bad enough when a couple of hundred went there for a Nix preseason game.

I still think the people behind the stadium are missing out by being so quiet. They need to front foot this issue by issue. Bombard with a PR campaign that one day has Petone Rugby syaing nice things. 3 or 4 days later the PWMC, 3 or 4 days later the Jackson St merchants.
Then somethnin showing the stadium plan with a clear image of the remaining (ample) space being used by Children and people walking dogs, and touch players.
Maybe they should engage me a a PR consultant for the two years and $200k per annum.

The environmental aspects of the stadium include - The stadium roof has a sedum roof blanket, a living roof that provides a natural air filtration system. solar panelson the roof serve the community changing areas and public toilets hot water storage cylinders. The roof is supported by treated Glulam timber beams. Water recyclingsystem which serves the toilets within the clubhouse. Rain water is collected in the two large ponds at the north end of the stadium grounds. Underfloor heating on both levels of the clubhouse. Low energy lighting. Increased fabric insulation to give the clubhouse better thermal retention and efficiency. Condensing boilers to provide a more energy efficient system. Also excavated earth was reused for landscaping the external courtyard areas around the stadium.[2]"

The more I think about it though, the more I reckon the whole "green stadium" idea should be explored. Make a big deal out of all the ecofriendly features, integrate it into public recreational space around there, use recycled material where possible, and potentially save money on operating costs down the road by building in energy saving features etc. Obviously our Petone ground would have to be substantially bigger than Princes Park but 7 million pounds for that stadium about 10 years ago still seems cheap - it doesn't seem like the cost of building like that would be that prohibitive.
