At the risk of being a bore... I assume Rob Sherman would take the job if it was offered to him. One of the best qualified coaches anywhere, strong footballing pedigree, well liked and respected in NZ football circles, knows the A-League, a safe pair of hands, etc, etc... Nah, too safe. We need a coach with a bit more 'edge'. The guy they had earlier this season had that in spades. Maybe we could get him back?

David Dome confirms the Wellington Phoenix short-list for the new Head Coach is down to two candidates. @ALeague

and those two candidates are?
Piney says both are local, i assume he means a league local and not nz local.
and those two candidates are?
I shudder to think! Is there anyone halfway decent left who hasn't been snaffled up by other HAL clubs?

thts what they said about DK as well.
Queenslander 3x a year.

Yeah but it would be nice, just for once, if we the fans that handover large amounts of money in the form of buying season tickets and tatty merch. to try and keep the whole shebang alive for a piss-poor team who half of them don't give a fuuuck in a very, very expensive country to live in, (does anywhere in the known universe charge more for beer, lamb or vegetables?) would just like to know what the f&&cking hell the board are up to?
I hate full stops.

They're unlikely to say who the two candidates are at this stage (will we ever know who missed out?), but surely an ETA isn't too much to expect. I agree, the current information is next to nothing. Much like our season. But, hey, we avoided the wooden spoon, so must be thankful for small mercies. Eh! ;)
Damn I told Domey I am working on my pro licence.

Rudan or Sherman. From the tea leaves, so it must be true.
Kotahitanga. We are one.
I mean if it is "local", then surely theres only really a few guys it can be right?:
- Paul Okon (although I'm fairly sure he has said he's not interested)
- Rob Sherman
- Michael Valkanis
- JP De Marigny
- Mark Rudan
- Frank Farina (please god no)
- Ante Milicic
- Phil Moss
- Hayden Foxe
- Scott Miller
- Tony Popovic (Technically an option but I don't see us shelling out the coin for him)
- Ross Aloisi
- Arthur Papas
Probably missed some, but there are only a few on here that I would be happy with to be honest

I would give a lot to find out what background he had in mind.
As in "passed the licence test"? "Accounting"? "Euro accent"?
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
It is not going to matter one iota who the coach is until we have the players that are good enough. Pretty simple really.
If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Doint really get why people think they are entitled to be told who the candidates are and when the decision will be made. Not as if you were told and said i dont agree with that person or timing the clubs going to say oh okay we will just keep looking.Like the players they sign we will be just expected to accept it. We just have to hope they have at last learnt some lessons from the shark they have put us through in recent seasons.
If they havnt then i really do fear for our future.

Said on the radio it might be a couple of weeks. http://120.138.20.16/WeekOnDemand/ZB/auckland/2018.04.15-15.00.00-S.mp3
Good interview, there's a part two as well in the next file.
So there's two candidates who are Australasian (probably Australian) but neither can be decided on because neither are available yet, but will be in the next week or two. It's a reasonable assumption then that the Phoenix are waiting for the A-League season to finish. If the candidates were contracted to an NPL team then they're only a few games into their seasons.
Probably rules out Okon, Poppa, and yes, Farina, and we're then looking for an active assistant or head coach.
We were connected with Gombau a few weeks back and WSW seem to want him out for some reason, otherwise we were also connected with Jean-Paul de Marigny who is the Victory assistant.

Speculation alert: it probably suggests a coach aligned with a club that is NOT going to play in the finals this year, as these are not over in a week or two. So it could well include Okon as well as Gombau (but both sound somewhat unlikely to me as potential Nix candidates). Strangely enough I think it might be someone from the left field that we have not yet considered.
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
If that correct (available in the next week or two) doesnt that mean a coach or assistant from perth, wsw or central coast?
Kenny Lowe anyone?
I'm fairly sure I remember reading something about Okon ruling himself out for the Nix gig. Gombau is an interesting one - seems fans don't want him, and with Popa back in Australia I think most WSW fans would have him back in a heart beat - but you look at all the players they've signed for next season, they're all very much Gombau -type players. To go from a Popa system to a Gombau system takes more time than just 6 months to come right, and I think given the amount of signing they've allowed him to make I would have doubted the Wanderers giving him the boot. Tonight's result however changes things, as not getting top 6 is a massive failure for a club as big as they are. I think given these factors though we might see him leave the Wanderers, but it won't be to come to us judging from the fact he's been shaping next season's squad to his liking, and that from what Dome has said they've been talking seriously with candidates for a while
Gombau has had rumours swirling around for a while though, and SMH are saying his future is in doubt after failing to hit the minimum targets.
Surely he could just come on board? No need for the club to wait, but there's probably plenty of bad blood there.

Ned Zelic?? Its got me fked who it would be and they obesely haven't coached before not in the A-League anyway just assisted .

Interview starts about 7:28 for those who don't want to listen to all the fluff beforehand.

Suggest you look at the league table.

I hope we don't end up with some HAL assistant coach who then fails to deliver in the top job. Why take a punt with anything less than a proven performer with so much at stake next season?
What proven performer did you have in mind?
The only proven performers are either contracted, performed a long time ago, or are overseas.
Would be interesting to know the terms under which the new coach is being employed.
Will he have total responsibility for Recruitment (aside from Financial)?
Is there still a "football Committee"
Will he report to Dome or the Board direct?
Will he have any responsibility for the Academy?
Will a Director of Football be in place?
Will he hire support staff?
