They obviously have KJI confused with Elton John. But I can see how you'd make that mix-up.

what  load of boring one dimensional football we played....AGAIN  Whilst I wouldnt necessarily advocate sacking the manager somehting need to give....our football changes week by week.  We have one good game and then its like damn we had better not play this good again and go back to the dull. long ball and the kick it up the wings play because we cant trust our midfield.  Why did we ever sign Elliott..management couldnt see there way clear to giving him game time....we have vukovic...arguably a great goalkeeper...we're letting him go....we play with the shortest centre forward  in the A-league and give him no support...Our defence has been hit and miss with all the changes...we sign players on a whim...our preseason scouting was sh*t..possibly due to the world cup but im sure that Ricki doesnt do all the scouting himself

So if this isn't about the coach then why are you posting it in here?

The coach has to take some responsibility for what happens as well as evryone else...and yes I know the nix beat(barely) adelaide last week but then again if you are content to win one game every now and again and are not interested in what happens in between then good for you...Im not!! Its no good looking through rose tinted glasses and saying everything is ok, because its not

By barely you mean apart from the dominat statistics and play that favoured us ?

Yes we were sh*t last night but the previous four displays have been impressive. I'm going to see how things look this Saturday (blurry I expect) before I decide the wheels have fallen off.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Last 5 games LWLDW. You don't sack your coach for that, especially showing signs of turning things around before last night's horror show. I agree that sh*t has to change, but I just don't understand how getting rid of the coach is going to help at all?!

Seasons 1,2 & 3 ranged from good to great but this season is teetering on the edge of being a failure.

A lot of the responsibility sheets back to Herbert - is this reason to sack him - no, but major lessons to be learned - especially about recruitment, consistency of selection and game strategies.

Next few weeks are absolutely key - Roar, Reds, GCU and Mariners have pretty much locked in the top 4. We are in a sh*t fight with Victory, Jets and maybe Sydney for last 2 play-off spots.

Massive game this weekend.

TBH except for the last half of season three(last season) we have consistently been in the bottom third of the table.
I seem to remember season 1 and 2 and the the first half of season 3 us being inconsistent, struggling to win away i.e just like this season.
I actually think we have gone backwards from season 3. At least last season we had a tight defense which got us through even when we were not playing well. This year the defense is a joke.
There still is time to resurrect this season and there have been some good recent signs but we are only a shadow of the side that finished last season.

To be fair i dont think that I suggested that the Nix sack the coach...i suggested that something has to change and that would include looking at all aspects of the team

Yes, but it's up to the coach to identify exactly which aspects of the team need to change (personnel? strategy?).

If he can't do that then perhaps he is the problem and the thing that needs to change, which is what this thread is about I guess.

I can see this discussion going around in circles for a while...

In the NZH article about Vukovich signing for Perth he was quoted as saying:

"You have to compete for a place everywhere. You can't really expect to play week-in week-out. You have to be performing."

The same is true for professional coaches. You're judged on results. Just ask Sam Allardyce.

My hope is that the Nix kick some butt in their next 10 games and power it into the playoffs. But if we see more of the same (e.g. lose all of the remaining 5 'away' games) then it's probably time for a rethink.

Yeah, I realise Blackburn are mid-table, and that's a pretty good effort in the EPL, but the point was that even that wasn't good enough for the club's new owners.

Maybe Terry will be a bit more forgiving of Ricki than they were of Sam.

The trouble with you is that you try and make everyone else believe that you know something about football. You are just full of crap.

the problem with ricki is that hes built systems with smeltz that used one striker and now he doesnt really wanna break out of his one CF mould so he can clog up the midfield with his favs Brown and Lia.

I don't think playing with one CF is necessarily a problem - playing Ifill in that role, with Brown supporting and Ward / Leo/ Daniel / Rojas wide has worked well.

I think the problem is we have played Greeny in that role for a season and half and the role doesn't fit his skill set hence we, and he, have struggled. We signed Mac to be the target this season but that's been a flop.

Leaving Ifill as the CF is fine as long as Brown is told to play forward - which shouldn't be a problem with Manny back at DM.

I don't think the problem is Herbert necessarily wanting to pack the park with midfielders - I think the problem is we haven't recruited a second decent striker for Greeny to play off so we end up playing one upfront by default.

I agree. I'm more accepting of Greenacre these days because of his huge workrate, commitment and professionalism but whenever we play him in that sole striking role I groan inwardly. It really restricts us IMO, and it often seems illogical - pumping long balls and crosses to a not very big man who is energetic but not overly skilful.

Ifill may not be wholly comfortable as striker but he looks a lot more dangerous. Much prefer to have him up the top end of the park than having to drop back all the time as was happening again in the GC game last week.

Yeah good one mate.

They have been low on the table a lot since he took over. The new owners expect more, dont know whether they will get it with the team they have.

It is an example though of if you dont acheive after a certain amount of time, then off you go.
