Crowds - The thread of Australian whining

Wow!  That is both encouraging (that the crowd was so big this early in the season) and sad (that it's been over two years to get these numbers).

Did anyone who purchased a ticket find that they had been allocated the seat of a season pass holder? I've heard a couple of different reports of this happening.

Great crowd.....funny in't. After all the talk about crowd numbers...how to get more people along, promotions, bouncy castles etc etc the bottom line is if your team is winning and its seen as a fun day out then lots moire people will come.

Really quite simple!!!!

Free kid entry, a perfect day weather-wise and people wanting to escape for a couple of hours before thinking about work again probably helped too.

I think that is the first time after we've had a good run of results, we've then had a nice day and good home crowd and not blown the game 0-5.

It'll be good to see how the extra punters follow through for future crowds, after such a good evening, good result, good crowd buzz, good YF effort.  Just a shame we have the month off.

I think from aisle 23 that tonight was the best ever crowd chant participation from outside the Fever zone.

Who was the chap who started up an "Ernie Merrick's Yellow Army" chant (between Aisles 22 & 23)?

Awesome work - he's done it a couple of times this season.

Back at work this morning and 2 different people have told me they are going to head along to the next Nix game after seeing how well we are doing. Then they were disappointed that the game was a month away... Hurt Rec will definitely be sold out! My boss even used the phrase "I might have to jump on this bandwagon"

The yellow army chant from asile 23 was from a guy that sits with us. Moved here from melbourne and used to be a Victory supporter. The two Canadian ladies in front of us had to cover thier ears :-)

Dome must be pulling his hair out - we finally crack 10k for the first time in 2 years; then we immediately have a 3 week break and will be playing at a ground that only holds 9000 for the next 3 home games!

True, although I guess break even at the Hutt Rec is probably less than the 10k?

But if we don't have a sell out then we won't be taking the games to Lower Hutt again. They'll have had their chance and we should then look at other places like Weka Park.

He was dancing from one foot to the other with glee on Sunday night - or maybe it was Monday morning by then...?

And why wouldn't he be?

19 points from 21.

Second on the table.

Most goals scored in the league.

Equal best defence in the league.

Best Goal difference in the league.

Golden boot race being lead by one of our not-a-strikers.

Crowds trending up and up.

Hutt Rec Games threatening to sell out.

Ernie talking about wanting to resign re-sign.

Honestly if we can't sing from the rooftops and enjoy this we are a miserable bunch of cods!

Cost of the temporary seating wont be cheap, a sell out might be break even at best. But having a 'clean' stadium will have its financial benefits, more advertising for the club to sell and no spotless running the food outlets.

Possibly not have beaten the keeper. Manny beat the keeper twice. Just missed the net the second time.

I quite like the idea of giving Auckland a game each season, then having a second game rotating between Christchurch, Napier, Hamilton to keep the novety factor for the smaller areas.

BTW how'd we only get a 10K crowd to that playoff game in 2011/12?

Probably because no-one expected us to win?

Friday Night and pretty short turn around from when we qualified IIRC

Yeah you're right. 8pm kick off on a Friday. What a mud time slot.

You can bet your ass we will get hung with one of those again if we get a home qualifier.

Do the FFA still get the gate for finals games? Or has that changed?

If they still get the gate, and if the Nix current form continues, and if crowds keep building, why would the FFA not want to maximise the crowd?

If Westpac can be filled, and the FFA get the revenue for it, you might find they want that.

Perhaps. But back then there were three playoff games in a weekend. one on each day. Now there are two. although having said that, there has been a Friday game in each of the last two years. Not sure 6pm KO AET is a great time for viewers though.

The cost of the seating will be spread over the three games though effectively reducing the cost per game

There was some unresolved discussion on a podcast 2-3 weeks ago. I thought in the early part of the leagues existence the FFA took the game but then it changed..... I think if the FFA took control of the whole thing and had to front for the costs etc, then great sure, take the gate but if the Phoenix have to pay that and get no gate then FFA should F right off.

Personally, I think the club should get the gate because its a bit of cream on top (assuming you get a good crowd and make a profit) that was not expected and a reward for making the playoffs. If the FFA want the gate for the GF then fair enough as they have to arrange all of that and cover it too.

Grumpy old bastard alert

From memory didn't they change the gate-takings policy since we were last in the playoffs? I think we would get some or all of it now?

I'm sure I read not long after after our last play-off that they had now changed it.
