Short term pain, long term gain.

Only if you've already decided that Ricki is the problem. And Steve-O decided that Ricki is the problem three years ago (go back to first post in this thread) and has stuck to that belief ever since. A stopped clock is right occasionally, but you never know when.

I am honest enough to say that Ricki might be the problem, or he might not. But my personal theory is that the real issue is the players don't like or trust Welnix. I think Ricki's end-of-season review should be tough and he should be sacked if he doesn't have a feasible plan to make things better next year. This may be complicated by a bunch of players leaving because they don't want to work for Cat-Killer Morgan any more.

I do not agree.

Truth is Herbert has been crap for years. I too having been saying it. Only when he is asked to coach 'football' is he really found out by the majority.

Doloras, you say "  he should be sacked if he doesn't have a feasible plan to make things better next year."

What about all the year previous, where was the plan for those. What halfarsed knob jockey thinks that just making the finals is a success? Some one here just the other day was still gushing about having a pro football side in NZ. I say get over it and make the most of it, and hurry up. Complete crap that Herbert is now talking about long term goals. What a joke. He picked the players, he coaches the players, wtf is his excuse? And please don't blame Wellnix, all they have done is expose him for which I and others who expect more are grateful. Herbert's honeymoon should have been over years ago yet it still continues, for some.

If you were saying it when we made the playoffs three years in a row, then it's clear that a crap coach doesn't necessarily mean crap results - right?

But that's the whole issue there. You don't like the man, you come out of the woodwork when we're in a bad phase to curse his name and yell I TOLD YOU SO, and then you disappear back into the woodwork when we have a good run. That's the Sack Ricki agenda - it can never be dispelled, only delayed.

But you know what? I've had it. I'm getting all this flamebait - called out by name by multiple people, the punching bag of the Sack Ricki crowd - even though I'm only saying that Sacking Ricki might not be the solution to our problems. Not even defending Ricki's performance, even though I've said that I don't really mind if he goes at the end of the season. No, anything less than complete negativity makes me a target, so you know what? Screw it. I hope Ricki is resigned for another two years, even if we wooden-spoon it for the next three years, just to piss you negative, bombastic armchair managers off.

Your very easy to please then, I apologise if some of us have slightly higher expectations than being in the top 6 out of 10 teams.

What have we actually achieved though ?

We've won SFA and haven't even looked likely to win anything in like 6 years.

WSW look capable of achieving more than we've ever done, in only 6 months.

We've achieved being a NZ professional football team that hasn't gone broke. Yes, I have low expectations.

ding we have a winner - the a-league is not about teams playing on a level playing field, and given the recent news about promotion/relegation and an FA style cup I can see us getting screwed even more - if we are still in the comp in 2015

And AFC also want a 12 team league (and I guess by rationale, an 8 team play off Lols)

That's one of the problems. 6 team play off in a 10 team league ? Come off it. If it was top 4 (like it should be) how many playoffs would we have made ? Not many. 1 I believe 2 tops.

6 team playoff flatters us tbh.

Bloody hell and i get accused of being a sad sack at times.Must be a dream that i attended a sell out finals game at the ROF,something that many thought could never happen in NZ.The mere fact that the Phoenix and football in general gets a lot more press than it did before is an acheivement in its self.To say nothing has been acheived in my mind is just wrong. You cant just right off previous years just because this season has turned to custard.

I'm f*ckin annoyed because I asked for a pony a few seasons ago.  Did I get one?

Did I bollocks.  Instead I get in the post this week a bunch of biscuit crumbs and some choc chips along with a note: "Sorry about the pony, but have this cookie instead."

Someone will pay for this.

Thanks for picking out one line. How did you go with the rest of it?

The finals three years in a row. Wow.

You know that's 6 out of 10 teams.

The point of a football side in a salary capped competition it to win it or at least look likely sometimes . When have we done this?

No, if I had started in " a bad phase" it would have been much earlier in the season. :) I have nothing personal against RH. You are getting personal when it's all about business. A fallacy

Guess what, finding problems and admitting to them is not negative because it is a signpost to a better way.

"Screw it. I hope Ricki is resigned for another two years, even if we wooden-spoon it for the next three years, just to piss you negative, bombastic armchair managers off."

As I said, it's not negative. You seem to have a lot of anger and not much understanding. Being against the coach IS NOT being against the Nix. In fact I think it is very pro Nix so please don't try and demonize "ricki out" as the opposite. Ricki's going would be a positve for the club, for the city, for the country. Maybe you should try and be less fearful

Oh and Kudos to you for breaking free of theology mythology.

Maybe you have swapped it for herbitology mythology instead ;)

At least there is some evidence for Herbert's being :)

Auskiwi, we have finished 4th twice. Including just last season. So your insinuation that we only finished 6th in each of those seasons isn't quite correct.
