Ahh, similar to our treatment of Diego's Son.

I also think that there were issues with Stein and Carlos' fitting into Ernie's ideal system. We can't play a well coordinated pressing system or look to counter with both players. Ernie has said he wants more mobility, it looks he would like us to be able to press better and counter better than we did last season.

Yeah, this is fair - pressing system definitely suffers with a guy like Carlos in the team; but it also suffers with someone like Ifill in there too.

How likely is it that Ifill will be starting? He has the offseason to get into shape and then Ernie will have to decide how Ifill fits into the team and based on that, if he sees a role for Ifill, how much are they prepared to offer him.

He wasn't happy in Melbourne.  By the end he was high maintenance there as well.

Getting his family settled wasn't helped by him being too lazy to make sure his family had valid passprts.

He turned up for at most 5 of 27 games and we need a player that will turn up for more than that.

He has Premier League ego and self worth but A-League skill.

Bye.

I would respectfully disagree. He has a World Cup size ego, but would not make the Roar first team, Wanderers first team, and quite possibly the CCM (Mariners) first team as these teams rely not just on individual skill but on high individual mobility.
It is my impression that Carlos went to India because he could not keep up with the pace of the game at MV and because the money on offer was good. But he probably knew he would not make the Costa Rican WC team if he stayed in India, hence he answered Ricki's phone call.

It shows that Ifill has a great sense of humour.

Ifill also tweeted about how he had to put unemployed on his own departure card for the first time. Not long before the above tweet from memory.

If he doesn't get a contract I really hope the club/tv stations/football in NZ create a position for him.

He is a huge asset to football here and we need more people like him.

... everyone should buy a house from Elle in the meantime.

I reckon that if the club doesn't re-sign Ifill then they should give him a cameo performance off the bench at the Football United double-header in Wellington. Give the guy a chance to get a proper thank you from a big crowd at RoF. He deserves it.

He's not fit enough yet, though if he's here a chance for us to say thanks (tho not goodbye) would be great!

Where would you buy? Thorndon or Petone?

Apparently Carlos got a  sweet f all payout.

Good to know. Yeah on Ifill, apparently trying to qualify as a kiwi which would help. I'd sign him as a coach/mentor and see how he rehabs cause 34 is a bastard of an age for an injury like that in terms of coming back into a pro environment. If he's with the club and we need injury cover could always be signed as a player again then - all the better if he's a "kiwi".

He doesn't have a contract; therefore he can say what he likes. I really don't think that Ernie will be all like "hmmm, was going to sign him again but dammit that KFC gag was just not on!!!"

I like Ifill a lot and yes more then Carlos. Ok on here but not by him. Expected better from a player  who I thought was class on and off the field. Something Pav might say

If Leo and Iffs don't actually play in the game (and I wouldn't expect them to, it's a preseason match) then I'd hope there would definitely be some sort of presentation thanking them for their service to the club in between the two games or something.

And I do think a recognition of Stein would be nice, but Leo was an absolute club and local legend, and you have to contrast his reaction in not playing to others. Plus he's endured more than his fair share of kicking for club and country.

Would love Leo to play in that game. Depends if he is picked up by another club by then of course.

Not sure if ifill would quite be fit enough or if he'd want to risk coming back too soon and re-injuring himself just for this game? Unless he knew for sure he wasn't going to get another contract.

Allegedly

He is barely walking. I have more chance of playing than he does.

Ah well, I thought he was further along than that. Maybe a testimonial match in the midseason break then?

With the Nix releasing Carlos on the day the wider Costa Rica squad was named, would the Nix recieve a payment form Fifa for him as we did for our All Whites in 2010?
