He really didn't. Smaller sample size too.

He sold his car on TradeMe with the message "Selling because heading OS" so he might still be waying up offers, or maybe he has no interest, but it appears as though he doesn't think he's staying with the nix.

Or told off the record he is not staying. Apparently the new manager has already taken a look at the squad

Stoked to see the signing of Singh!

I'm ok with the Lowry re-signing, he showed enough, deserves it.

Watson I'm not chuffed about at all. Doubt he'd be the best central league striker!!

I trust the new coach has signed off on these three - especially Watson, considering how so many on this forum don't rate him as good enough for the A-League.  Maybe the new gaffer sees something in him that others are missing.

Maybe the new gaffer had nothing to do with it and he had an automatic renewal due to some metrics.

Damn. I thought he could become a good keeper. Shay Given is without a club. We better sign up Arod fast. Build a team around him.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

If they think they need ARods import spot for the season and they were clever they would sign him to perform some other job around the club for 12 months, play him in the WeeNix and next year when he'd done his 5 years residency bring him back in as a kiwi.

I think they should sign him and he would be one of the first names on my team sheet but if the new manager feels he needs an import elsewhere it seems stupid to lose the investment in him.

Happy with all three.

Watson gets a lot of stick, but what striker looked great last year?

There is some confusion whether Fenton is actually off contract. This topic has him as being off contract but the off contract players list on Fox Sports website (which is based off an official list) doesn't have him as being off contract.

Club won't refund $50 kit bond due to small tear in track pants so he's hanging on to it?

Wellington Phoenix agree to release Barbarouses from last year of contract

After much consideration Wellington Phoenix have consented to the release of Kosta Barbarouses.

Following a difficult twelve months off the field, the All White striker approached Phoenix management asking for a release for reasons not pertaining to football.

Wellington GM David Dome was initially disappointed but said that he understood Barbarouses’ position.

“It’s not a decision we have made lightly,” said Dome, “especially after the back end to the season that Kosta had.”

“But it’s never been our policy as a club to stand in the way of a player’s happiness, or the happiness of those dear to him, and as much as we could have dug our heels in, the best thing for all parties concerned is an amicable termination.

“Obviously it’s disappointing to lose a player of Kosta’s pedigree – he’s exactly the type of character we want to attract to this football club. But every door closing is a door opening and we remain confident the squad we are currently assembling will have Wellington very much in the mix for finals football.”

Kosta departs with the very best wishes of everyone at the football club, and Wellington Phoenix would like to place on record their gratitude for his professional attitude and demeanour both on and off the field and pay tribute to his work within the community.

For Barbarouses, it was a position reached after considerable reflection.

“Wellington Phoenix gave me my first start in professional football’, said Barbarouses, “there are so many people at this club that I am especially grateful to, and I guess that’s something that’s made this decision a lot harder.”

“People forget sometimes that there are more factors involved than just football. Behind every player are a lot of people making sacrifices – I’ve been fortunate to enjoy tremendous support, so sometimes you have to think about others and consider their needs.

“I came home wanting to win a championship for Wellington and New Zealand but obviously that hasn’t happened. It’s frustrating it hasn’t all come together for me at this time, but you never know what’s round the corner in football – maybe under better circumstances we still can.”

Kosta Barbarouses made 25 appearances and scored five goals in his second spell with the club, and had one year left to run on his two-year contract with Wellington Phoenix.

Nothing about Newcastle in that article, but are you insinuating that Ernie really does have a posse?

Welp, with just under half our starting XI out the door, we're gonna have to put our thinking caps on for new songs for their replacements! One benefit of this clear out are plenty of possible new chants to come I suppose.

Hah, your optimistic tone instantly brought the monty python song "always look on the bright side of life" to mind. I wonder if we could find a football variant for the fever to sing(h)!

According to the Nix Twitter account, we have 18 players contracted. There is 16 here, add in Fenton who must have triggered an extention. Who is the 18th? I had assumed it was A-Rod but he has left.

I wish the club would come out and officially say goodbye to these players, vinnie in particular, but i feel like players have been drifting off and the club isn't acknowledging the efforts they put in for the nix. Especially as the situation which has come about for some of them not having their contracts renewed has come down to the clubs planning. I think its pretty disappointing.

I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.
