Thanks for the knowledge re: ALL BLACKS. Was pretty awesome to be honest. Looked impressive. Need to get something like that going for the Nix sellouts coming up later this year

@ bwtcf - I misunderstood. I thought you meant for the entire stadium. Yes it could work for the Zone! Would take a bit of work since it's kinda wedged shaped though but yes it would look good!

My two cents: I like the idea of sitting in row 13 with the Daniel fan club.
Will wear my season 2 strip as that is what I wear almost every game, just happens to be black.

To me, that is a pretty compelling reason for us to do this.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Never said it was not a compelling reason.... it is a fantastic reason.... would also confuse the sh*t out of red badge too.... The more I think about it the better it gets

I like how they just assumed the Heart would be high flyers. When they've in fact had just one point from their last nine, and have two very difficult games against CCM and Roar before coming to the ROF.

Not sure at the moment whether I like this or not (not that anyone cares what I think) I only own an old all blacks shirt that has been gatheirng dust for some years (was a present) and it would feel really weird wearing it to a NIX game. Why dont they move the stadium microphones closer to the The fever zone and let the noise be intimidatory. I watched a game a few weeks ago when the aussies were ecouraging fqns at corners etc by use of the stadium annoucer telling fans to shout

I've mellowed a little.   How about this then?

We make the zone yellow, as yellow as can be (with a little Green from Brazilian flags), even more yellow than usual.

Then we encourage those outside the zone to do the black thing.  The club struggle to engage with people but when there is an event 'difference' more of the general public get engaged (three points in Newcastle and sneaking into third wouldn't hurt either).  This gives them an event and something different to put on an advertising poster.

I reckon if it adds 500 to the crowd (a win would add more) then they will justify their reasoning and then the zone yellowed up surrounded by black would add a bit of a striped look.

See.  Mellowed.

Black out. Yellow stripe.

Not loving it.  I prefer the idea of adding a brazilian tribute from the zone.

I've got no idea whatsoever what's planned for the 29th but it seems to me that the "Blackout" concept is so out of left field for the Phoenix that it surely has something to do with this "one-off event" that they are planning for the game.

Obviously we won't know if this is the case until game day and you are already at the stadium in your blacks/Season 1 strips, but I can't think of why else a Blackout would be called for.

As I said earlier this is surely a prime chance to get lots of casual fans along who may not have anything yellow in the wardrobe (I recall that this was of concern to many casual fans who we encouraged along to the Jest semi YELL OUT FOR A SELL OUT). It's an opporunity for them to feel involved by "dressing up" for the game, and most will have something black in the wardrobe.

Yellow Fever are going to turn up regardless in black/yellow/both so really we should just be trying to promote the game and concept (whether we like it or not it's going to happen) to casual fans to get them along!

While we might cringe at the concept, one positive is that the club is trying to be a little creative to attract new fans isn't it? Post-RWC I know there were complaints by some at the perceived lack of marketing. Since this is a one-off let's give it a chance and not pre-judge it?

From the general negative reaction to this "Black Heart" thing it brings up a couple of points. One is how in tune are the clubs promo guys with the supporters? obviuosly not very close at all....why didn't they run this past YF before they announced it. The club needs to engage with the fans and do stuff that is meaningful to the supporters. Not just broadcast stuff and expect us to go "yes sir, whatever you say". This Blackout stuff is loaded with rugby overtones....which is toxic to many football fans.
Sure this might drag in a few fringe people we get their retro All Black gear and thinks its fun but if it does not resonate with your core supporters its a dead duck!!!

The supporters group is full of people who are supper passionate about the club.....they are also intelligent people(well, some of them). They are probably full of ideas that would promote the club. It would be great if this initative works but in the future a two way dialogue between the club and its supporters would be a better way to procede.

I heard they want us all to wear black shirts because they are announcing the appointment of Paolo di Canio as Ricki's new assistant.

Except we're already there.  They don't need to do anything resonate with us.

What they need to do is find the 6000 every week that will get them to boost the base 4000 to 10ooo.

But have the Club *ever* discussed with Yellow Fever for its marketing efforts? Tim Brown's 100th didn't appear to have any YF involvement. Nor Nixmas at the park?

I don't know the history but it seems to me as if the Club doesn't typically consult with YF for these "promos" - is that necessarily a bad thing though?

Look at how our cooks can't even decide how to cook the broth?

Also surely part of what makes YF special is that "we" do our own thing not because we are told to, but because we want to? (2/3 signs, Thanks Terry, Brownie head bandages)...

Really Marketing division isn't responsible for getting YF along. They are there to increase crowd figures and there are more non-YF candidates to draw along than YF-non-attendees.

I'm not saying I like the idea of Blackout but I think my points carry some validity.

I can't help but think the special surprise isn't such a good idea either. If it was good wouldn't letting people know what it is beforehand entice people to turn up? And if it underwhelming won't people feel let down? Still despite my negativity I am glad they are trying things to improve the crowds. I'm just not convinced they have thought this through very well. I think the lower carpark charges ARE a good idea, just not for the weekday fixture which they ran it on first up.

Does the carpark have ANYTHING to do with the club though? I thought it would be a Westpac thing because it's advertised as $10 event parking for "all of January". Not specifically Nix games. Not sure if anything else is happening though.

I would guess most 'new' people that they're trying to attract would have something black in their closet, as opposed to something yellow.

The migration to Ailse 13 would be one hell of a tribute. Brazilian flags in the FZ would mean a lot to Daniel, but i bet everyone moving to 'his corner' would simply blow him away.

Tim will be jealous.

The phoenix provides a huge amount of the stadiums revenue so yes, it has a huge amount to do with the club. If this wasn't a phoenix initiative they should be negotiating to reduce the normal charges.
