Bit of a shambles most weeks
Started listening to the 'Out of our A-League's podcast recently. Not as good as In the Zone but not a bad listen.

With Chch and real life we're having wnough challenges getting Friday together.
Once the Mexico games end, some more ASBP chat would be good, if time allows.

You read the 2 page Steven Holloway spread in today's Herald, N Bomb?
"At the end of the drive the lawmen arrive...
I'll take my chance because luck is on my side or something...
Her name is Rio, she don't need to understand...
Oh Rio, Rio, hear them shout across the land..."

Wot u think? Ivan Vuk confirmed what Bluemagic's been banging on about for yonks. Guy Smith making his Welly-based point as expected. But Rex Dawkins' input was I thought interesting. Kinda backs up what I posted on the WaiBOP thread earlier, the idea of clubs being 'stronger' than franchises as a longterm option.

I think the first point "any of the top three teams in New Zealand football's national league would be competitive with professional clubs in the bottom half of the A-League table." is slightly exaggerated on Vuksich's behalf, sure Auckland could, and Waitak when competitive, but that's it.
I haven't been around football long enough (aka I'm not old enough) to have a strong opinion on clubs v franchises, but in terms of club support it would help, but there would be some legitimate logistical problems. I do think there should be some criteria in terms of funding/salaries allowed to be paid to allow a competitive balance for once - but then Auckland's quality of football would be diluted. So it's tough to say "this is what should happen, without a doubt" - although that won't stop some people
The article across the board is well done from Holloway the younger.
I think all points of view are valid. As Ivan says 'It costs us money to get to CWC to pay out the others'. Hard to see where he is coming from when the Trillion fork across a billion to them but perhaps he forgets that those figures are public so while it might be true, its hard to feel sorry.
Without looking like a kiss ass, the point that Smithy makes is probably the most valid but its a wider issue. The reality is and has been mentioned a few times, Waitakere play at a paddock. Now back to the start of the league, there were standards, but no one enforced them and we get to situations where Dunedin played at Tahuna and Sunnyvale. ACFC did the right thing and got a stand there and added on to Kiwitea St. Great. What have other teams done? With the probable exception of HBU who have remained constant and CU who got a playing surface upgrade, they have all gone backwards. Facilities alone wont attract punters but good governance is a start to give it some credibility.
The reality is, that this competition started as well meaning but the governance from Glyn 'Dunkin' Donuts' Taylor was a shambles and fell away very quickly. Now we are in the situation we are in.
I think the best solution, is not so much to start the league again (because we will forever be doing that) but advise that the league starting in 2 years time will operate to these set of standards and they are not negotiable. If you can't reach them, relinquish as there are other areas that would like a franchise.

That seems to be forgotten (the amount of imports)

There is a criteria for salaries allowed to be paid - it's an amateur league, they're not allowed to be paid at all.
Allegedly
When's the next pod out?
Not meaning to hassle you or nuffink. Believe it or not I have actually started looking forward to these!

Recording after work. But I've got a dinner to go to afterward so won't get a chance to edit until later tonight.
Dinner over yet?

The pod brings you the most comprehensive review of the All Whites' 5-1 loss to Mexico by asking who or what is to blame, and did we even have a chance? Elsewhere, the Phoenix's opening to the 2013/14 continues to struggle with another away-home draw, while Team Wellington open their ASBP campaign with a 4-1 loss to Auckland City

I want him to get the job. I think he would be good at it so I am not saying 'he is not an option' for the sake of it. I just happen to have some skinny that I could name a source on in about 2 weeks.
What I was meaning is that I could tell you the name of the person who told me the above information about Emblen to verify that the information was good, but not for a couple of weeks. (i.e. name the source of the Emblen information). Not that I had a name for a coach that they were going to announce in two weeks.
Apologies for that.

I think the mix of those 5 is pretty good. Trade off the studio time for Piney being a permanent member?

It interesting that everybody has Tuiloma noted as a RB only when OM are training him as a DM. Was surprised his name didnt come up during that conversation.
