Why is the Phoenix reserve side situation to taboo for a Pod-cast chat?. You guys have been avoiding it like the plague. 108 speaks about our squad and how thin it is, But avoided why it is that way.

Step up and flop it out for 109. (plz)

Happy to have that argument cos I don't think having a youth team makes fk all difference. Window dressing. Having a decent squad is independent.

Wow...what a cheery bunch the Pod were this week!

They are probably reflecting the general malaise inflicting all Nix supporters at the moment.  Looking back to a year ago whats different to now?....SFA. We are once again at the bottom of the table  and NZF is still a clusterf**k. I feel I have just wasted 12 months of my footballing life.

Clutching at any positives at least the Nix played some really lovely football this season and I think we have the right coach. Everything else is up for debate

This is the best time for the 12th man to step up not put the boot in. #wgtnNIX4eva

Blew if you give me the positive points to take away from this season, I'll be happy to pitch them for discussion on the next pod?

Honestly though, apart from Ernie I can't think of any.

Riera? But yeah that'd be about it for me. Ernie & Riera, the rest is POO.
My only other positive is finding out that my 4 & 5 year old nieces really want to come to the Phoenix, so will be attending their first game this weekend (Should I get them each a wooden spoon to wave?).

Away wins - Some great wins (but not backed up) - a good run early 2014 - Some signs of player development.

When discussing the upcoming game that determines whether we come last or not, its natural for the tone to be a bit negative. It'd be bloody weird to be all upbeat and positive about it. It's hardly sticking the boot into the team, it's not like they're speaking to anyone on the team directly, and come Saturday evening they'll be cheering the team on like everyone else.

The development of Boyd is another major positive.

I'll probably get shot down (meh) but for me, the form of Lia alongside Riera was a plus also. Showed me that he can play an effective role in the right set-up, with the right players alongside him.

Also, Tyler Boyd continuing to improve and looking more assured and confident, Ernie's attitude, and the emergence of some new talent that will provide us some depth in years to come - particularly Hicks and Ridenton (depth does not mean they should be starting every week by the way kids). Hopefully a fit Louie Fenton will enhance this next season.

And lastly, Fritz's Weinerisms.

Could the week in, week out consistent quality of Fritz Wieners would be a positive for this year?

My question.  If we had played Ridenton or someone else (El Grap?) next to Riera would they have looked just as good and MUCH cheaper?

This, I thought Lia looked better in that period as well, but if it had been someone else would it have been the same, or did Lia just have a special something. Leaning towards any one could've looked good in that role.

Has Boyd really improved all that much? Yes  he has improved and went through about a three game purple patch but aside from that, whilst he has shown some improvement, it has not been stellar

Watch his off the ball antics and he's really improved. He's been dragging defenders all over the show.

Coulda/woulda/shoulda HN... who knows - in their first year and if it was a kid I would doubt it, though of course the improvement and upside would have been far greater. And as it was, Ridenton and Hicks got plenty opportunity anyway - though of course we all wish it was alongside a Spaniard rather than a West Islander.

Hopefully this time next year we'll have an answer.

Two years on and #InTheZone V107 is out at www.yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts.

The pod turns two, and in true toddler style, gets angsty at another home loss by Wellington Phoenix FC, before looking towards the prospect of two EPL sides coming to Wellington. And local football kicks off this weekend in the capital.

You call that angst?  Must try harder ;-)

That was a bit more like it!

I think Ernie has slightly gotten off scot free (see what I did there) as well.  He's kept on with this very attacking game in the last 5 weeks when we've been continuously pounded.  I know he was chasing the playoffs and you could argue we still had most of our attack fit so focus on scoring more might have helped but I do think he should have re-set and tried to make us a bit tougher to beat after the Heart home game.

#InTheZone V109 is out at yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts.

Paul Ifill continues to add to his media CV by coming off the pod bench as they discuss Wellington Phoenix's disappointing end to the season, before farewelling Stein Huysegems and Leo Bertos. In New Zealand football land, the All Whites host South Africa next month, but who will turn up, Auckland City advance to the semi-finals of the O-league thanks to a Waitakere choke, Chatham Cup qualification begins, and the local leagues in Wellington ramp up.

Apparently you're so popular that you've reached your podomatic bandwidth limit for the month.

Or someone forgot to pay the bills.

Or my phone is being weird.

Or that is the shortest pod ever at 23 seconds, and smithy has a terrible cold.

I have to take issue with this a little JD. A collective 'We' whinged about the lack of attacking game we had under Ricki and that we were not attacking minded enough. Now its the other way and you are having a crack? I get that there are times we are playing the wrong game plan and that happened (again) against the Victory early on but I would rather see positive attacking football when we are getting ass raped than dour defensive football for the sake of conceding less. That's exactly what Ricki did. Granted the strategy was not very successful shipping an average of 3 goals in our last 10 games but Jesus.... I think Smithy was the only one that called it 5 weeks out saying he did not think we would win another game and playoffs were gone. It was a big call but it was correct. Knowing that now, would you rather he just defended and kicked long or tried to have a crack? Yeah the execution sucked but its better than the shit we served last year playing the way you just advocated.

I get called negative but I don't think I deserve that tag if you are going to post that above because all that sounds like is Steve-O and his 'I'm never happy' stance.

To be fair. He has a right not to be happy after a season like that. And equally had a right to be unhappy after last season.

I'm just less unhappy than I was at the end of last season. And am more hopeful about next season than I was at the end of last season about this season.

No I get that Tegal. I am not saying he does not have the right to be unhappy about it at all. Its those who were like 'this is shit, we are too defensive, sack Ricki'. Now its 'This is shit, we are too attacking, put the microscope on Ernie'
