When I google the Brady bunch, the correct thing comes up - an American tv programme about a family

I googled "not the brady bunch"as I wanted to know if that was a legitimate saying that meant anything. Answer: no, just pointless drivel.

And I'm sure what I found is far superior to the original.

Guess you need to first watch the series to first find out if it is superior

Why would you assume that I've never watched the Brady Bunch?

BTW, what do the Nix players do to fill in these last few weeks of the official season with no games to play? Turn up for training as normal? Go on holiday a bit early?

One would assume they go on Holiday for the next 2-3 months. Season's over, there are no details regarding contracts, HAL doesn't start until October or so and World Cup's in June.

I'm pretty sure they continue to train up until the A-League Grand Final, they definitely don't have 2-3 months holidays.

It would have been ideal if they were still training when the new guy arrived and he could put them through their paces, even if only for a few days, otherwise he'll be making contract decisions on players he hasn't seen in action.

I think it may actually be Jean-Paul de Marigny, he is at victory and they are in the playoffs.

Yeah, 3 might be a bit long (I was factoring in the weeks we're not in the finals), but I just don't understand why they would continue training when we've got no manager and the season's over. New season doesn't start until October so my guess was based on them prepping for 2018/19 at least 3 months prior to the first KO - pre-season etc.

Dura is in San Fran and Llujic is also out of the country, going by their Instagram accounts.

So, every team that finished out of the top six has parted company with their head coach this year... has that ever happened before?

Thought I might as well post this but do you reckon if somehow we managed (pun intended) to appoint Wenger as the new manager attendance would sky rocket and the FFA would consider giving the Nix the extension that required all those specific figures of attendance and high performance etc.

yes, all that would happen except for the first thing (Us signing Wegner), so no

I'd say we were all pretty much guessed they'd be Australian so no real clues there.

Yuss. I'm still in the hunt!!!

No news on age so far, so I'm still in the running too! A-League's future youngest ever coach here!

Definitely was a youth coach at Barca.

This from a Spanish sport website on his signing to coach Adelaide:

Translation from Spanish:

"Gombau began his career as a coach at Amposta and as scout in the youth ranks of Espanyol, before he moved to Barça. His arrival at the club azulgrana took place in 2003, and for six years he was technician of the FCB Escola. Not only in Barcelona, but also in Dubai and Hong Kong."

Yeah, the only person I know of that says he's a bus driver is "stealth" on Soccer Stoppage Time. I wonder if Stealth is also the covert agent? He talks a lot of crap about players and teams, and also keeps talking up Ramon who the covert agent apparently represents.

I also wonder if it’s Gary Van Egmond.

Been with the Matilda’s at the AFC Asian cup, so we would have had to wait until the end of that tournament to announce him (they lost the final 1-0 on Saturday)

Turned the Jets around and won a championship - which they’d be hoping he can do with us.

Won that championship with Dura - which might explain the recent talk about him possibly coming back for another year.

Worked with AIS - so he’d tick the box of working well with the academy here and bringing kiwi youngsters through the first team.

Assistant with the Matilda’s - would give him experience in a lot of the other stuff the nix would be looking for in a head coach such as S&C, sports science etc.

He is the sort of low risk option the nix should probably be looking for.

You are talking about the same GvE that has a win % about the same as Ricki and played some terrible football in his second stint at the Jets right? The league has moved on since he last coached, that would be a terrible choice.

35% career win percentage isn’t so bad is it? In his last season with the Jets they finished 7th, 2 points behind a playoff spot. Although they were quite bad the year before that.

In general, "entrenador" and "tecnico" mean roughly the same thing, a head coach.

This thread has gone very quiet over the last few days, overtaken by the general angst, claims, and counter claims regarding the club's sale/merger/future.
However, we still need a coach. Anyone close to the club heard any new rumours about who this man will be, and when he's likely to be announced?

Permalink Permalink

A deliberate misdirection... they have no one... everyone said NO!

Permalink Permalink

They are due to announce very soon according to the last statements about it. Announcing a coach would put to bed all the other discussion for a while.

Bit of a long shot, but that Merrick bloke is exactly the kind of winning coach we need. Taking a team of losers and in one season getting them into the finals. Whatever he wants to coach us, pay it. If anyone could transform the Nix, he could. Oh... wait... ;)

And he clearly knows how to pick a good goalkeeper. And is not shy to give young Kiwis like Ridenton a go either.

I was never happy with him going and reckon player-power must have had something to do with it.

I thought it was because he got tired having to deal week in week out with mediocrity.
