a tactical subsitution to see out the win for the team is more important than someone's personal milestone

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite

So happy Daniel made a difference in those 90 seconds of his 100th game.

This. It used up valuable time and reduced further risk of injury to our Paul.

Bloody ref added an extra 70 seconds on top of the 4 minutes, so no valuable time used up.

I would say - first 11 at a world cup: No.

Qualifiers, friendlies, injuries, lack of european-based players: Yes.

In other words, prettymuch the same role he plays at the nix.

Doesn't matter, a sub breaks up play and the chasing team has to redouble it;'s efforts.

Good move by Ricki.

damn Frankie, I'm forced to agree with you

imagine the riot if a tired iffy had given away possession and they had scored

daniel gave us more energy - 3 points way more important than 100 apps

we can still sing for Daniel next wknd

I didn't consider the clock aspects of the substitution so fair play.

1-0 up in stoppage time - if you don't clear your bench you've failed your coaching badge.

(I wouldn't know actually as I haven't done a coaching course. I'd like to say they taught us that at the refs course, but they didn't)

Hmm, I always found these late substitutions a silly move. It doesn't really save time since referees will add further time for the sub regardless of the time when it was made, and the sub presents as much danger for your own team as you're putting on a player who's not in the flow of the game for a minute or two where he can't pace himself into the game, and any mistake can be very costly.

The bottom line is, if your players do a good job for you for 93 minutes, they can do it for one more minute, especially since there is little to nothing to be gained from making a sub that late.

They add 30 seconds on for each substitution and yellow card during regular time, plus time for significant injury breaks and other disturbances to the game.

I assume that the time the referee ads on for substitutions in time added on works the same way. i.e. they add 30 seconds. So you can use it to use up time, if you can make it take longer than 30 seconds, which you can do by various ways, not the least of which includes making sure the player to be substituted is hanging around near one of the far corners of the ground and walks/shuffles slowly to the half way line and the new player makes sure they don't break early and waits until the player coming off gets RIGHT to the side line, and then they have an exagerated, well played/good luck out there mate embrace...

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Its also a minimum time to be played. i.e. if the 4th shows 3 on the board, its a minimum 3 mins, it could well be 3:17 or 3:54 not a hard and fast 3.

The referee is then within his rights to book both players for delaying the restart of the game. Is it really worth it risking two yellow cards to kill 15 seconds off the clock?

I am not arguing it is not without risk or possible adverse consequences. I was just rebutting the assertion that "it doesn't really save time". It can. It might not, but it can.

Btw., I absolutely agree with your statement:

The bottom line is, if your players do a good job for you for 93 minutes, they can do it for one more minute,

Fair enough. It's just one of the things I never quite understood as an observer, yet it happens a lot of the time at all levels of the game.

Two garden stakes (1.8 metres long - green plastic, light wieght and strong) and 4 cable ties later and I have two of the three Brazilian flags from the Embassy ready to go as per:

The third one might be kept loose to be waved by two people holding each end and leaning forwards over the front rail I think. More Brazilian flags are on the way.

Who has organised a Brazilian flag?

PM me so I can liaise with the club as to how many are coming. We need to get them through the gates, so need to set up when and where flag carriers need to be so that the Red badge Nazis will let us through.

Placemakers, green plastic garden stakes, 1.8m x 16mm make excellent flag poles if you don't have one... plus one or two cable ties depending on whether your flag's hoist pocket is open or stitched shut.

I will be leaving the Back Bencher at 3.45pm. People with Brazilian flags either:

( a ) meet me at the Back Bencher in time to depart at 3.45pm

OR

( b ) Meet me at the Fran Wilde Walk Sign just before the turnstiles at 4.00pm at the very latest.

There will be a presentation to daniel at 4.20pm and we need to be in position at the front of the Fever Zone by 4.15pm.
