Looks like some supporters should be getting drug-tested too!

Guys do you care to articulate your position?

Having a decent run in the World Cup is about having a group of talented players that gel well together (and are genuinely playing for their country) and a coach that can bring out the best in the group. It's a totally different paradigm than coaching Chelsea or Barcelona.

Barbourouses was overlooked by Ricki in the past because he didn't fit the strategy of the Phoenix... since then, Ricki has warmed to the idea of a more integrated style of play (although I don't believe he has ever been pushing 'total football'). The flaw is that we simply don't have the players for this at the Phoenix.

Traditionally the strength of both the AWs and the Phoenix has been a culture of solidarity - quite possibly the strongest team culture at the last World Cup and in the previous seasons of the A League.

What I am hoping to see from the All Whites this year is 'the third way'. A team that has the grit and strength to grind out a result when they need to, but which can also put together a creative on-the-ground attack. It is possible that the whole saga of the Phoenix in 2012/13 is ultimately a necessary building block for the AWs in Brazil.

As previously stated, my recommendation: Let Ricki focus on the AWs now. Hire Kosmina for the rest of the Phoenix season to shake things up at the club, get up in Morgan's grill and make a last ditch run for the playoffs.

Maybe she just doesn't share your point of view. By the same logic I could say that you must have had some sort of failed relationship with Ricki.

The problem we had with your post was that you said Ricki had the skills to make  the quarters or semi's of the World Cup, which is never, ever going to happen. Ever.

I think it is for Riki to go and bring some top coach in from overseas ie England or any top club from Europe.Which would help the Phoenix more competive plus this year has been a bit boring at times like when the Phoenix got thumped 7-1 against Sydney fc

You were the one that asked for us to articulate our position... You are allowed to share your opinions, but we are also equally allowed to share ours. And in my opinion, we have a minimal chance of making the World Cup, let alone making it through the group stage and then winning a game in the Round of 16.

If Ricki has the ability to coach the All Whites to a quarter or semi final of the world cup he is surely wasted in his current position.

He did get within a goal of the last sixteen, to be fair.

But yeah, quarters, semis, may be stretching it a little bit.

Only in the same way NZ were 'within a goal' of losing all 3 games.

Havent the nix got that guy based in OZ scouting the opposition teams and helping Ricki with the planning to beat them and making us more competive in wawy games. 7-1 5-0.

He should be the first guy the sack!

A prediction: when Ricki goes, Steve-O and JD will be cursing his replacement within 6 months or 6 games into the season and yelling "SACK [FILL IN THE BLANK]". Some people ain't happy unless they've got something to be miserable about.

Anyway, he's basically saying Ricki should get the sack from the Nix now and just concentrate on the AWs. Which is something I thought most of you wanted?

You don't seem to be happy if you're not attacking others on here or going bananas at people in the stadium.

Try six minutes....
If Ricki is replaced the choice of new coach is almost guaranteed to create an enormous outpouring of angst. Whoever it is will be dumped on by a large section of the YF.....before he has even coached them one match You can please some of the people some of the time but .....etc etc. Such is life on football forums.

Unfortunately this is true Austin.

I would ask 1 question of Steve-O and JD and its a sincere question:

In spite of all that is going on and all that you are not happy about, is there anything about the club that you like or are positive about?

I would be intrigued to know the answer to that. I guess I might appreciate their points of view more.

Not really. What are you positive about?

Recent times have diminished any 'feelgood factor' there might've been.

One would hope the youth academy will come good but that's about it.

I'm positive that there are a lot of players off contract this year. I think certainly this off season will be defining based on recruitment. Its not something we have done right but we actually have a chance to get it right. Its positive. If we bring back Sanchez and Smith as imports (we already have 3) then consider it a write off.

I like the fact that the Welnix board are at pains to review the whole operation and create some areas that have been missing, like bringing back Ed to run the science/fitness programme for example Our players look unfit right now but if he can get them in and working in the offseason and get them in shape - an unfit Ifill is a classic example - then that will bode well for next season. I'm positive that the board members have made an attempt to look at all areas.

I too have hope for the youth academy. The principle of it is right - perhaps the execution needs a little work.

I'm positive about the performance of Bertos this year. He got slammed last year for being a Ricki favourite and can do no wrong to get dropped but this year I think he has redeemed himself. He has made a good fist of RB. He is not the finished product by no means but he has done a good job I think and is playing well.

I think Ricki is starting to get tough with some of his 'favourites' which is a good thing. Perhaps has not gone far enough.

Granted what is going on on the pitch in terms of performance is not flash, not everything is doom and gloom.

Best in terms of technical operation? Hmmm this version, version 3, is better than version 2 but missing a few features from version 1.
It could be worse, we could have the tards forum. That place is the wild wild west of Australian football inbreeding. Feral does not even come close to describing.

I am still extremely positive about the fact that we even have a professional football team in Wellington.

I mean stop and think about that for a minute.

The whole story is fantastic - like some kind of miracle.

The old forums had a feature where you could ask a question and people would vote for the answer. A few weeks after the last World Cup I posted: "What do you think is a realistic goal for the All Whites at the 2014 World Cup?"

As I recall, most people voted for 'round of 16' and quite a few people voted for 'make the quarters'. (MODS - by all means repost the results here if you can rescue them). There was no talk of finding a new coach, it was assumed it would still be Ricki. But then he has a horror season and suddenly it is crazy talk to think like that.

This season's problems have been Phoenix problems, not specifically Ricki problems. Yes he has been a big part of it and should not be excused, but I also have every confidence that he can redeem himself through the next chapter of his career with the AWs.

That has nothing to do with Ricki's perceived coaching ability (or inability), that's just crazily irrational and wild expectations from fans.
