Why? From what I can find, Coveny's only coaching gig was an unsuccessful stint with South Melbourne in the Victorian Premiere League after which he was sacked. And Douglas is currently Technical Director of Football Federation Victoria - way less qualified than Rob Sherman.

Plus do they even have a Pro-License? I know there's been a lot of angst towards the club over the last 6 months over a few poor decisions but do you honestly think that they would appoint either of those guys, Vader? No way

Anyway, I thought they've already said they were looking for experienced australian candidates?

if you just going to pick names like that may as well go for ones that are actually working as coaches at the moment like say Simon Elliott (Sacramento), Stu Riddle (Northern Kentucky University) or Andrew Peat (Vancouver)!!!

Simon Elliott has just got his gig, no way he will leave.

Ryan Nelsen would gain some media attention... would help in rebuilding and developing a winning culture.

Nelsen, at the time of Toronto job, I don't even think had A licence let alone Pro licence required. I don't think he would be a serious option.

Unless the ffa grant a dispensation for a marquee manager, but seems extremely far fetched

Rudan is not going to get Sydney.

CCM went with Mulvey.

Gombau probably done just enough to remain at WSW (especially if they secure 6th).

Rudan could be in the mix for a Wollongong expansion team, but if he wants a season or two under his belt (which may or may not be long term), before other opportunities, Nix in the meantime?

Rumours floating around that WSW is talking to Okon.

Can't see how that's an upgrade. Was quite a playing philosophy shift from Popa to Gombau, so if I were WSW I'd be patient. Having said that i reckon Josep would be great for the Nix; Ramon a natural Assistant.

Ramon can't be an assistant. He doesn't have the qualifications to be able to do it.

Technical Director then; or is that Greenie's job title next year?

I would be very surprised if they decided to swap Gombau for Okon. Gombau is a much more experienced coach although he tends to rub people the wrong way a bit.  The only possible explanation would be the wages as Okon is likely a much cheaper option, but then that is hardly a reason to change coaches.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I've seen a suggestion the new coach will be at the last game prior to signing his contract. If that is the case, I'm sure every YF supporter on the night will be out to spot him and blow the story wide open before the club can announce it.

Looks a pretty reasonable option, be entertaining watching the players adjust to his tactics, but would he survive the phoenix coach curse?

I’m hearing rumours of Frank Farina walking around Albany. Can anyone confirm?

well apparently the core supporters at Sydney had a major part in him leaving that job with protests, banners and chanting in their last home game of the season.

Probably thinks this will be a nice easy gig

Please don't troll me like this.  I actually find that somewhat believable and this season has been bad enough I just can't take it. :(

Would Farina really be that bad as the Nix new coach if he could stay sober (which, I understand, he is these days after a history of battling the booze)?

He didn't exactly light the league on fire while at Sydney FC, and he had Del Piero at his disposal during that time.

I think the league has also moved on since 2014, and I'm not convinced he could take the club where we want to be.

If we are going for the option of an Australian coach, there are a few candidates I'd prefer over him.

If the Nix's criteria prioritises a 'big name' coach instead of coaching prowess, we're done for.

So, season done, and still no coach announced.  Anyone know where the club is at with this? Be nice if this individual was there in time for the start of the preseason. Even better if he arrived in time to decide on who to keep and who to let go. Rather that scenario than have Dome and co make those calls. But... this is the Nix we're talking about. <sarc>

David O'Leary would be alright, he knows how to get the best out of young players.

Just adding some more speculation but could Luciano Trani be one of the contenders? He knows Wellington and the A-league very well.
