Big ad in today's local rag ODT. With 7000 sold we should be in for 10,000 at least I hope! Especially if we get a strong walkup with the weather forecast remaining firmly YELLOW!

Via 442 - is this accurate?

"Bahrain defender Sayen Mohamed Adnan has signed a one-year deal with Roar and is likely to make the trip to Dunedin."

Good on that Mr Cresswell.

Since the scarfies burn couches at Carisbrook, surely flares will be allowed for this match?

Adnan sounds like he has had a rough time since 14 Nov 2009.  Good on FIFA for stepping in.

I can't believe it. Why on earth would a bunch of good, honest kiwis want to give up an afternoon of coalface football just to go and watch a bunch of Aussies??? I'll bet Southland Football are even directly funding the Phoenix at the expense of the NZFC. What a disgrace!!!

Bet you the walk up crowd would have gone to that game if the Nix weren't in town.

Just the walk-up? That Dunedin Tech v Caversham game would have got 10,000 if it wasn't for the Phoenix.

Poor man's coverage (happening in the J82 household):

1.  Tune into Piney on NewstalkZB
2.  Turn on PS2 FIFA 10 and play Nix vs Roar with the mute button on.

3.  Throw a plastic bottle at the screen and get ejected from the living room.

Knuckle bones. That's what you need for predictions. Worked in ancient times, so I was told
So I thought about Ange the possum, who's been eating my olive bushes for two years, devious little sh*te. Possums have knuckles, so it seemed like a nice bit of serendipity. I laid in wait for three nights with my trusty 0.22, and I popped him! His mate, Marco, scarpered. I think I heard him sobbing as he legged it. Anyway, Ange made a decent curry (thanks to No.2 son, The Beard. Culinary tip- go easy on the cumin seeds. You're welcome). So I ended up with a set of possum knuckle bones to roll. And roll I did....

So here we go, the first of the season.

Lights fade, the NZ dollar wobbles, Terry wins Lotto, Keith Richards gets detoxed etc., etc........

THE Prediction.

Drum Roll..........

The Mighty Phoenix 2          The Other Lot  1

This is going to be our best season ever! Look what we've been through, and we're still here!

Remember-

We are the Mighty Phoenix. We can beat anyone!
(Ask the Boca Juniors)

Small caveat- if we don't win, blame Ange........

Nostalgia isnt what it used to be...........

So is this where we have a sweepstake on crowd attendance?

A Night with Ricki Herbert and the Wellington Phoenix - MATCH REPORT

Thanks to the awesome team at Forsyth Barr Stadium I was invited to a special night with Ricki Herbert and the 'Nix tonight.

After what felt like an eternity Ricki made his entry and those in attendance first heard someone from stadium management talk about the fantastic new venue and how it had repelled the freak weather elements this week despite rumours the stadium roof was leaking (it was all a cunning plan - nothing went wrong).

He said that at the end of the day you still need 2 teams and a ball for a match, and while the Turbos were unable to make it down, he was grateful that the Roar were here or else we'd be left again without a 2nd team.

Next local radio broadcaster Steve Davie talked about the rise of football and the Phoenix in New Zealand, and acknowledged the awesome support that the Phoenix have had in the form of YELLOW FEVER

He invited the audience to join the Fever in the Zone on Saturday, warning them of the requirement to stand for the entire game   He also invited attendees along to the Otago Cricket Longroom to join the Fever for drinkies - from 1pm (cue laughter from the audience ).

Next Ricki Herbert spoke, and he talked of the marrrvellous venue that is Forsyth Barr Stadium. He thought the ticket sales were fantastic. He acknowledged the support of YELLOW FEVER and thanked the few Feverites present for turning up.

The formalities ended with Steve Davie reminding people about the YELLOW FEVER function at the Longroom, and the players then entered and mingled with the audience.

I lobbied Ricki to bring more games down to Dunedin and otagofan said he should get one of the All White qualifiers down here. Ricki (and the players) are GENUINELY amazed at the venue and while it's not saying much Ricki did pretty much say that Dunedin >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>North Harbour.

Ricki said good job on the banner I made too

All in all an awesome and very successful night!

To add to what Ahmad said, Ricki in no uncertain terms said North harbour is an awful venue for watching football. He also said that if we get a good crowd for Saturday we become very hard to ignore in the allocation of regular season matches and All Whites qualifiers. With regard to the season, he was optimistic and the team is where he'd expect it to be a month and a half out.

Steve Davie gave a very good endorsement to the Yellow Fever.

Ahmad got alot of positive feedback from attendees as a Fever rep and the banner is one of his best.

With all due respect, NHS is not an awful venue for watching football - it is one of few decent rectangle venues this country has got. It's just in difficult place for most Aucklanders to get to. Forsyth Barr does look a better venue ,of course, and I'm really looking forward to checking out for myself! Bring on Saturday!

AWs I could live with (alternate games between Wgtn - the home of football- and other parts of NZ or Greater Wgtn as it should be called).

However while it's great to see you Southerners out in force, it is the Wellington Nix (not the Greater Wgtn Nix).
