The Hastings Regional Sports Park had an initial $25 million budget for the stadium, track and surrounding turf facilities. I have no idea what the final cost was.
Remove the track, add a large stand and there we would have the 10,000 to 15,000 stadium we need

Gosford's stadium cost $28 million in 1999 and holds just over 20,000
The great thing about this stadium is the ease of access, right at the entrance to Gosford with easy parking and a quick walk into the arena. Attending an event doesn't require a half day commitment

... just 11.809 (7.409 seats), but that's okay for a town this size. It's was built in 2003-2004 and the price was some 11,5 million €. - 20 m NZD would be double now at a guess

What happened to the plans to creatively remodel the Cake Tin to create the option of a smaller venue inside the main structure?
Was there ever plans to do that? I did a rendering years ago where I rotated the pitch 90 degrees so that the current stands that run along the sides were now the stands that were on either end, and new temporary stands were created along the sides but I've never heard of anyone actually seriously considering having a smaller venue inside the main one.
I like Union Berlin's stadium. 3/4 of the stands are terraced with one main stand with seating and boxes. Having more terracing will reduce costs quite a bit. Any potential 'Nix stadium could at least have behind the goals and corners terraced.

As much as it looks ugly, having the stadium double for a athletics track or be able to host events other than football is also important to help generate money for the club. I.e Spurs new stadium is going to also be used to host NFL.
Just because a stadium cost circa $20m elsewhere, doesn't mean it'll be the same in Wellington. There are lots of hills, regulations for earthquakes have come in, different council, it needs to be somewhere with good transport links, etc.
There were a few kids up on the grass at one end, the other was closed off as was the stand below the cameras. there was one photographer over on that side of the ground.

Absolutely. I support QPR - at Loftus Rd you are literally in touching distance of players. My point is that when building new grounds, club's often try to utilise them as another avenue to generate revenue. Let's be honest, football in NZ isn't popular enough to warrant a stadium that only caters to one team.

Ahh nice thought.....I'm going to the Friends Arena in Stockholm on Saturday to watch Sweden v Chile. Having "endured" the Phoenix this season I'm looking forward to "enjoying" a proper game, in a proper stadium , with proper fans & atmosphere ;-)

I assume the Friends Arena has a roof. I think all new stadiums should aim to have a roof as people today expect more comfort than previous generations. Dunedin people moaned and protested when their expensive new stadium was built, with a roof, but Dunedin now has one of the best facilities in this country. And the roof makes it viable for all kinds of other uses and events.
Think it's been a disaster financially though and the Dunedin rate payers constantly have to make up for it's losses.
Forsyth Bar is exactly what Wellington should have been. But they pandered for the Cricket. And lost a golden chance for roof and any future expansion.
When the built it people probably went to cricket, but seems pretty crazy in hindsight with the sorts of crowds the cricket gets and the fact that there is an iconic and purpose built cricket ground just a couple of KM away.
