Plus general life rules that apply outside of the stadium as well as in it, obviously :p

Will add:

c) don't break the law

But that's fairly obvious

too right, why cant we just have one decent rectangular out and out football stadium in the North Island, with seating all the way round and close up!!

Just build permanent seats up to the pitch area at Westpac, play your cricket at Basin reserve, then your city will start to be the envy of the rest of us sportswise, you'll have the best cricket and footie venues in the country!

With the slope of the seating, temporary seats in front of the stands don't get close to the sidelines. Plus not being under cover, they will either be too hot or too wet for people to want to sit down there.

Plus iirc Shane Harmon told us they'd have to effectively rebuild the stands to do it properly didn't he RR?

Anyone know how much Porirua park cost? 4 slightly larger versions of this stand would work. Its a good example of modern stadia working well in a suburban community too (obviously its not as big as the proposed Petone Arena though). Home of Norths Rugby, and they love it. So would hope Petone rugby would be doing what they could to get on board with the arena. That stand is decent for footy too, have watched the Nix play here many times and the views good, even with that 2-3m wide walkway at the bottom.

I get fired up because it's a stupid rule and none of the security or match day staff can explain it, or tell me why a Belgian flag is banned except that "it's against the rules".

On top of that, we have other national flags in our arsenal and they never even notice them because they are just black/yellow. So clearly nobody actually cares or there would be complaints about our other national flags.

Added to that the fact that one of the Phoenix owners was super-keen for us to get these fucking flags and it all adds up to a situation that makes me angry.

In fact, I'm going to email them right now. Grrrr.

Happy news. Our flags are now allowed. That didn't take long...

Sadly will they make sure all the Fun Police or Red Badge as some know them, know and understand this? I think not

They're not going to read your email then immediately fire someone because you tell them to.
You'd hope they take it under consideration along with any other feedback they get from others.

I don't know why Red Badge keeps hiring obese people, since when did being fat mean that someone is intimidating? We aren't cats or those lizards.

I saw them grab a kid in a headlock and drag him by his head off the concourse once I think just for talking back. Could cause serious damage doing that sort of thing.
They hire them because they are cheap and you get what you pay for. Sadly, little fun Nazis that are going to be very proud knowing that they are fucking everyone off instead of enjoying themselves.

I must admit it, the music was very loud at yesterday's game. I was trying to talk to the person next to me before the game and at half time and it was frustrating having to shout at them.

I was wondering how much of this crowd control stuff is FFA and how much is Westpac rules? Do FFA liase direct with the stadiums?.

Because at the Nix game at Auckland my bag was not searched(they only searched big bags and backpacks...which is more sensible) There was no tortuous loud speaker blathering out code of conduct stuff, they had one very short COC video and that was that.....there didn't even seem to be many Red badge type people. The staff I met all seemed friendly and mainly spent their time showing people to their seats. It was a totally pleasant experiance.

One answer would be: England is a member of FIFA and therefore counts as a "nation", as does the occupied six counties Northern Ireland and the Farøes.

On the other hand, "unrecognized" nations' flags can cause just as much trouble. The St George flag is often used by right-wing gangs in England (eg EDL). Imagine raising the flag of Kurdistan while playing football in Turkey, or of Slavic Macedonia when in Greece, or the Confederate flag in a black neighbourhood of the USA, or - closer to home - the Tino Rangatiratanga flag if you're playing against the Don Brash Fan Club XI.

There's a distinction between "nation" in the political science sense of a group of people with a shared cultural, linguistic, and/or historical narrative, and the popular use of the term "nation" as a synonym for "nation-state" or country. England is definitely not a nation-state. Although some people would debate whether there is an English nation in the first sense (significant cultural differences but definite historical continuity as a "people") I think most would accept it. Sport is actually a really good representation of what Michael Billig referred to as "banal nationalism" - the common, everyday expressions of nationalism as opposed to the extremist and possibly violent position most people think of when the term nationalism is used. From that position England is most definitely a nation.

Hi AJ, thanks for your message. We will pass this onto our security team as there may have been some mis-communication on their part. You can consume non-alcoholic drinks before entering the Stadium, as long as it's disposed of before entering.

I heard that too, but then how did The Police, Stones, Rock2Wgtn, AC/DC etc all play in Wellington?
Because all those bands are so old they dont beleive in new technology?

Gosh, you mean they actually played real old fashioned musical instruments rather than had massive recorded drum and bass sound systems (read "noise") or scratched vinyl records on turn styles in front of banks of speakers? Shame on them.

Protests on a postcard to Dave Gilmore please.

The way Sunny John is selling everything off, won't we be raising the red flag of China anyway in the not too distant future? "We'll sell the country bit by bit, so the people won't notice it, and just to show that we're sincere, we'll invite the royals once a year" = to be sung to the tune of Keep the Red Flag Flying Here.

Twitter is actually a good medium to complain, because Shane Harmon monitors the @WestpacStadium account, and also has a personal account.

That would be my first avenue to contact the stadium about any problems with overzealous security etc.

Also, take photos of any security thugs that try assaulting people to officially complain later, especially if said story about headlocks is true. Using "reasonable force" to evict someone is one thing, but it if you can show it was not reasonable then that's another story.

So what is the policy?. Red Goons ban our Belgium flag...Smithy emails club......Belgium flag is now OK. Does the Stadium make up the rules as they go?

From Mike Fisher at the Petone Community Board.

Hey Everyone, the Petone Community Board is facilitating a public meeting to hear from the Community Facilities Trust about the proposed Petone Arena at Petone Rec. It's at the Petone Rugby Club, Udy St, Petone, next Monday (17 March) at 7pm. There'll be a chance to ask questions and to share your views...see you there! (please share with your contacts, thanks)

Doesn't really sound like the rugby club has been at the forefront of thinking with this proposal. There are comments here and there about them potentially playing games at the stadium, but they certainly don't sound like they've been taken on as a strategic partner at all.

On one hand that might make it a little tougher to get this thing over the line, but on the other hand I wonder if it's because we really want this to be Phoenix HQ more than anything, and courting rugby outfits would jeopardise that a little.

Part of this that that also hasn't been discussed so much is the Phoenix shifting their training base to the remaining park grounds adjacent to the new stadium in the drawing, and also having their offices at the stadium. Our training facilities have been derided at length for years so that's a massive drawcard. We can joke about Rojas and his facilities but if that really was a major thing for him, then perhaps players like that would be inclined to stay with this type of set-up at our disposal.

Pretty well a classic ploy for something a little controversial , let someone else fire all the shots and take the hits initially, wait till they see what direction public opinion is heading then weigh in with support or criticism. I am pretty sure they will be behind this , just  don't want to say too much at the moment.

Its typical of Rugby though. The players, the supporters, the administration - the game. Its happy the way it is being 'grass roots', playing out of haggard old grounds steeped in 'tradition and heritage', professional players playing only in NZ and nowhere else. Nobody associated with the sport wants anything in NZ Rugby to change. We're world champions. Everything is good in NZ, and therefore the rest of the world.

They might be wary of the "oh no you are planning to take ALL of our green space?!?!?!" feedback if that were discussed too much.

But it will be interesting to see what the actual plans and costings are, and how the training facilities will tie in with public use of the remaining grounds at Petone Rec.

If they propose fencing off any area of the remaining grounds for Phoenix training, then you're just eating rigth into the hands of the "lack of green space" crowd.

Why not train in the stadium?

I would think they will have the ability to do that Ryan whereas the hallowed 9read currently stuffed) turf of Westpac wouldn't be available.

Besides, they train in a park open to the public now, there is no reason they can't do that in Petone.
