#InTheZone 149 is out at yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts.

Ernie Merrick joins the pod for an extended chat about the Phoenix, the A-league, his coaching, and fighting Kevin Muscat. Elsewhere, the Football Ferns continue their World Cup preparation, and it's a Wellington logjam at the top of the ASB Premiership.

Brilliant work as always chaps , so good I'm even going to say: Best pod ever! Just edges out Paul Ifill "play myself" podcast. Loved the insight Ernie gave about all the behind the scenes stuff and delighted to hear that he's keen to sign Siggy up for another year :)

Would you prefer to sign a Scottish player or an English player if given only those choices?

With the current Asian Cup going on, who stands out thus far to you?

You once commented that you saw how differently the Phoenix are treated by match officials as to say the Victory. Has this gotten any better or is it still like we here already know from your point of view?

Fudge. The question in bold did not make it into my rundown sheet!

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

A lot of what Ernie talked about was about developing long term systems and processes. It sounds to me that he is really invested. That's great news. I really want his contract extension announcement now.

The real comedy moment in Southern v WaiBOP was Victor Da Costa getting floored by the ref and then giving him a surprise hug. Also the winning goal was ridiculously well hit.

I like Vinnie. I just don't like his friends. Give the ball away Vinnie, needless yellow card Vinnie, and Evil Vinnie: Revenge of the Vinnie.

He's been pretty good this season, for reals.

Also, Ernie is amazeballs.

I like tautologies because I like them.

His other friend I don't like is left for dead trying to track Vinnie.

But I get it that with good players around him providing options and Riera behind him, Vince's weaknesses aren't exposed much and he adds leadership and communication and some solidity and experience, particularly with the number of young players around him.  Great insights from Ernie on why he values him.  That backed up a similar story I'd heard from near to the camp.  And I am sure a thoroughly decent team mate.

I might need to back down on my comment that we'll never win the League with Vinnie starting.  But that's a might ... :)  So long as Vinnies team mates keep Vinnies friends away.

Also, Ernie is amazeballs.  Absolute professional, hard working, decent bloke, good communicator, nice sense of humour and a modest guy.

I loved the comments about making the club a place that players want to come to, to develop their football, and his clear focus on bringing kiwi development players through.

The club is in good hands.  Sign him now.

And great pod again guys.  I don't get to hear all of them, but they are brill.  Thanks.

What's the source? Surely it's a Phoenix fan wiki edit or something?

Ernie said it on the pod. Could have been that dry sense of humour though

Looking on the FoxesTalk forums, there was a Sky News alert saying

"Sky Sources tell us Mexican youth international Roberto Carlos Alvarado Hernandez is currently training at Leicester City. We understand there is also strong interest from a number of other Premier League clubs in the 17-year-old."

Ernie making a joke surely?

Our Carlos looks to have signed for Dempo SC in the I-League on the 10th Dec 2014

If Burns goes will he think about returning as backup striker. He sits on the bench anyway so why not?
