I doubt it. Ernie's not a ginger.

The ginger gene is recessive though. 2 non-gingers can have a ginger kid. Plus Ernie's Scottish and there's a lot of ginger in that gene pool

Talk is he just doesn't like Wellington.

I'm telling you - we should sign Mike Eagar. It's ridiculous that we haven't at least looked at him.

You guys are close to the club, have a word with them...

seriously smithy, is eagar that good now?  where would you play him; right back, centre back or centre mid?

Kind of reminds me of Chris James. It seems bizarre we haven't looked at him too.

Can anyone explain the love for eager and let us know his background/pedigree? Is it better then Adams? A quick google search doesn't give much info

Eager's a young kiwi playing at the best team in the best competition in this part of the world below the A League (where he takes up an import slot). Worth a look on that basis alone.

He's an All White who's a ball-playing midfielder who's without a club, and has decent experience in professional football

Not trying a wind up but if he was good, surely someone would have picked him up?

He'd be an import at any other club. Makes it less likely.

Allegedly

And there are a number of fellow All Whites playing for the Nix who will have told Ernie exactly what to expect - for better or for worse.

Reg I was going to list all the players the Nix have signed who are less good and have less pedigree than Eags. But there were too many.

On FM08 Chris James is on a free transfer at the start of the game and within a few years becomes a decent EPL centre mid, good passer and set pieces but tires easily. However you have to select "include all players from New Zealand" to see him. Maybe Ernie forgot to tick that box when he setup the game?

I know you put that theory out there Term but has that been confirmed? You have to wonder with that talent, has his agent not done a Jessie Ryder and said 'mate you are being a cock and killing your own career' What is he, 26? Not that many years left now....

Was someone not saying Eagar has or potentially about to get an AU passport? Could he be like 'fuck you Phoenix, I'm getting an AU passport so I can open up my options?' Just a question cause if he is as good as you say he is Smithy (and I only vaguely remember him at TW but he seems on fire in the VPL) then surely he is a dead cert pick up unless there are some issues in the way.

Eagar is already an Aussie (Aussie Mother), so could play for them anyway.

If he was looking to gain AU passport for playing he'd be shit outta luck, as he has played a youth A International, which rules him out of playing at National Level for anyone he doesn't already have a passport for (The Lia Clause).

I can categorically tell you that Eags would sign tomorrow if the Nix offered him something.

He could switch as long as he was eligible to play for Aus when he played the youth games for NZ. Which sounds like he could be if his mum was born in Australia.

If his mum is Australian then he does qualify to be a local so this is not a case of playing there to qualify himself as a local. He has a right to get that passport.

Guess the issue is the Phoenix then which stuns me. If what everyone is saying is gospel that this is a guy that can make a difference (as far as being a better squad guy and push for a starters gig) and wants to play for us, then why are we not looking at him? Has he reached out to the club under this regime (After Ricki?)

Only if he actually held Oz citizenship at the time (i think).

Am I right in saying that we now have 20 players signed on for next season. Watson and Gulley to join pre-season on June 2nd with Sam Burfoot rumoured to have signed, is that an indication of possibly completing the squad? Watson/Ifill? Gulley/Eager?

19 signed, with Shermy having a contract in front of him + Burfoot rumoured.

Oh good, another infant midfielder:

I think, as a minimum, we should be trying to sign players who are currently shaving.

Best goal scored:
Would have to be the winner I struck for Auckland City FC against the Wellington Phoenix in the pre-season match earlier this year. But any goals that come my way are special.

..isn't this how Ricki signed Totori?

Just a reminder to keep the speculation in the speculation thread. Discussion on the confirmed signing/re-signing/releasing of players stays in here.
