probably the kind we use i New Zealand, then again it could well be the kind with an eagle on it that comes in green

Money? What kind of team do you think we are?
He was promised Wellingtonian Of The Year and a speaking role in Peter Jackson's next Oscar winning movie (though working a black guy into a fantasy movie could be tricky)

Don't worry. He will be blown away by the glory of Wellington.

lets hope he fits in quickly and makes a difference at the attaking end of the field. Bit confused as to why we've brought in another attacking midfielder - who will he replace?

Queenslander 3x a year.

Our current attacking midfield isn't really working at the moment. One pre-season game aside, the "Holy Trinity" just hasn't worked (I'm not even sure if they've all played for a substantial length of time since then)

I'm thinking he'll just replace Gao, but we'll have to wait till Sunday and see.yomcat2008-11-17 11:57:39

I'm hoping tv pick up on it now he's here. I'll be glued to the news to watch all the reports. Go Gourdie!!

With positive stuff like this, the Sydney performance and hopefully the sh*t weather out of the way, it'll bring back the decent crowds

3 days later and it hasn't been mentioned once in the Herald yet

To be fair they have had write-ups about the Womens U17 world cup and other football articles, but I would have thought it was worth a footnotehepatitis2008-11-17 14:54:55

do we think Fred will start this week or will he replace one of the bench riders - say Kwasnik?? and then come on for Gao.

Queenslander 3x a year.

I hate DCU but this is a good pick up. He's a very solid player down there for united, he had a kinda mediocre year but he's still a nice get.

What do you reckon his best position is?
Link-up between Mid and attack, but seems to cover the park well. Of course haven't seen him out of youtube since a few of the Melbs games I watched in v2, so CrewUltra or any other MLS fans would have a more recent view. As someone mentioned earlier all the DC clips of him seem to show him drifting in from the left much like Ronaldinho likes to do.

Quite right, we only played DC twice this season but he played left mid both times. He really doesn't blaze by people but he's got solid foot skills and has good vision. Fortunately for my Crew we were able to shut him and DC town both times. But like I said before DC was very anemic all year long, despite somehow stumbling into the US Open Cup.

If Herbert starts him on the bench and brings him on in that all important 79th minute when you're 2 down, will there be repercussions?

I'd say yes.

I think he should get the most of all the 6games. Otherwise why did we use a spot for a guest player? I mean, in 6 weeks he'll have to bugger off to the States again, so if I were Ricky I'd start him every game, to give him a chance. If he doesn't do well, and according to the game, I'd think about bringing in Gao, Brown, whoever we need at that time.

Having said that, I think that Terry's and Tony P's timing is absolutely PERFECT. what a better moment to bring in the big guns, than  after Smeltzy announce his departure and we are finally 6th on the ladder, with the chance to beat the Jets and improve our position (given that Qland lose)?!

Yes, also good timing with 4 of the next 6 games at home and pre-Xmas. Hopefully, the crowd numbers will increase.

Stefan saw the crew waiting for him at the airport when he came in today, Fredmania is now in town. Wongky and NZpower, you're completely right, timing is brilliant.

did he train today

If he arrived form the States just today then I'd say he probably didn't do much. But there is a huge chance I'm wrong as I wasn't at the training ground today.

Pretty irrelevant this really but what number will he be?

Surely he'll play AM:

-----------Smeltz
Winger----Fred----Winger
-----McKain---Brown

Take your pick out wide from Bertos, Daniel and Hearfield, since Gao seems to be out of the equation

Also because it was reported as such in the Melbourne Age today and they quoted the comments of fans from their forum

Phoenix owner Terry Serepisos described the signing as a coup and when
asked if he would be trying to sign the player for longer replied:
"Absolutely. But that's something we will talk about later."

Interesting sounds like hes willing to put money into Fred.
