i have joined 2 nix scarves together so now have a very long scarf that says wellington phoenix on both sides.
For the record, I did not actually mean that individual fans can individually make their own scarves. Although they can do that too.

What I actually meant is that we, the fans/supporters group can commission scarves to be manufactured to our specifications. We can order 3000 of them, say, to our own design. We do not have to just take the designs the A League, the club, or whoever decides which designs we get are going to be.

There's this thing called the interweb you see. And if we get organised, we can run our own design competition (perhaps?) and design our own Yellow Fever scarves, and then commision a run of them to be manufactured and delivered. I for one would be interested in pursuing this. We'd have to pre-order and be willing to stump up our cash in advance to make it work, but we could do it...

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

Now THAT is something which as a fan I would see as REAL value.

I have one of those Roar member scarves, out would be great if the nix did something similar.

I'm all for a Yellow Fever scarf, would happily make a design and chip in some money.

How about someone tells the A-League and Adidas to stop producing generic sh*t that no-one wants to buy?

PS. Awesome new track top this year Adidas - the first Phoenix clothing I've ever purchased (I was so impressed)

Definitely up for that idea - the last two scarf designs have been crap so I've kept with my 1st/2nd season Nix scarf ... it'd be great to have another option

My fave football scarf is the "white noise" one from the Bahrain game - fan-organised, good design and really good quality!

Haha, would be nice. I'm sure i could get underneath Bolton's skin.

At this stage we're not heading down, but there's been several discussions about it to date, so you never know!

I can help with this - I work for a menswear accessories company, we can make ties, scarves, cufflinks etc to order, you show us the design, we'll make it.

Will be minimums involved, of course.

Phoenix just need a fame

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/soccer-football/news/article.cfm?c_id=86&objectid=10781880

'If the Phoenix want to put the squeeze on the broadcasters for more revenue, there are a couple of problems. Let's face it - they are a boring side who maybe don't quite live up to Morgan's understandably skewed statement that "we're third in the league, we have an absolutely fabulous team".

To those of us weaned on English premiership football for many years, the action often seems pedestrian by comparison. That's not totally fair, of course, and it must be said that the A-League has improved a lot in a short time.

Added to a defensively-minded team is a coach, Ricki Herbert, who is so measured in thought and word that many of us nod off before he finishes his sentences.'"

who the hell is this Paul Lewis guy?

I liked where he says we should be more like the Melbourne Victory (without ever really explaining why - something about getting in a foreign manager?). He didn't mention them being probably the biggest spending team in the league, yet playing some awful football and being in 8th place.

Just the usual, bland, sneering drivel that we see from Kiwi Sports journos. I love how we must sign a "big named player" but he reckons the only thing Kiwi's know about football is the premiership. So by that logic we can only sign prem players?
It's lazy stuff again, condesending attitude towards Kiwi's. However these journos don't understand football or why people watch it or just have an axe to grind as per usual.
Nothing new, just sad that another journalist feels it's acceptable to churn out the same old rubbish without actually understanding what's going on.
Boring? 5-2 the jets anyone?

To be fair though, we're averaging 1.3 goals per game. One game scoring 5 means there has to have been a few fairly boring games.

Yeah but are over all attacking has improved no end as is our passing. We just don't have a regular goal scorer.

I just get a bit tired that we are always classed as "too boring and defensive" .

Because this is about our fans showing up and whether our team is entertaining (or boring and defensive), it should probably be noted that we average 1.9 goals a game at home (inc. Dunedin game). Our away average is just over 0.6 but in theory this should have less effect on our home crowds.

Yes and the only thing important are goals? I see where you are coming from to the casuals it's goals that are improtant, but there's more to football than just putting it away.

Fortean Times I don't disagree but for many casual punters GOALS are all they care about. The proverbial 0-0 draw is what puts many off football (sadly).

Just look at the predominant sport in NZ. You get rewarded for scoring 4+ which was instituted in part to add spectator value to the game.

So while I don't disagree, it is a fair point to throw into the mix.

Yeah, people raved about that 5-2 win for days and days. More goals often mean more chances too which can mean it's quite an open game so basically more goals = an all-round more entertaining game. Most nil all draws or 1-0 wins/losses aren't action packed and full of missed chances.

In summary goals generally are important in terms of entertainment, if you think about it that's the one time the whole crowd are up on their feet going mental.
